Hazy, Hot, and Humid

June 28, 2021 at 8:35 am by Claudia

I’m still working on the shape of this vase. I thought I got it down yesterday (after this picture was taken) but as I look at it this morning, I realize I have corrections to make. None of this is helped by the weather. We had a heat advisory yesterday, another today, and it will go on until later in the week. It is very hot and very humid here. Consequently, I have a small window in which to paint because I don’t want the air conditioner blowing fumes from the oil paint all over the kitchen.

I am not a morning person, but I’ve already watered the garden, paid the bills so Don can mail them, started a load of laundry, and watered all the houseplants. And I haven’t even had my second cup of coffee! Have to get everything done early in this weather.

Sorry about the lack of a post yesterday. Sometimes I’m faced with technical problems on the blog, which have to be dealt with. I had to call my host and, frankly, the guy I spoke to wasn’t any help. Usually, they are very helpful, but we had a language barrier (turns out he was in the Philippines) and he didn’t understand what I was trying my best to explain. I turned to my security company and, because it was a Sunday, they took a while to get back to me. In the meantime, I discovered the solution to my other problem which had to do with my browser and an extension I was using. Once I dealt with that, everything was back to normal. Problems that were, in the end, very minor.

Sigh. It does make for a tedious day.

So, I’m back at it.

If you’re dealing with this same weather pattern, stay hydrated and stay inside.

By the way, I read that the World Health Organization is recommending that fully vaccinated persons should wear a mask in public places, especially indoors, because of the Delta variant, which is spreading quickly and has, in some cases, infected those who were fully vaccinated. I still wear a mask in the stores and it looks like my instinct about this variant was right.

So…stay safe.

Happy Monday.

My family and I continue to mask indoors…We have not stopped…just not safe.. Glad you are doing the same. Love your paintings…the blog…in Florida, I have breezes as live near ocean…air conditioners have difficult time down here…same as when I lived five years in South Carolina, however, for me, better than ice, cold, and snow…take care…reviewed the ELLY G. new book…comes out soon.

Unbelievable isn’t it? I have spent summer months in Texas, California, Washington, Indiana, Ohio, WV, South Carolina, Florida, etc. etc. etc., and I have not seen a difference in them. One summer-June-July-spent in D.C. studying Shakespeare at Folger’s Institute-a month long program…whew…one month spent in Massachusetts at Shakespeare and Company…town houses with NO air…oh my goodness, I thought I would not survive…the cafeteria was an oven…the dance studio, everywhere…and you might laugh, but I went to England two times for Shakespeare-all of these were teachers chosen for institutes…The first time was June…I remember I was on the second floor over the kitchens…I went to the folks at the welcoming counter and reported my air conditioning wasn’t working..>They chuckled…there was none…I did not make the mistake the next time-two years later-in July…I took cooler clothes and requested a room not close to the kitchen…that time we spent some time at a B and B in Stratford Upon Avon…so so hot…I always had the windows open and just didn’t care about safety…I do not do well in the heat with no AC…headaches, etc…and my bone diseases are worse…alas…I remember growing up and hearing about AC…couldn’t wait…might seem spoiled but I am not really…just have to be comfortable and not get sick…I totally understand what you are going through…it is difficult…try to stay cool…maybe central air one day although it has trouble keeping up in the south…take care my friend…I have stopped reading many many blogs because of their stances on politics and masks, etc…I love yours.

We can’t have central air as we have no duct system. It would be far too expensive for us. Our window units are fine and they work really well, though this extreme weather is making them less efficient than normal.

    Thank you sooooo
    Much for the mask information.
That is what we do but we go to the market first thing in the morning and somany no mask.
I don’t really care if people look at us weird.
    We are older.
Last week at was looking in the frozen food section atTrader Joe’s and a man pushed me aside reached over me to grab something , no mask.
Guess we will live our simple life at home , a home we love that we are thankful for.
Stay cool it is so humid here too.

thanks much for sharing the who’s updated mask guidelines. i’d like to be wrong about this, but i don’t think the end of covid-19 is here or as near as some people think/act.

glad you were able to fix the tech problems. now about that heat and humidity …! we’ve enjoyed some spotty, very brief showers and temperatures in the low 80s. wish i could both keep it here and send it to you.

the start of that painting looks good. keep going!

    happy monday.

Glad your tech problem worked out. It’s not so hot here in Mich. High 70s and rain most of the week, but it is very humid.
Nothing new on my granddaughter…has an appointment this afternoon. So we will see.
I feel like we will never be done with covid. Michigan just dropped all restrictions on masks and capacity for restaurants. I don’t feel comfortable with all the people. Summertime along the lake is touristy, crowded beaches, festivals, music, etc.
And not many masks. Of course alot of this is outdoor. I will continue to wear a mask when I shop.
    Stay safe

      praying for your granddaughter.
glad she has an appointment today.

and that you have cooler weather.

our governor lifted mask and capacity restrictions, all restrictions, last february (yes … february!!) … yet our government employees are still working at home or their offices remain closed to the public … a disgusting double-standard. and
last week my boss asked “what will it take for you to stop wearing a mask?” i agree with you, marilyn … now is not the time to drop precautions. ugh.

be safe and well. better days are ahead!

The humidity is a bother here but, of course, it isn’t as bad as the West has it with the high temps and fires so I won’t complain. And I have A/C so I am better than many who are suffering. Hope relief comes their way soon.

Well, we can always say that about any weather. It’s always going to be worse somewhere else.

But for those of us who have respiratory issues and allergies, this kind of humidity generates unhealthy air, filled with mold and mildew (both of which I am allergic to.) It’s even worse for those who have asthma and lung issues. So, if you’re living in it, and have to go outside, or even if you’re mostly inside, it’s dangerous. And a/c only does so much.

      Stay safe, Ellen.

We never stopped wearing our masks when we are out and about. I can be glad that almost fifty percent of us locally are fully vaccinated now, but I know that many of the unmasked shoppers are not. The Delta variant is gaining steam and hitting younger citizens. So sad.

Hot here, but thank heavens we are high desert so low humidity. My sister in the Pacific NW though, yikes! Jer weatherman said that it could get up to one-oh-eight or one-oh-ten. Poor guy, he’d never had to report a temp that high before. I got my much-needed laugh of the day anyway!

Keep cool…read, dream, nap, tepid showers and salad for dinner…that’s my plan.

Good work solving the computer problems. Issues like that frustrate me even though I’m not computer illiterate.

Warm here in Michigan but not too bad for Florida people.

    Stay cool.

That detail on the rounded part of the vase is going to be tricky. This looks like a tough one.

I’m still a masker in any public spot where I don’t know the history of others. It just isn’t worth taking the chance (although I will say, when I was in physical therapy yesterday I was just dying to rip it off, it was so hot!) MI is at 47 percent vax rate. Our county (according to NYT stats) is at “Low” risk but up north just show up to “high” from “moderate” over the weekend. I’ll be sticking close to home up there!

The difference in risk from south to north in Michigan doesn’t surprise me!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
