I took this photo the day I arrived in Hartford: Sunset Over the Capitol Building.
I haven’t had a chance to walk through the park yet but at some point, I’ll get more photos of the Capitol, which is gorgeous, and the rest of the park. I’ve been here in the winter, but only briefly, so it will be interesting to record the wintry landscape of the park.
All photos are being taken by my iPhone. I didn’t bring my big girl camera with me.
This morning, before rehearsal, I’m going to visit the library. As most of you know, the Hartford Public Library – downtown branch – is one of my favorite places here in Hartford. I’ve been looking forward to getting over there and had planned that for my day off on Monday, until I was reminded that it’s a national holiday. I had secretly hoped the library would be open anyway, but it will be closed.
I found myself (this is silly, I know) in a bit of a panic. What?? I couldn’t spend a couple of hours there on Monday? Not knowing what my schedule will be like next week and/or when I would have the time to stop in again, I decided to stop by the library on this rainy Saturday morning.
It’s not as if I don’t have enough reading material already. I’ve got at least 4 books lined up to read. It’s just that there might be gems awaiting me there; new books that I might not know about, that I might not be able to buy, but could surely check out for a week or two. You understand, don’t you?
I don’t like it when my only day off is also a holiday.
Our table work has been very rewarding. We should be able to finish up that part of the process on Sunday. I imagine Darko will start staging it next week. And the fight choreographer, who is another old friend from my days at the Old Globe, will be arriving mid-week. It’s all very exciting.
Did I mention I love Shakespeare? I’m so grateful that I have a home-away-from-home here at Hartford Stage. I love the theater and the staff and my colleagues.
Barbara, look what I brought with me from home:
The robot you sent me has a temporary home in Hartford. When I was packing, Don said I should take him with me, so I did. He makes me smile. And he reminds me of Mr. Robot, which starts filming again in the spring. So far, it looks like Don will be in two episodes. Knock on wood. Thanks, Barbara!
Happy Saturday.

I’m glad you found time to visit the library today. It is frustrating when you have plans and for some reason something throws a kink into them, like a national holiday! My, my! Your life sounds exciting to me. I can’t imagine working in the theater. Congratulations to Don on the two episodes of Mr. robot! Have a wonderful day Claudia.
Blessings, Betsy

It’s all I can imagine, Betsy! Though I’ve certainly worked in offices as a temp, in a veterinary clinic, as a teacher, you name it!

I think you may have mentioned that you love Shakespeare, maybe once or twice…but who’s counting! Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Really??? I have???
Donnamae says
Hehe! ;)

Oh, I hope you find a treasure of a book at the library to read! Then, whenever you think about that book, you will remember that it was a book you read from one of your favorite libraries, while you were working on a Shakespeare play. I know you love both of them!!
We are back in the deep freeze here! The high tomorrow is supposed to be -4* w/ a windchill of about -25 to -35. Fun!!!! I truly am trying to stay positive…
Hope your day is a good one!!!
Claudia says
I found four books and brought them home with me. One is written by a former student’s husband and, though it’s not my usual genre, I decided to give it a try. It’s going to get very cold here tomorrow. We’re usually about a day behind you guys!

Hope you had a successful library explore, Claudia!
Claudia says
I did, though I was pressed for time. I’ll get back there again soon.

That made me smile!
There was a Mr. Robot marathon on last weekend – I turned on the TV and there was Don! I like the house they filmed in – it looks sort of Arts and Crafts style.
It was a 60+ hour work week and it’s bitterly cold (minus 33 degrees Celsius at last glance), so I’m hibernating today. Enthusiasm for the theatre must be contagious. My daughter placed first in her class exams, so I’ve just been online to buy tickets to see Carmen next month as a ‘well done’ treat. Are there any miniature shops within driving distance of where you’re staying?
If so, it might be fun to look..
Claudia says
Don loved that house. It’s in Brooklyn. He wanted to move there!
I’m not sure about miniature shops – I think there aren’t any because I think I checked into them before. But I’ll look online.

Even if you don’t find anything, I’m sure you will enjoy your time at the library. Sounds like a good place to be on a rainy day.
Claudia says
I found some books – they have everything there, especially everything that’s just been published.

I think if I ruled the world, there’d be a few places I’d always keep open, even on national holidays – and at the top of that list would be libraries. I would pay the staff who worked those days very well – double time at least – but it would be well worth it. I gotta think libraries could get quite a lot of traffic on holidays. Kids home from school, Moms bringing little ones for storytime etc. Let retail stories close on holidays instead – they don’t even close on Sundays anymore. Grumph – grumph – argggh! LOL. ?
Claudia says
I know – I was surprised they were going to be closed. Surely those who work 9-5 would welcome the chance to stop in on a holiday? I can’t go there tomorrow, but they have jazz concerts on Sunday afternoons. I’m going to try to take advantage of that.

Claudia, I would love to see Don in that show. Be sure to keep us posted. I loved your quilt in a previous post. I could not leave a comment then…so I had to tell you it is beautiful. Blessings to you, be safe, xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Susie. Have a good weekend!
Vicki says
Gorgeous photo. I’d love to know more about Hartford; never been there…
Am excited for Don! I didn’t know anything about Mr. Robot, but then it seemed to get some awards lately, Golden Globes. Looking into it more…
Library sounds heavenly!
Claudia says
He did three episodes last season, which was the first season. He plays the father of one of the lead actresses.
Vicki says
Wow, how did I miss this? Must have been when I was living on Mars…
Sue says
Libraries are such a calming place. Even on the busiest of days a trip to one is like its own little escape. Very happy for you that you found new reading material on your visit!
It must be wonderful for you to connect with so many old friends through your work. The stories you share with one another must be very enjoyable.
Have a good rest of the weekend and congrats to Don on landing more episodes on Mr. Robot.
Claudia says
It’s lovely to be reunited with old friends and to make new ones, Sue.
Linda @ A La Carte says
I read this post yesterday but had a Scout all over me so didn’t get to comment. Glad you got to the library and I love that Mr Robot ornament. I’m so glad Don is going to be in the new season also. I need to binge watch the season again…fascinating show.
hugs,
Linda

Just a couple of episodes, but we were just glad to hear they wanted him back.
