I slept in this morning – thankfully – after being jolted awake during the night by the sound of snowplows on the street below my apartment. Gosh, they’re loud! I guess it snowed a bit last night, though when I look out the window, the amount of snow seems minimal.
Tell me this isn’t crazy – the temperature here tomorrow will reach 50° and Thursday? 55°. What the heck? I read about that gorgeous redwood with the tunnel toppling in the storms out in California. Oh, how sad. Such history and beauty – gone in a second.
These came in the mail from our friends Lynne and Sean, who live in Toronto. I don’t know where she finds them, but Lynnie always finds unique treasures. And could these be any more perfect for Mockingbird Hill Cottage? I’m thrilled with them! In fact, I had some hot chocolate in one of them on Sunday.
And they capture one of the most beautiful moments in that book. “Hey, Boo.” That particular line of dialogue brings tears to my eyes every time. Thank you, Lynne and Sean. We love you.
I’ve started another Elizabeth George – one I purchased before I came to Hartford in December. Just in case. You understand. I always have this particular conversation going on in my head:
“I’m enjoying this book by this author. But what if I finish it and I love it and I don’t have any other novels on hand by this author? If I’m in the mood for more, I won’t want to start a book by another author…hmmmm…I’d better buy this book also written by the author. Just in case.”
This particular Elizabeth George happens to be the book that follows Believing the Lie, so I clearly lucked into picking the right one.
Today, I’ll wander over to the theater, where the initial tech rehearsal continues. Tech started on Sunday – it’s a slow process – and will go on through today. And maybe part of tomorrow. By tomorrow night, we should be able to have a run-through of the show. And Thursday night is the first Preview for audiences. See how quickly it goes? Once we start Previews, I’ll be sitting in the house every night, taking notes on what I can hear and not hear, what needs to be articulated more clearly, and any other Voice & Text issues that arise. Previews will go on through a week from Thursday and then we will open on Friday, January 20th (boy am I glad I have something joyous and happy to watch that day, otherwise I might be slitting my wrists!) and I will return to the cottage the next day.
Today, I’ll check in and see how the show looks with the set, costumes, lighting and sound.
Happy Tuesday.

The mugs are perfect for the cottage! I’m enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee, reading blogs and then back to some work on the home here. Feeling so good today. The rehearsals sound like they are going well. I’m glad you have something good to look forward to on the 20th…I think I’ll plan something so I can ignore the other event. Still cold but sun is shining here. Time for more purging! Hugs!
Claudia says
So glad to hear you’re feeling better, Linda! Yay!
I will have nothing to do with ‘event’ – I will not read about it. I will not watch it. I will not acknowledge it. #NotMyPresident
Shanna says
I love that line, too! And the mugs are adorable.
Claudia says
Aren’t they the best? I love the graphic design, which is simple and beautiful.
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Will NEVER be my president (small p). (Which made me laugh when I typed that.) It isn’t that I don’t respect the office, I just do not respect anything about the idiot who will be in it. Or, will he be? I’m assuming trump tower will be his oval (gilded) office.
The mugs are fantastic!!!! Our furnace went out at 5:15 last night. With the fireplace on, and a small portable fireplace type heater, we were able to make it through the night. It only got down to 28* outside, so we were quite thankful it wasn’t LAST week!! Furnace guy here first thing this morning and the glorious heat is filling the house. The things we take for granted!!
Have a wonderful day. Bet it will be fun to see how far the production has come since last you saw it!!
Claudia says
Oh no to the furnace going out! When that happens here, we have no options except space heaters – no fireplace. But if the power goes out, then there’s just no heat or electricity. We’d love a wood burning stove for just that reason. Glad you’re back up and running.

Love those mugs…perfect for your cottage! Raining here…laying low…caught a horrible cold…yuck. Hoping to catch up on some reading….watching Sherlock. I bet it will be fun to see how much progress has been made on the production. Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Oh, sorry to hear about your cold! That’s no fun. I’m just about ready to head on over to the theater to see what’s happening!
Wendy T says
Claudia, I bet the hot chocolate was especially satisfying drinking from your most appropriate mugs!
Claudia says
It was! (It would be even more satisfying if it wasn’t with almond milk! But I’m doing the best I can to go vegan.)
Nancy in PA says
Claudia, have you tried Trader Joe’s vegan marshmallows yet? They’re delicious, and reasonably priced, compared to other brands.
Claudia says
Oh, I haven’t seen them! I’ll check them out on my next day off – thanks, Nancy!

Love your TKAM mugs! From my days as a [part-time] dept store bridal registry consultant [in the 80s] I can tell they’re high quality too. The “lips” on the mugs are rounded AND the walls are thicker than average – these are both signs of above-average/high-quality porcelains/ceramics. Tis positively weird – the things I remember from the very extensive training I got on that job. Just the sight of X will trigger memories of workshops, field trips, training sessions on you name it – china, crystal, flatware, linens, housewares, small appliances, bedding. PS – as I said before, it’s probably just desperately-wishful thinking on my part, or even an overactive imagination – but I still have an odd feeling about the inauguration. With all we know [and even more we don’t know] about the Butternut Squash’s background, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that something new could pop up to spoil all his nice plans. Now wouldn’t that just be a big old darned shame? Stay toasty, my friend… ☃️
Claudia says
You know a lot about these things, Janet! Good to know they are high quality. That coupled with the Hey, Boo message makes me very happy!
I hope your odd feeling is on the money, Janet. Wouldn’t that be beautiful?? Butternut Squash??? LOVE it!
Janet in Rochester says
Just read SENILE CHEETO on Twitter – GOOD one! There are a LOT of very funny, very creative, very SMART people out there. From many countries too – continues to amaze me. 💛
Claudia says
LOVE that one! True, true!
Monica says
Claudia, your job sounds exciting.
I’m glad you got back safely.
Love the mugs, Boo!
Claudia says
Thank you, Monica! I’m having to do a great deal of ‘killing time’ today, which makes me restless. I find I’m missing my husband!
Nancy in PA says
The mugs are beautiful.
I loved the line “Hey, Boo.” I loved, also, when Atticus addressed him as Arthur. It was such a touching, enlightening moment, for the children and for the reader.
Claudia says
Yes, when he calls him Arthur…even more tears!
