It’s the third work day of the week and it already feels like a month. Peace and calm today, please.
I brought the easel downstairs yesterday, along with my oil paints and supplies. Everything is ready to go.
Someone wanted to see what was going on.
Perhaps we have a budding artist?
After cleaning the surface of the table, hauling things up and down the stairs, and staging this photo of Maeve, my back was a bit sore. So that’s all I got done for the day. Now I have to figure out what I want to paint. The jury is still out.
We’re slowly coming out of our cold snap and it’s sunny today. Don is off to recycle, I’m writing this post, and all is well. I am SO ready for Spring. I always find this ‘in between’ time difficult, but maybe less so than winter itself because I know that just a little patience is needed on my part. It’s around the corner.
Yesterday, Don went to the store to get some groceries and I was stressed because of that comment yesterday and when he came in the door, he pulled this out of the bag:
Bless his heart! When we were out and about last week eating fries for lunch, I stopped at the bookstore to get this magazine and there were no copies left on the shelves. I bought the less- interesting-and-less-content-with-several-pages-of-pharmaceutical-ads-smack-dab-in-the-middle-of-the-content Country Living instead. I rarely buy magazines nowadays, but this one – published quarterly – is always a favorite. I couldn’t believe that Don even remembered that this is the magazine I was looking for. I went into the bookstore by myself and he waited out in the car. Half the time, he doesn’t remember what I just said to him two minutes ago!
Anyway, I was surprised and delighted and I love him. He’s a keeper.
I’m loving Bewilderment by Richard Powers. Absolutely loving it.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

How thoughtful of Don. I missed the comment yesterday. I hope you don’t take anything these trolls say seriously.
I agree, Don is a keeper.
Enjoy your painting.
Can’t wait to see what you decide to paint.
Take care
Claudia says
This particular troll was extremely vicious so it’s hard to ignore! But it’s over and we move on.
Stay safe, Marilyn.
Vicki says
And we realize that if the troll was attacking you, he/she was also attacking any of us who commented, but you shielded us from that and had to take the big hit on yourself, so I’m sorry you had to go thru all that, Claudia.
Claudia says
Thank you, Vicki. Sometimes I think “just stop blogging, it isn’t worth it” but then I quickly realize I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.
Stay safe.

LOVE Maeve’s sweater! She’s a cutie! And three cheers on the magazine. I have a “free” subscription to Country Living, which I vowed I would never take again because I hate the ads. (British Country Living, if you can find it, is insanely beautiful and the ads are so well done half the time I don’t even know they are ads. But it is hard to find here and too expensive to subscribe to). Country Home is nice — I’ll have to check it out! Well done, Don!
I’ve been taking some online free workshops this week in Sketchbook Revival (you can still register — some are painting, some other things and the tutorials stay active till mid-April). They are freeing me up, working out of my comfort zone, which is a good thing — and getting me back into daily art. Between that and working on my blog2print book, life is busy.
We are very cold this morning, ice storm predicted (hasn’t materialized); 60s by 5 and then plummeting to below freezing tomorrow. I wish Sprinter would make up its mind and turn into full on spring!
Jen says
Yes, British Country Living Magazine is wonderful!! It’s my splurge if I can find it!
Claudia says
It’s usually in my Barnes and Noble, Jen.
Stay safe.
Linda says
I agree with you-I have a subscription to British Country Living, it is beautiful .
It is indeed a treat. country Living is not worth the money
Chy says
Jeanie, my 2 favorite magazines that I do indulge in are the UK Country Living and The English Home. Both I find at Indigo and they are usually at least a month behind. I just found February the other day for UKCL but have not found TEH just yet. Actually in Alberta where I live, I can only get it every other month. But I cherish it when it shows up on the shelf of our favorite bookstore. Save On Foods also often carries both as well but I get a discount at Indigo so I try and find it there.
X Chy
Claudia says
I read the British Country Living occasionally.
I hope you didn’t get that ice storm, Jeanie! And I love the word, “Sprinter!” Perfect.
Stay safe.
Olivia says
I like your new blog photo. You look mysterious to me. I have always thought you look like the New York chef Amanda Freitag. You are both beautiful women.
Claudia says
Oh, thank you so much, Olivia! How kind of you.
Stay safe.

How thoughtful of Don to get Country Home for you. I’ve been getting free subscriptions of various magazines for the last two years…and I don’t think the content, no matter the source, is worth the price they are charging for the mags I got for free. This magazine looks like an exception…hope you enjoy.
Hope you can relax today, take a break and paint. It’ll be interesting to see what you decide on. Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Country Living is so thin these days and packed with ads. Country Home used to be a monthly publication. Then they stopped publishing for a while, which broke my heart, and now they’re back as a quarterly. NO ads within the content pages. Hurrah!
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Donnamae says
Good to hear. I’ll have to check out Country Home again….I used to enjoy it very much. ;)

Shake it off dear girl
You are a fantastic person from what I read on your blog
The situation on the show was escalated
The one man had no business making such a comment
The other man had no business reacting in public
Enjoy your magazine
Enjoy your painting
Thank you for book reviews
Claudia says
Thank you for your kind words, Brenda.
Stay safe.

I’m so sad you felt like you needed to delete your post but totally understand. Trolls…go away! I love that magazine and Don is so thoughtful to buy it for you. I’m happy to hear you are getting ready to paint again. I’ve been doing more watercoloring and I enjoy it very much. I’m not any good at it but I enjoy it and that is what counts. Big Hugs and chin up my friend. We know who you are!
Claudia says
Frustrating trying to paint again. I just need to be patient!
Stay safe, Linda.
Vicki says
Oh, that Don! (My husband tunes me out a lot; actually, my voice puts him to sleep [I guess I’m REALLY boring!].)
Claudia says
Don retains what he wants to retain! Fortunately, he must have wanted to retain ‘Country Home.’
Stay safe, Vicki.
Tana says
I just remembered I wanted to thank you for the picture of one of your book shelves! I love nothing better that browsing other people books. I always do it and I just hope no one minds. And wanted to tell you I love your girls. They look so petite, I can’t imagine making clothes for them. The clothes they wear look so detailed and lovely. And Don getting you the magazine is so sweet. He is a very charming gentleman. Is this too much sweetness for one comment? But I do mean it all. You both have a wonderful day.
Claudia says
You can never have too much sweetness, Tana!
Stay safe.
Deb says
I too love the new photo. I liked the old one too of course but it’s nice to change things up a bit. Or so I’m told. I don’t much care for change myself!
Without question Don is the best. As are your girl photos. I just love them. What personalities they each exhibit. And yes, Portrait Artist of the Year is on Amazon Prime and there is also Landscape Artist of the Year which I haven’t seen but certainly will. I think you’ll like it.
Claudia says
I’m going to watch some of that show later today, Deb. Perfect for a rainy day.
Stay safe.
kaye says
I think you look very French in your new photo.
Take Care,

Claudia says
Thank you, Kaye! Years ago, people would sometimes tell me I looked French. I didn’t see it at all.
