Today’s egg cup theme: Geese.
I can’t remember where I got the first goose, who is pulling an egg cup – I think I found it online. The second goose was a find in a local antique shop. In perfect condition, it’s a vintage cup from France.
The weather has been warm here – temp is reaching 74 today! That’s only for a day, and it will drop back down to normal temps tomorrow. It’s foggy and rainy.
We had a lovely time with Rick and Doug and Sam. Great conversation, lots of play with Sam, and great french toast to boot.
I have yet to answer your comments from yesterday! It ended up being a fairly busy day and I was going on very little sleep, so I just sort of collapsed when I got home. But I will, as soon as I hit publish.
There’s not much else new…sometimes I wonder if I should take the occasional day off because I don’t want to bore you. I know you’ve all said that’s just fine by you, but I have a hard time doing that. Partly because I like the discipline of writing every day, partly because I know you look for my Β posts, and even though it’s okay, I know you’ll wonder if all is okay with me. Tricky. But after 11 years of blogging, sometimes I just don’t have anything to say! And we’re not in an exciting time here at the cottage; we’re basically just hanging out here. Neither of us is working. No big, potentially exciting things are scheduled. It’s just Don and me, hanging out, running errands, reading, listening to music, making dinner, washing dishes, cleaning, and watching an old movie or two.
Soon, I’ll begin to work outside and that will change things up a bit.
Anyway, I’m rambling. It’s simply something I think about from time to time, but then I start writing about whether I should take a day off, gradually adding more and more thoughts, and then suddenly, I have a post.
Sigh.
Happy Monday.
Cathy S. says
I love your everyday posts and it doesn’t matter if they are long or short. On the rare occasion you miss a day, I wonder if everything is ok with you and Don so please continue with your daily posts. Thanks
Claudia says
Thank you, Cathy!

Don’t stop ! I enjoy each and every post. I love your cottage and I agree with you politically. I wish I could follow you on instagram…but it won’t let me!! Have a blessed day.
Claudia says
Why won’t it let you? Just curious!
Shanna says
I think you have to have an IG account to “follow”. But you can see posts without having an account by clicking on someone’s blog ( like yours) who show instagram posts. Maybe that’s what’s happening.
Claudia says
That’s what I thought. That’s why I have the widget on the sidebar, so you can see the posts.
Betsy says
I look forward to your posts short or long because you provide me with a respite from my “panini” life just for a minute or two.
Thank you! My husband and I plan on having an easy going life like you and Don someday . <3
Betsy
P.S. I am the middle of the panini squished between elderly parents, grandchildren, work demands and chores. Every day is a good day!
Claudia says
I understand! That’s a lot to be squished between!
kathy in iowa says
hi, claudia!
i hope you post as you want, when you want. will miss you on days you don’t post, but we’ll adjust.
and please don’t ever think your posts are boring! you may consider this to be a not-very-exciting time in your lives, but your posts are a way for you to express yourself and for us to get to know someone (you and 99.99% of the commenters) who is very kind, creative, charming … and i like that (plus life is like that … with ups, downs and in-betweens). i would say your posts are like my favorite kinds of movies and books … driven by characters and character, not calamities and cgi-special effects. everyday life and people are the special effects to me.
thanks for all you share and for taking all the time to write and upload photos.
happy monday!

Thank you so much for your kind words, Kathy!

I dream about a life such as yours. I’m between retirement age and croaking and am still changing diapers everyday and dealing with messes. Your posts give me a chance to live in the house I would love as a little vacation in my head. For me you do a good deed every time you write
Claudia says
Oh, I’m glad I help in some way, Jan. Thank you.
Janet in Rochester says
I think you should post whenever you want to, Claudia. Every day or whenever you specifically have something to show or say. And if you really want to post every day but sometimes find yourself a bit stumped on the writing end of it, what about photos-only posts? Photography is a definite strength of yours and as we all know, a picture’s worth a 1000 words. Why not take advantage of this occasionally? And let your photos do the talking for you…. Have a pleasant Monday! π·

