Another late afternoon view from the penthouse. That’s the Connecticut River off in the distance.
Well, my friends, it’s time to pack up the apartment and head home. I watched the show last night but I took only a few notes and, in the end, they are notes I’ve given before. There always comes a time, as a coach, when I have to let go. The actors will either make the change or they won’t. Sometimes, they don’t like the note. But more often than not, the actor is already locked into something and try as he/she might, it’s impossible to make the change.
Like weaning a child, I ‘wean’ the actors. It is what it is. This group of actors is very talented and they are doing a bang-up job. They are terrific in every way. The notes I have at this point are so minor that they’re not even going to be noticed by the audience. So…all done.
I’m drinking my second cup of coffee and then it will be time to take a shower and pack. Then the drive home and unpacking. I did a lot of work on our taxes yesterday – we always file an extension – and I’m nearly done. Once I’m home, I have to do some prep work for a coaching job that I start on Monday. It’s only a few days, here and there, of dialect coaching. Not a big commitment.
Thank you Hartford Stage (my home away from home) and everyone involved in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Thank you, Darko for being who you are. You inspire me every day.
I’ve never not been at an opening night here but I feel the need to get home and check on the house and do my prep work there. I don’t want to sit here in the apartment for two days when I could be back home getting organized.
Don will come home on Saturday night for his day off on Sunday. We will most likely travel back to NYC together on Sunday night – I’ll stay there so I can get to rehearsal on Monday morning.
It helps having a little pied à terre near the city.
Happy Thursday.

Safe travels. Tell Stella, and Don, hello!
Claudia says
I will! Thanks so much, Debbie!
Linda @ A La Carte says
It’s good to know when it’s time to say done! Safe travels and enjoy your time at home. Other then taking Mom to a Dr’s appt today and cooking dinner for the whole family tonight, I’ve got a quiet day planned. I really want to finish The Late Show if I can. I’m enjoying this new character very much and look forward to more in the series. I think it’s time for a quick bite to eat before the day gets away from me!
Claudia says
“Cooking dinner for the whole family” would overwhelm me!! That would make it a busy day! Good for you, Linda. The Late Show is wonderful – I also love this new character and can’t wait to read more books centering on her.

Claudia, Going home sounds really the right thing to do. Then you can finish up some tasks and be ready when Don comes home on his short break. Glad you’ll accompany him on his return. Is your next job in NYC? I continue sorting and organizing my daughter’s stamp collection. I’m almost done…up to year 2000. She has nearly 2000 stamps. The collection started when her paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother gave her their collections, which were stored in envelopes. The stamps are now in proper stamp collecting binder sheets. Then she began to grow the collection by buying stamps from the USPS, Royal Mail, Canada Post… like you, she only buys to collect what she likes, not for investment.
Claudia says
My next job is in the city – but it will be a day here, a day there.
Love that someone still collects stamps! It was such a popular hobby when I was a kid and I’m heartened to know your daughter is keeping it alive.
Janet in Rochester says
Wow, those people in the penthouse have a glorious view! Did you say there are really 2 apartments up there & one IS occupied at the moment? For some reason I had an energy spurt yesterday – did laundry & finished up about 20 little half-done projects around the house. Feeling very satisfied with myself today – & enjoying it! LOL. After a shower I tucked myself into fresh sheets early last night & watched Rachel, Lawrence & Brian before getting sleepy. Now I’m looking around for a project & can’t find one. This is unprecedented! What will I do?? Maybe look around on Twitter & Instagram for a bit. Hope your packing & trip home go quickly & safely. The cottage – and now Stella too – will be waiting on you. Have a great day. Peace. 🏡

Claudia says
Yes, one apartment is occupied and one of the tenants carries her bike up those three flights of stairs!!!!
There’s nothing like getting a burst of energy and crossing chores off a list. Thanks, Janet!
Janie F. says
Claudia wanted to let you know that we were blessed during Irma with no damage to our home. We stayed with family who had a generator to run the fridge and fans. Three days without a.c. was awful yet we aren’t complaining. Had lots of limbs to clean up but didn’t lose any trees. I’m sure our area saw winds of over 100 mph. Sunday night was a long frightening night.
Claudia says
Janie, I’m so happy to hear you came through Irma and that all is well. Mere also lost lots of limbs, but the house is intact. I hope you don’t have to deal with those 100 mph winds again! Thank you for letting me know you’re okay.
Donnamae says
I’m sure it will be good to get back to your cottage. Don will be home on Saturday? Perfect! The weather around here has been unseasonably warm…almost too nice. So, we are taking advantage, and getting lots of outdoor projects finished. Enjoy your time at home! ;)
Claudia says
Unseasonably warm here, too. It’s been in the eighties – and humid!! What the??? But I will appreciate it while it lasts!
Donnamae says
Oh…I’m appreciating it alright…just a little bit suspicious. Hesitant as to what Mother Nature is going to throw at us next….as in the next season after Fall, which shall remain nameless! ( Can you tell my paranoia is showing?) ;)
Claudia says
I’m afraid I’ve got that same paranoia. Someone local told me that she heard we’re going to have a bad winter.
NOOOOOO!!!!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
How great that things are progressed so far that you are able to leave. All of your hard work along the way really pays off! I’m sure you are ready to be home. Nice to be able to go into the city w/ Don for your next job. Is that one in the city?
Another glorious day here. I wish we could put them in a freezer bag and store them for a day in Jan or Feb and have it to thaw and enjoy ~~ like the tomatoes and peppers. Happy Thursday!
Claudia says
Yes, that job is in the city – it’s a relatively small one – just a day or two here and there.
Thanks, Chris!
Marilyn says
Have a safe trip home.
Marilyn
Claudia says
Arrived home safely, Marilyn! Thank you!
Teresa Kasner says
I’m so sorry your work and Don’s take you both away so much. That must be hard. But you’ve certainly created a wonderful nest there. I love the plant in it’s new pot and the pottery you found. Fun stuff. I’m so glad Meredith’s home withstood the storm so well. We’re still on evacuation level #2, we get to stay home but have to be packed and ready to leave at a moment’s notice. (Is that the correct use of the apostrophe?) I sure do love Stella. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Claudia says
You are dealing with all of those terrible fires, Teresa. I’m so sorry. The fires themselves are heartbreaking and the possibility of having to evacuate must keep you on edge. Thinking of you and yours! xo
Nancy Blue Moon says
Well I know that you are home now and surely enjoying it!…Glad to hear that Don will be home soon and that you will be traveling back to NYC with him!…I hope you rest peacefully tonight Claudia…
Claudia says
I did. I slept very well! Thanks, Nancy!
