Thanks for all of the IKEA support, my friends! You are the best. I now have two blinds on the way to me at the cheapest price to be found on eBay; courtesy of a link sent by Diane, a reader. Meredith found one in Tampa – so that makes three! I can get by with three. Would I like four? Yes. But, hey, I’m thrilled with three. I don’t claim to know what goes into a decision to discontinue an item, but a quick google search of Emmie Roll-Up Blinds found lots of blog posts about them and lots of fans. So, it begs the question: Why? Maybe IKEA is coming back with something similar but different? Who knows? Anyway, as I told Meredith, if I put out a call to my readers, something should turn up…and it did.
Still coughing, sometimes for what seems like hours, still blowing my nose. But I am better than I was a few days ago. Nevertheless, this cold is a miserable one. Since I have bad allergies, my sinuses are usually already inflamed, so something like this hits me with a double-whammy. And, having just gone through antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease, I wonder if my immune system was a little weakened. Not sure about that, of course. But, as a rule, I avoid antibiotics and rarely use them. For the Lyme, of course, they were a no-brainer.
Today? A quick trip home. There and back in one day. This is the only day I can get away and I have to check in at the house, pick up our mail, and get more dog food. Next Monday, my day off, is the day I have to move from the hotel to the apartment. Days off haven’t been a whole lot of fun lately.
I’m afraid to see the state of the garden, as I’ve had to rely on Mother Nature to water it and we’ve had very little rain. I imagine the porch plants might have seen their last days, as well. Gosh, it is so hard for someone like me to leave them for a chunk of time with no one to water them. I feel like I’m pulling the plug on them. But that’s what I had to do.
So, I’m bracing myself for what I will see as I head up the driveway. Based on what I’m observing around here, that will also include lots of leaves on the ground. I might rake a little, check the gutters, run a couple of errands and then head back to Hartford.
Scout is going to be awfully confused.
Home? Then back to that hotel? What???
Happy Thursday.

Glad you are on the mend. Safe travels!

Thanks, Leslie Anne!

I’m looking forward to hearing how Dame Scout handles the day and also what you find at home! Glad you’re feeling better.
Enjoy your time.

Lots of leaves, withered zinnias because there’s been very little rain. Dead hanging plants, but the impatiens are hanging in there as are the morning glories.

So glad the blinds issue is taken care of – know you are thrilled to find some with a little help from your friends!
I always worry about my garden too when leaving on an extended trip. Right now I’m home and should get out there and work on the overgrown shrubs – but I have a hip/leg problem so instead am getting PT almost daily for a couple of weeks – oh, darn, everything appears to be wearing out at this age!
Hugs – Mary

Some things are doing well, others not so well. The rivers are the lowest I’ve ever seen them here. Not enough rain. Apparently the 24 hour rain we got in Hartford didn’t come to my little cottage.
pam in illinois says
Glad you found some blinds! There is no IKEA close to me or I would have checked. Although a Chicago road trip might have been fun.
Claudia says
Aw, that’s sweet of you, Pam.
Linda @ A La Carte says
Hoping someone can find the 4th shade for you! Glad you are getting a quick trip home but yes it is hard to run in and then run out! When I had to be gone from home so much I lost many of my potted plants and it was always sad! I have managed to save one house plant by leaving it with family to water but can’t do that with everything and for sure nothing in the ground. Glad you are feeling a bit better and I do believe a round of antibiotics does leave your immune system down but as you say it was something you had to do! Take care and hugs to you and Scout!

The potted impatiens are doing surprisingly well. I’m going to water the indoor plants and water the chicken wire fence garden twice. But the zinnias are withering due to lack of rain.
Vera says
Be safe on the road Claudia!! Hope Dame Scout is ok with it all – I’m sure it is confusing for her. Sorry your cold is lingering on…healing wishes coming your way.
Claudia says
Thank you, Vera!

Quite a busy day for you today…and Scout. Hope you find all things in good condition. I would imagine that Lyme disease might affect your immune system….perhaps making you more susceptible to colds, flu. I would imagine there’s still a lot “they” don’t know yet. Safe travels! ;)
Claudia says
Thank you, Donnamae!
Chris k in Wisconsin says
Safe travels on your trip home! Is Don able to go w/ you? I thought maybe Thurs. was his day off… I bet Scout has many smiles when she has HOME in her sights. She will likely be a bit confused when it is time to leave again, but she seems to feel safe in her new setting, too. I am happy to hear you are feeling better. The coughing is always the hardest to endure.
Hope all is well at home! We have leaves turning and some falling, but the temps have been in the low 70’s and upper 60’s. However, supposed to only get up to 48* on Saturday!! Yikes!
Claudia says
It has been his day off, but not this week. Wouldn’t you know it?

Our area set a record for Sept. rainfall this year and there’s no end in sight. Glad you’re feeling better Claudia. Hope your plants and flowers are holding on. Maybe Scout will be so glad to be home for a few hours she’ll decide leaving isn’t so bad as long as she’s with mom or dad. Take care and don’t work too hard my friend.
Claudia says
I’ve never seen our rivers so low. Very, very little rain here. There has been a bit more in Hartford and I was hoping it would have rained here as well. Darn!
Nancy Blue Moon says
Poor Scout might be a bit confused what with visiting home today and moving to the apartment on Monday..hopefully she will adjust quickly..Be safe on the road today and give us a report on how things are at home..
Claudia says
I think she’s going to be more than a bit confused. She was very happy to be here, but she can tell I’m not settling in, so she’s edgy.
Janet in Rochester says
Hope you’re able to find a fourth blind soon. Dontcha just hate it when something you like is discontinued? I know business is all about change but does it HAVE to be? Why discontinue a popular well-selling item just to make room for something else that may not sell well at all? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…” comes to mind. Hope you feel much better very soon too, Claudia. It stinks having to carry on when all you want is to be home with your own blankie. But Scout will take good care of you, I know.
Claudia says
I know….why? It’s functional, lots of customers buy it, so why discontinue it???
Jane Price says
You need a day off!!! Moving, errands….doesn’t constitute a day off.

Claudia says
I agree, and the week after that, I have to come home again! My last day off, I was sick. What’s wrong with this picture?
Melanie says
So now you’re “moving” again (into an apartment this time)…how long will you be gone? I’m like you – rarely take antibiotics – only when absolutely necessary. Of course, with Lyme, definitely necessary. I hope you are boosting up your immune system with healthy eating and plenty of sleep! xoxo