Good suggestion, Janet! Thank you!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Actually, the normal every-day things are probably what about 95% of us do every day. No real drama, little chaos, celebration when the various birds return to our yards, clap with joy when we see the grass greening and plants emerging. So, it is nice to know we are all just plugging along. Sometimes on social media, it looks like everyone but us are having magical mystical experiences every single minute of every single day with perfect families and perfect everything. When you talk about running errands, walking through the yard, cleaning the front porch, working on your dollhouse projects ~ well, it is an assurance and reminder that regular life is pretty darn good!!!! (But I do confess to worrying a bit when I don’t get my regular email post!)
Claudia says
Social media can definitely make you think your life is unexciting! Thanks so much, Chris!
Donnamae says
We are traveling the highways and byways of Wisconsin these last few days with friends. Fun trip so far…lots to see. I love how youβve been grouping your egg cups
Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Have fun on your trip, Donnamae! Thanks so much.
Brenda says
Your blog is one of my favorites which I love love! You are on target with your postings! Post when you can!
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Brenda!
Jane Krovetz, NC says
Yes – Post when you can! I read every day. It is wonderful to live vicariously through you and Don. Your posts have gotten me back into photography and have helped me get back to work on my dollhouse. I even like your political posts – I was beginning to think my husband and I were the only ones who felt the way you do about that man ( I donβt even capitalize itπ). Your home is lovely. Your collections are beautiful!
Claudia says
Oh, you are not the only ones who feel that way! You have many kindred spirits out here! Thanks so much, Jane!
Kelly says
And a wonderful post it is! Our weather is similar to yours, nice and warm enough to get some work done in the front flower beds. The only thing I have purchased so far to add is a couple pansies. Only about a half dozen survived the winter and I was needing some color in the containers, I planted them and they haven’t done much, actually I think the overwintered ones have caught up to them. But the spring bulbs and Cherry trees are really putting on a lovely show.
I love Spring!
Claudia says
It’s too wet out there to do any work today, even though it’s warm outside. I’m getting ready to buy some pansies, Kelly!
Wendy T says
Claudia, I love reading your daily posts, but you don’t have to post every day, if YOU don’t want to. Even with an “I don’t have anything to tell” post, you still receive comments that I enjoy reading. I know you occasionally throw out a question to us, so if you find that you are short of material, shout out a question. Haha, your commenters will create a post with their responses!
Claudia says
Sometimes I just can’t think of a question, Wendy! Thanks.
Carol Jones says
Hi Claudia- This is my first time leaving a comment although I have been following your blog for about a year. I enjoy your blog for many reasons – one of which is the daily updates. As an avid reader, I first found you through your old book review blog! I so enjoy your insights into the world of theater. We are about the same age – I believe our birthdays are about a week apart – and I also live in an older home in the Northeast that is surrounded by woods. Your thoughts concerning what is going on in our country are spot on and what you have to say often helps me to take a breath and move beyond times of despair. All this to say, thank you for sharing your thoughts and keep posting daily if you are able!
Claudia says
Oh, thank you so much for your kind words, Carol.
Are you a Scorpio or a Sagittarius?
Carol Jones says
Scorpio! :)
Claudia says
Me too!
Leslie says
I congratulate you for your daily discipline, and for responding to almost every comment. As for topics, consider Proust, consider Seinfeld. Do not underestimate the value of small moments shared.
Claudia says
Ah, wise words, Leslie. Thank you!
Kay says
As others have commented, you blog about life and, for most of us, about 95 per cent of it isn’t typically what we think of as particularly exciting. But its your life and we enjoy reading about what you want to share. That said, you don’t have to do a long post every day. I also like following your photography on IG and sometimes catch that when I don’t have time to read the blog. But do whatever works for you.
