The sky this morning. We had a stormy weekend with a few severe thunderstorm warnings. The weather was, shall we say, unsettled. Today will be rain and storm free, so we’ll finally get a break.
I’ve also done something to my lower right back near my hip. God knows how, because I don’t remember any twinge or warning. So, I’m taking it easy for the next couple of days.
It’s so annoying.
July. God knows what the Supreme Court will come up with today as to the immunity of a President. I’m girding my loins for the decision. But, back to the month change. June seemed to go by rather quickly – I’m surprised it’s July already. I don’t want the summer to fly by because I so enjoy the garden and the flowers and the birds and critters. We’ve had a lot of activity at the birdbath, with birds waiting in line to jump in. The other day a female cardinal was on the edge of the birdbath waiting for a robin to finish bathing. She just sat there, and the robin, to his/her credit, wasn’t threatened by her. Then, when the robin finished and flew off, I fully expected the cardinal to jump in as well. But no, she just sat there, and then flew away.
Oh, I am so fascinated by these birdies!
We’re holding off on more mowing until the grass gets a big longer. Plus, the clover is blooming and I know the bunnies like clover. I’m happy to keep it available on the menu for now.
What else? Babylon Berlin, Season 4 is as brilliant as the first three seasons. The streaming service is releasing two episodes a week, so we have to wait until Tuesday for more. It’s simply the best series I’ve ever seen. We’re also still watching Northern Exposure. Tonight, we’ll finish Season 4 and then there are only two seasons left.
And I’m reading The Light Years, as well as a book on Sissinghurst, which was the home of Vita Sackville-West and her husband, famous for its gardens.
Pru on a walk in our woods. (I got 3 mosquito bites while taking this picture.)
We have some celebrations this week: Meredith’s birthday is on Wednesday, and we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the day we met on Thursday. Whoo hoo!
Stay safe,
Happy Monday.

what a beautiful setting you live in! glad you are soaking in every minute of summer (my least favorite season … so i am enjoying our 65 degree start to the day). june went by quickly here, too.
hope your back/hip feel better soon and heal 100%. is your hand all better now?
glad you’re enjoying “babylon berlin” and “northern exposure”. i can’t watch either right now, but recall watching “northern exposure” and feeling like i was living a life close to joel’s, not wanting to be in such a small town far away from my family … yet i still found that show to be funny and charming with interesting characters and thoughtful, helpful conversations.
hope you, don and everyone else have a good day with. comfortable weather, ease and stay safe.

Not totally better, just because it aches after doing any work outside. But I’m okay.
Believe me, this second time through Northern Exposure after having lived and experienced so much, is very different from the first. So much more powerful.
Stay safe.

Pru looks lovely in her pretty party frock discovering nature. I hate mosquitoes, especially if one gets in the house and buzzes around your head when you’re trying to sleep. Lots of celebrations this week for you plus 4th of July. We’re celebrating Canada 🇨🇦 with hamburgers, potato salad, devilled eggs plus I’m trying out a new baked beans recipe in the slow cooker that includes apple pie filling and bourbon. Yum! Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Enjoy, Elaine!
Stay safe.

I can’t believe how quickly the year is flying by!
I’ll have to pop into Meredith’s blog to say Happy Birthday! Thanks for the reminder.
Claudia says
You’re welcome, Ellen.

dear Claudia/Don — glad you got some rain, we are very dry with small chances at the end of the week — hoping wx is correct — some of our fields look sad. I have been sad, also b/c of the Courts decisions — when I was young, growing up in the 50s-60s, I believed the Supreme Court was the ultimate for deserving honor, respect, admiration — now I realize it was an illusion, that those judges are not special at all but can be bought just like all our politicians are — it is very disheartening as well as disgraceful since “they” are the rule of our country. hope your back recovers with rest. thanks for listening to my ranting. stay safe/healthy

Agree totally on the Supremes. A new low has been reached but I’m afraid there are depths yet to be explored.

I’m devastated – but not surprised – by their ruling. We’re on the precipice of the end of democracy. We cannot let that happen.
Thanks, Linda.
Stay safe.

Good idea to take it easy with your lower back, make sure to rest it.
Glad that you’re enjoying Babylon Berlin again. It’s so well done.
I am on annual leave this week and have just returned from a day trip with retired library friends to a different country – Wales! We visited the seaside resort of Llandudno which has some spectacular scenery but it was almost too rainy to see. Fortunately, I have been before.
Happy Monday
Claudia says
Enjoy your week off, Dee Dee!
Babylon Berlin is excellent.
Stay safe.

Sorry to hear about your back – do you by chance ever see a chiropractor? It’s been a game changer for me but I know not everyone likes the idea.

I have an aversion to them, not helped by the fact that my ex-brother-in-law was one!
Thanks, Ceci.
Stay safe.

Catching up on your last few posts and I have to comment on how beautiful your hydrangeas are. The color! Spectacular. I understand you have to have the perfect soil to get that shade of periwinkle/purple combo.
The SCOTUS opinion today is so depressing. I’m ready to totally tune out the news and just focus on summer. IN a way I already have, tuning in late for this decision because I’ve been busy trying to put the upstairs back together. The bath reno is scheduled to be finished next Friday!
You’re right, June DID fly by. It’s been in the low sixties these last two days and it doesn’t even feel like July but here it is. My sciatica has kept me from weeding this summer so I’ve accepted we’re just going to live in a jungle this year.
I was sad to hear about Martin Mull too. When I first met Dean, he was a graduate assistant in the student activities office in charge of scheduling arts events. He arranged for Mull to come perform at the university and I’ll always remember his one request that Dean fulfilled: find the grungiest, ugliest upholstered chair you can. He then sat in that chair while he played his guitar and sang (this was in 1983).
Hope your back is doing better. There is nothing worse than back pain.
Take care,
Kay
Claudia says
Thanks, Kay.
I’m enraged. But I’ll channel that rage into work for the Biden campaign.
Stay safe.

Well, by now you’ve heard about SCOTUS. I don’t know that I’m surprised but I am aghast. And angry. And I hear you on the back, as I’m having the same trouble in the same place. It was a gorgeous day — pity about the other stuff.
Claudia says
I am SO angry!
Maybe this tipping point is the proverbial last straw and we will somehow engineer a better way forward.
Stay safe, Jeanie

I’ve enjoyed the books everyone has recommended recently. So thank you, everybody! I’m loving my summer reading!
I”m grateful I found a new stretching routine for my mornings–yardwork was taking a toll. These aches and pains as we age (unlike fine wine)…sheesh! Hope you recover soon so you can enjoy the rest of the summer.
Claudia says
Unlike fine wine, indeed!
Stay safe, Roxie!
