I moseyed across the street the other day to take a picture of the creek that is just behind my neighbor’s property. We have two rivers within a few hundred feet of the cottage – one is a large river that flows north (it really does!) and this creek is an offshoot of it.
If you traveled down the creek for a few hundred more feet, you would find the property owned by the guy who is trying to put in a glamping resort. You see how close it is to us. That whole thing is still being reviewed, and while I remain hopeful, I fear business – as it always seems to do here – will win out.
Seen under my car, then darting here and there before he/she ran off. As I said on Instagram, he seemed a bit spry for Henry, but I was watching through the living room window and I couldn’t get a good enough look to see if it was indeed our friend. When he took off, he ran to the shed, scooted along the outside wall – all things that Henry does – but then proceeded to walk past the opening to his den.
So the jury is still out. Nevertheless, I was so happy to see a critter here. This isn’t the easiest time for him as this dang cold has kept grass and weeds from growing, and that’s what he dines on. Groundhogs are vegetarians.
He does look a little gray around his muzzle. So maybe it is Henry. Every year he’s still with us is a blessing.
Don is headed home today and I’ll pick him up early this afternoon. Yay! It’s been two weeks since we’ve seen each other in the flesh.
Happy Monday.
kathy in iowa says
hooray for seeing henry/henrietta – and for you and don getting to spend time together!
i hope the “glamping resort” doesn’t happen anywhere near you.
happy monday!

I hope so, too. But it didn’t look good last time I heard anything.

Glad you had a sighting. I am concerned about our cranes…one minute we have grass, weeds…the next, it’s covered in snow. They must be so confused…I know I sure am. And…they are taking turns nest sitting. You can see the area where the nest is from our bathroom…yes, I’m spying.
I am so happy to hear Don is returning to the cottage….enjoy your time together! ;)
Claudia says
I would be spying, too! How wonderful to be able to watch that. The weather is confusing everything; plants, flowers, animals, birds – me!
Dottie says
Happy to see Henry. How are ticket sales going? Hoping for a long run! Enjoy you short but sweet visit.
Claudia says
I really don’t know except that I heard that advance sales were very good.

Glam ping resort? Oh boy! We are a half hour from Disnew World. We adjusted to the increase in traffic and people for many years and survived a few building booms. Our small town life is forever ruined. Now there’s another building boom, one development after the other with no where for all that traffic. We will most likely be selling out and moving in the next few years. Breaks my heart! All the pictures you share are just lovely. Thank you!
Claudia says
Our area is know for its mountains and undeveloped land. We’re afraid this will set a precedent, Janie.
Linda @ A La Carte says
I hope that glamping resort does not win. Such a lovely place you live in. Oh I hope it’s Henry and he just had a good winter’s nap! The birds seem slow to return as they come and then the cold comes back. I’m going to get new feeders and hope the deer don’t eat all the seed like last year (although it was funny to watch them do it). So happy Don gets to come home for a bit. I’m watching a sweet little, no tiny, Wallace Nutting on ebay that stole my heart. Not sure I’ll win it but oh it’s special. Hugs!
Claudia says
I hope you win it, Linda! That would be wonderful!

Henry got out of hibernation and is looking for food. I’m sure he’ll hunker down again until spring really starts. Ugh…construction without consideration is everywhere. The developer of the area where I live tried to move the swim and tennis club (I don’t belong) to the business park nearby and promised it would be a bigger and better facility. He wanted to build a hotel on the site. What?!?! This is a residential area. When that was shot down, he made plans to build dense housing that would impact traffic and overburden the school. The neighborhood shot that down too. Club stayed; no more talk of new development. Sometimes there is victory. Have a grand reunion with Don.
Claudia says
No, all these animals that hibernate are officially out of hibernation now.
I wish our town listened to its citizens the way yours does, Wendy!
shanna says
Well, whoever that sweet groundhog is, he’s adorable! Have a happy reunion with your fella, too!
Claudia says
Thanks, Shanna.
Janet in Rochester says
Oh, yuck. I’m with you. Hope the glamping deal doesn’t work out. You know, everyone always SOUNDS really positive about these things – right up to the time when the deal falls flat. So here’s hoping the deal falls flat. Have fun with Don today – you two should go & just do something fun. And if that’s just crashing & binge-watching something, so be it! We’re having a sunny but chilly Spring day here [in other words, typically “April in Rochester”]. Anyway, enjoy your hubby time today!! Peace.

We’re supposed to get snow this morning. Oy!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Woke up to snow this morning.
It is April 9th.
Madness.
On the news they said this is the 3rd coldest first week of April (here) in as long as they have kept records. Yay us??
Pictures today are wonderful. Nature is waking up, but it seems like they are back in hiding, just as many of us feel! YAY!!!! that Don is homeward bound. Have a grand time.
Claudia says
Snow here today (the 10th) I have had it! But I think this is the last day of cold temps and weird weather, thank goodness!
Audrey Johnson says
Beautiful creek. We have a groundhog on our property too. As long as they are not trying to burrow under any of our living structures they are adorable. When they try to do that, we have a problem. They usually move on to somewhere else pretty quickly if I start poking around too close to a den.
Claudia says
They live under our shed, so we’re okay. Thanks, Audrey!
Kay says
Oh, I do hope the resort doesn’t win out. We are going to develop the heck out of every last peaceful escape in the country if we don’t look out. Acres and acres of farmland are about to be ruined in SE WI when the FoxConn mammoth complex is built (head cheerleader: Gov Walker, may he be out of a job come Nov for this alone). It’s said it will be the size of at least 3 football stadiums when it’s done. I had great hopes for my generation, the Boomers, but we are bound and determined to ruin everything before we shuffle off. So glad you and Don will have time together. I know from hard experience how trying those separations are. Enjoy!
Claudia says
Scott Walker needs to be voted out of office. He’s truly vile. Hang in there, Kay.
Marilyn says
Enjoy your time with Don. Henry is adorable. Looks like Henry is ready fro Spring. That creek scene is so peaceful and relaxing to look at. Seeded the front yard and planted two of the Easter plants. Also had to rake up some left over leaves. My sister did a lot of the grass clean up. She raked and used a claw to get out the dead grass.

Claudia says
I haven’t been able to do any garden cleanup yet because it’s been going down below freezing. I think I can start that by the end of the week.
Nancy Blue Moon says
Maybe it is Henry Jr you see!..lol..Have fun with Don!
Claudia says
It might be. There have been several Henry Jrs around here over the years!
Judy Shaw says
Maybe your Henry wanted a do-over of Groundhog’s Day? Enjoy your time with Don!
Claudia says
He just might have! Thanks, Judy.
