At some point in the late afternoon, I took a quick glance outside and what did I see?
Buddy.
And later, I realized that he was with one of his siblings.
So I officially give up. Trying to figure out what is going on with these guys is fruitless. They’ve been gone, they’re back. Maybe they were off building their new homes and were taking a break? Maybe they haven’t even started doing that yet? Maybe both of them are living under this tree? Or one of them is? Maybe they were hanging out with mom up in the back forty? Who knows?
Of course, I had to go out there and erect my little bin wall again. Even so, the sibling knocked one of the lids down and was in the big garden so I had to make an appearance, just as I did this morning when a baby bunny ended up in the memorial garden.
Speaking of bunnies:
A mama and her baby. They were hanging out by the Funky Patio.
And then,
Mama, baby, and off in the background, the groundhog who lives under the shed.
Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom.
Today it is supposed to be unbearably hot and humid so I’m going to make this short. I need to do a little work outside before the humidity gets to me.
This summer? A love-hate thing. I love the summer but the weather conditions, and that includes smoke from wildfires and flash flooding, has been a giant pain in the tush. Still, I love watching our animal family, and yesterday I saw a hummingbird moth flitting between coneflowers, and the grass is really green again, and our well is filled up, so I’m grateful.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

glad you saw buddy and one of his siblings as well as the bunnies and got some cute photos of them, too!
hope you get your outdoor tasks done before the heat and humidity get oppressive.
raining here right now with lightning and thunder and i am very happy about that. love rain, plus we sure need it.
yesterday, after a routine doctor’s appointment and before the bird-seed store opened, i went to the biggest antique store we have around here. that felt both good and weird. i thought i’d just look around, but ended up buying something … a full sheet of stamps from 1981 (when they cost 20 cents) that show the chosen bird and flower for each state and which someone had put it in a simple old black wooden frame. :) i took it to a friend who has a frame shop and he replaced the backing board and torn dust-wrap paper. and i love it. :)
hope you, don and everyone else have a very good day and stay safe.

maybe i should add something to clarify … i have many collections, but am not into stamp collecting. i bought the framed sheet of stamps yesterday for their imagery and my enjoyment and appreciation of nature. my parents have fed the birds as far back as i can remember, all my life, and so started my love of nature and wish to help other beings. :) also, this looks a bit like folk art. or at least non-traditional art and i like that, too. :)
happy wednesday!

Kathy, I looked on ebay at the sheet of stamps you bought. I don’t collect stamps either but I would have been tempted to buy those. All the birds together were so colorful and beautiful. Enjoy your new purchase.
kathy in iowa says
hej, olivia…
thank you!
they’re not up on the wall yet (i’ve been gone overnight), but i am enjoying the stamps … they are each a little work of art. will put them up tomorrow. :)
maybe you’ll get some for yourself?!? :)
do you collect anything?
hope all’s well for you and your loves and you are comfortable (not too hot, not too much rain …). stay safe.

Plenty of people frame stamps – they’re art. I have some framed stamps of my ancestor, Sir Rowland Hill, who invented the Penny Post in England.

I always loved Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom! That was fun to see Buddy and the bunnies. Stay safe in all the heat!
Claudia says
It’s awful out there!
Stay safe, Barrie.

You have a regular menagerie there! And a charming one. I’m glad Buddy is back and I’m loving the baby bunnies. I’ve been reading a bio of Beatrix Potter and your buns have me reminded of the Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny gang.
Claudia says
They are pretty adorable! And not nearly as afraid of us as the groundhogs are.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Kay in SE WI says
I feel you, Claudia, and your conflicted summer emotions. I too love the season – the garden, being able to sit outside in the early evenings when a cool breeze blows, watching the birds and other wildlife out the windows. But I hate, hate the humidity and being in air conditioning all the time which plays havoc with my sinuses.
We seem to be short on bunnies this year for some reason. I miss them. Maybe they don’t care for our little deer family. I have cultivated a bunch of squirrel buddies though. It began when I started feeding them the winter we had so much snow and I felt sorry for them. Plus they were standing on the 6 foot drifts in the backyard eating from the bird feeders with ease.
Gray ones, red ones, chipmunks, they all come to the little smorgasbord I set out for them each morning. This way they leave my feeders alone.
Take care,
Kay
Claudia says
Oh, how kind of you! Feeding the squirrels is such a compassionate thing to do, Kay.
Stay safe.

I’m with you on Wild Kingdom. I live in a development not in the country at all and we have deer, fox, bunnies, squirrels, and chipmunks. No groundhogs. An occasional bear in the distance. My flower battle is mostly with the deer. Poor things. I’m also with you re this heat and humidity. Mowed the substantial yard yesterday and since I was so miserable, I weeded also. I did trimming early this morning and now I’m done for the week! Take care Claudia.
Claudia says
I did a lot of work out there yesterday, too much, and it was so darned humid!
Stay safe, Susan.
Tana says
Oh my gosh! You have an entire wildlife play going on in your yard. Coffee and breakfast and the latest episode. Enjoy!!
Claudia says
I will, Tana!
Stay safe.
Donnamae says
And Buddy returns…lol!
Yes…a Wild Kingdom it is. Here too. But, we love it, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. We are surrounded by nature, but still within the city limits for easy convenience.
It is raining here…yay. Nothing like you’ve been getting, but it is very welcome here. Stay dry…and out of the humidity! ;)
Claudia says
Glad you finally got some rain, Donnamae!
Stay safe.
Elaine in Toronto says
Lots of little critters to take your mind off the weather. It’s still hot and humid here. We have two cats who visit us everyday. One is a tabby called Bogart and one is a tuxedo called Jas. We think they know each other because they don’t fight if they happen to appear together. Jas meows at the living room window. We let her in and she roams about in the house. Then we feed her and off she goes. We have no clue where either of them live or what their real names are – no collars. Jas has been visiting, summer and winter for over three years. We have lost two pets over the years so we welcome these little vagabonds. Hugs, Elaine

You are very kind, Elaine. I’m so glad you have some sweet animals that visit you!
