Has This Ever Happened to You? (second in a series)

May 24, 2009 at 1:43 am by Claudia

I love my lipstick. I’ve worn the same shade for many, many years and I pray that Revlon never discontinues it. When I am about to leave for the day, I put it in the pocket of my jeans. I don’t know when I started this little ritual, but it came about because I didn’t want to be digging for it in my bag. This way it is always handy.

While my husband was visiting this past week, I was in the bathroom and leaned over to flush the toilet. Much to my chagrin, my lipstick fell out of my pocket and before I could do anything, went right down the toilet. Since I was heavily booked at rehearsals, my husband volunteered to buy me a new one at the drugstore. He did, bless him, and I had a nice, new lipstick.

Fast forward to yesterday. I had to get up very early in the morning to take husband to the airport. We had been at an Opening Night party the evening before and didn’t get home until late. Neither of us got enough sleep. After saying goodbye to Don, I had to attend a run-through rehearsal and do some coaching. I came home around 4:00 and decided to throw the sheets and towels in the wash. Since I am staying at an apartment complex, I have to gather my quarters and use the pay washer and dryer that are down a couple of flight of stairs. At the last minute, I decided to throw in my jeans, too. (You know where this is going.) I loaded everything in the washers and realized I had neglected to bring the money. Back up the stairs, back down the stairs, back up the stairs. After about a half hour, I went back to the laundry area, took everything out of the washer and put it all in the dryer. About 40 minutes later, back to the laundry room to check on the dryer (in case I had to add a quarter and extend the drying time.) I was horrified to see red blotches all over everything. Had something been in the dryer I didn’t notice? Something that bled all over the sheets, towels, pajamas, and jeans? I was confused. As I felt around, my hand touched part of a lipstick tube and I knew. I had left the darn tube in my jeans and it had melted all over my laundry. I was so angry I could spit. Angry at myself, of course. I was just too tired and didn’t think.

I had to run back to the apartment, get some cleaner and wipe down the whole inside of the dryer. This now made about 10 trips up and down the stairs. Luckily the dryer cleaned up nicely. When I toted all the laundry back up the stairs to my apartment and examined it more closely, I discovered a few things (jeans, top) were salvageable (after an extensive treatment of Spray ‘n Wash Max), but the sheets, towels, and pajamas were goners. Which is why I found myself driving to Target at 5:30 to buy some replacements. Oh, and I bought another lipstick. Revlon 525 Creme ~ Wine with Everything.

Lesson learned.

Oh dear. Yes I have done that but not with lipstick. I have a habit of leaving pens in my scrubs. I’ve ruined many things by doing that! Love that “wine with everthing” shade. I wear it sometimes too.

I have not done it with lipstick, but I have doneit with chapstick. The color is not there but the waxy ‘coating’ it there!!

Oh snap, that’s quite a mess, but on the brighter side, at least you could actually “see” the lipstick, this happened to me but it was the daughter’s chapstick, which I couldn’t see to wipe it all up the first time, so the greasy stains appeared forever in the laundry until I finally got it all out. I feel your pain. ;)
Oh, and btw, I used that very same shade for a long long time, and the matching blush shade, loved it forever!!

OMG, I can only imagine what a mess that was to clean up. The perils of laundry, my girls leave everything in their pockets. I tend to leave my ATM in my pockets more than anything else.

Hope you have a great weekend.

I’m lucky enough not to have had this happen. Glad you were able to salvage something.

Look on the bright side, you got new p.j.’s and a great workout in for the day.

Oh, my!! What a time you had. How frustrating. I felt it just reading about it. I have had some times like that in the past. They make for a good story! Happy late Pink Saturday!

How frustrating! Both the dropping it in the toilet and then washing and drying the replacement! I have teenagers, so I find all kinds of things in the washer and the dryer. I have had some disasters and been very upset. However, I’m happy to have never found some of the items a parent dreads to discover in the pockets of their kids’ clothing!!!
I’d love to hear more about your productions – maybe a post or a link on what and when and where???

I have done it too! I always keep my lipgloss in my pocket, I think I’m compulsive about using it.
Thankfully you didn’t ruin the dryer!

OK— we are related… we have to be. Estee Lauder Maple Sugar lives in my jean pockets. I work where carrying a purse isn’t logical. I’ve worn the same shade for years….Lord help if they quit making it…. Enjoy the holiday…..

Claudia, I’m sorry you had a bad laundry day but you sure made me chuckle this Monday morning. I did not have it happen with lipstick but with pens! I did not get by your Pink post until this morning. Love your little teapot! It’s so cute! Have a wonderful Memorial day. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Guilty as well. My husband had stained socks forever. He only wore them around the house!

Glad you were able to find your shade. I carry about ten lipsticks in my purse but they have always been the same ten. If one was discontinued…I’d perish!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
