Gratitude

sunflowers

Messenger

My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird –
equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast, there the blue plums.
There the clam deep in the speckled sand.

Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young, and still half-perfect? Let me
keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work,

which is mostly standing still and learning to be
astonished.
The phoebe, the delphinium.
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all the ingredients are here,

which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart
and these body-clothes,
a mouth with which to give shouts of joy
to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,
telling them all, over and over, how it is
that we live forever.

We’ll see how well I do with all the yummy food, Tana. We were good and didn’t make or buy a dessert.
      Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you, Claudia, for sharing this beauty. I have so many favorite lines from Mary Oliver. This is a wonderful poem for the day, and the image of sunflowers is lovely on this frosty morning. Thanks for a depthful (I know, that’s not really a word but I like it) and meaningful blog. Best to you, Don and Scout.

We had a little sprinkling yesterday and the day before, but rain took over…I would rather have seen snow. Ah, well. It’s very cold here today and very windy. Happy Thanksgiving, Donna!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