In my exciting life, today I opened a window for the first time since can’t remember when. 69 right now but will be colder the rest of the week. So, the cat and I are living for today and enjoying it. I may even sit out on the porch this afternoon and knit. The 7, 4, and 2 year old brothers across the street are mighty entertaining.
Claudia says
Our windows are open today, as well! Isn’t it wonderful? Hope you’re on the porch as I write this, Kay!
KarenL says
Post when you want to – if that is everyday so be it – we’ll still be coming to the blog to see what is up. If it’s not everyday that works too – it’s your blog and your the boss. I’m only about 2 hours east of you and it is only 43 degrees today – send that warmer weather my way please!
Claudia says
It’s coming, I hope! Hang in there, Karen!
Olivia says
Things you write that you think are boring may be just what some one needs that day. One day you showed a French match striker you bought in France. It was in one of your pictures the other day. I have a friend who lights candles. For Christmas I bought her a ceramic match striker from a local artists. Guess where I got the idea? She uses it everyday and loves the uniqueness. She had never seen one before nor I. I also watched my first mini series on public broadcasting. It was Mrs. Wilson. Three parts and I loved each episode. You often mention something you have watched. Never think your blog is boring. You never know what will click or strike a thought with some one. Some days on your blog you use a word I never heard before. I always google it and find out the meaning. Your choice, but I like your blog everyday.
Claudia says
Thank you, Olivia. That means a great deal to me.
Vicki says
Well, you’re kinda like me and my husband; kinda retired; more retired than not now. It’s an adjustment. And it’s amazing how you can fill up the day even though you never have the more structured work schedule of the paying jobs, right?
Claudia says
Yes. My paying jobs often got in the way of the things I wanted to get done on any given day!
Linda @ A La Carte says
I love to see you post everyday because it’s like having a chat with my BFF! But if you need to skip days well that is just fine for sure. I got out and about today but it exhausted me. I think the cold is finally going away but it is taking it’s time for sure. Hugs!
Claudia says
It sounds like what Don and I had. Hung on forever! I hope each day brings more and more energy!
Tana says
I do love your ramblings. Maybe we can think of things we would love to hear you talk about. I would love to hear about that trail you and Don walk on once in awhile. Your hills look so beautiful.
I have a small collection of egg cups. So much fun going into an antique shop and finding one. And one is usually not too hard on the purse. Nice thing to think about at Easter time. Now I am smocking small pieces of fabric to put around styrofoam eggs and I put a bowl, or basket, of them out for Easter. Since I make some every year, I might have to put out two bowls this year. A couple of them I hang on the nobs on the china cabinet. You two have a great week.
Claudia says
The trail walk is pretty non-photogenic at the moment, Tana. I’ll take photos when the trees start leafing out!
Margie Mccarthy says
Claudia, your life and musings are always of interest to me!, …but please set your own pace for posting. I find it so refreshing to read about the simple, lovely aspects of your life with Don. Your writing is refined but not ostentatious and your blog reflects the joy you find in the everyday aspects of living. Please donβt ever think what you write is boring or mundane. I love every post…all your pictures…the dollhouse developments and updates about your home (the Church Bench!!!!) and garden.
Thank you. M.
Claudia says
Thank you so much for your kind words, Margie!
Kay Nickel says
Take time off if you need to. However, I very much look forward to your posts.
Claudia says
Thank you, Kay!
Nancy Blue Moon says
Well now Claudia!! I don’t think that I can say anything better than all of these sweet ladies have done already!…Just know that I love visiting you and Don no matter if it is every day or whatever days you post…also I am so looking forward to you getting outside and back to your flowers!
Claudia says
Oh, so am I!! Thanks, Nancy.

The geese cup is so sweet! I love geese (except on my beach!)
I don’t know how you manage to write every single day. I sure can’t. I aim for three times a week and hope that works. So I bow down to you and while I’d miss you if you were gone, I can’t always keep up every day so I play catch-up later! I hate to miss a post. I leave here energized or feeling creative or learning something! My happy.
