Green

April 17, 2023 at 8:32 am by Claudia

As you can see, the garden beds are still full of leaves, but oh my goodness, it’s so green out there. I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve been sick or traveling back and forth the NYC, but this has taken me by surprise this year. Usually, I’m watching everything like a hawk, waiting for some sign of spring. This year, however, I didn’t have the energy to do that. Add in three days of temps in the 90s and we have this. Green.

It’s raining today and will rain pretty much all day long. We will definitely need to mow the lawn this week. Every year, I look forward to our first pass at the lawn. The grass in the Secret Garden is really, really long!

Don’s surgery is a week from this coming Friday. He’s in such pain all of the time. Sometimes he’s short tempered, and I have to remind myself that living with pain all day, every day, takes a toll on a person. I suspect he’s handling it better than I would. I can’t wait until he has the surgery and can start the recovery process.

Does that mean I will have to cook?

Oh boy, we’re in trouble.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I had to look back through your posts to remind myself what Don was having surgery for and it’s the hand surgery, right? It must be so painful for a person who uses his hands for music so much. I bet he can’t wait for relief…
We have lots of green here also but it has gotten cold again and there are snow flurries on my pretty tulips! Typical Midwest weather!
    Stay safe!

      Darn that snow!

I got sunburned on Saturday at granddaughter’s soccer game and today it is snowing in Michigan. It’s crazy and I’m ready for real Spring. We are going to freeze at tonight’s soccer game.
I have 2 words for the cooking situation after Don’s surgery…Take Out. Actually, I do have faith that you can cook if you have to. Hope you are both almost over the crud.
    Take care

      Take out gets expensive, Marilyn!

It will be back to basics for a while. No concoctions whipped up by Don.

      Stay safe.

I can imagine how you are both looking forward to Don’s surgery….pain for so long must be agonizing! All the green looks so fresh! We could do with some more rain. The weather has certainly been interesting across the country.

not to wish away time, but especially for don and you, i will be glad when it’s a week from this saturday … when his surgery is done and recuperation will begin. will keep praying for you both and everyone else, too.

and the cooking will go just fine, too… even if you don’t jump for joy to do it (i don’t, either,
but do enjoy it for my family. plus have found that an organized grocery list, meal prep and re-heatable casseroles make the daily stuff easier.) :)

the main thing is for you and don to feel better soon. sounds like you’re both over the worst of that crud. hope so. soon enough you’ll be able to do some gardening. in the meantime and anytime, you have a lovely view and all that green!

hope you can enjoy the rain! we had flurries for hours yesterday, but the ground was warm enough that nothing added up. very green here, too. and flower-y (lots of ornamental trees in town) … will enjoy them while they’re in bloom because spring rains and wind will have blossoms gone in a week.

working on big and little projects around here and spending time with members of my family each day. :) what a blessing every day and especially after the worst of covid.

hope you, don and everyone else have a very good, easy day. stay safe.

I never enjoy cooking. For me or for my family.

      That’s the plain truth.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

Positive thoughts on Don’s hand surgery for a speedy smooth recovery and to enable his use of his thumb without pain or aggravation. Also to see an end to the illness you’ve had. I hope you’re out there doing your gardening soon.

I’m at the end of my miserable congestion/cough, a combo of virus and allergies. Got the viral part from. My daughter who had to stay home 3 weeks from work, with a contingent of pill bottles lined up on the counter. I’ve had it for a week and a half, and feel better but only with OTC allergy meds. I think I’m prodded to get better faster because I fly off to Greece at the end of the week.

It has been a terrible virus, or whatever it is. We’re both feeling better today.

Have a wonderful time in Greece, Wendy!

      Stay safe.

You’ll be fine as the designated cook , Claudia, while Don is recovering from his surgery. It’s amazing what you can scare up for a meal when you’re hungry. Hope Don’s surgery goes well. What a lovely picture you posted. The rain and the sunshine really greens up the grass. We heard the first lawn mower on the weekend. It’s rainy and grey here, too, and much colder. Take gentle care. Hugs, Elaine

It’s green here, too — except for the snow part. Not a lot. It was sticking this morning but not this afternoon, but still, after high temps over the weekend, seeing nickel-sized flakes of snow is not my dream Monday!

I hope you’re feeling better and that the surgery and time leading up to it goes well. What a time you two have had. Yes, if I was in Don’s shoes, I might be a tad cranky, too. It’s tough, daily pain.

I have to enlist his help with some chores before he can’t use his hand.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

I am confident you will manage just fine in the cooking department. Who knows…you might even try a new concoction or two yourself?

I’m sure the relief will be wonderful for Don’s thumb after the surgery. Being pain free will be a huge lift for him, and as a result, for you, too.

Hope all goes well for you the next two days…travel safe! ;)

Nope. I won’t. I do not like cooking.

I’ll be glad to get the surgery over with, Donnamae. Then the healing can start.

      Stay safe.

The green is so lovely; thanks for the photo today! We’re dreary and overcast in Southern California, low 60s; I dunno, June Gloom, May Gray, what will we now call April?!

dear Claudia/Don–hope surgery for Don will be the best solution. hopefully. all will be better –although probably some recup time necessary. So, Claudia, dust off your cooking skills!! just stick to basic stuff — tuna salad, grilled cheese, veggie only meals are very popular here at our house as are eggs and toast (I’m really good at making toast, haha!!) enjoy your rain — very dry here — how can that be when we had rain during the winter??? best wishes to y’all — stay safe/healthy or healthier, ha

My post would be titled “White”–like so many others here, snow again this morning. I don’t mind usually, but the snow plus the winds makes me reluctant to take the pup out to burn off energy. Two positives–a non-allergy day and I won’t have to water my lawn seed today!

There is no good time for surgery, but it’s such a relief to get it over with and start getting back to normal. Nurse Claudia to the rescue?!

    Enjoy the greenery and birdsong.

I hope you’ve returned from your trip to NJ and have time now to rest before Don’s surgery. My husband has had hand surgery, but it was on a different finger. Recovery was a bit slower than he wanted, but isn’t that true of most surgeries? Wishing you, Don, and your friend Adrian smooth healing from here.

Pain is so evil. It makes us say and do evil things. It will wonderful when Don is finally able to have some relief. And wonderful for you, too! Grace is the best way to get through it for now and then the healing will begin.

Are you done with trips to the city for this show, or are there more ahead? Glad you are both feeling better. Hope you had a good day! Take care.

Well, Don is just a bit testy, nothing evil said. But you are so right. Pain can be debilitating and it takes a toll on our mood and well being.

I just finished the show on Tuesday night, after driving to NJ to take notes on the invited dress rehearsal.

      Stay safe, Chris.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
