Our white flowering bush, which I at one time knew the name of, is abundant with blossoms this year. It looks like something from the Spirea family. Some previous owner of the house planted it down by the road and it blossoms in the springtime. Oh, pretty.
Overgrown is a word that seems inadequate to describe the state of things here at the cottage. Don has been good about keeping up with the mowing. It’s a full time job in the spring as we have lots of grass on this almost 2 acre property. I didn’t get around to mulching the big garden bed before I left and it shows. Clover and other unknown weeds are everywhere. Yikes. I have lots and lots of work to do around here.
Today is windy after three days of rain and storms out here in the East.
I can’t wait to get outside.
Happy to be home.
Happy to be with my husband and my little scamp, Scout.
Opening night was a big success, with a wonderfully responsive audience. The biggest treat for me was seeing a former colleague from my days as a faculty member at Boston University. Jacques Cartier headed the directing faculty when I was there and I was the coach on several of his productions. I liked him enormously – he is a keenly intelligent director. But here’s the serendipitous thing: Hartford Stage is beginning its 50th Anniversary Season this fall and Jacques was the guy who started it all. He founded Hartford Stage. So he was the honored guest for opening night. When I stood in front of him at the pre-show reception, he did a triple-take. (I hadn’t seen him in twenty years!)
Lovely. Old friends, new friends, happy actors, happy director. And now, home.
Happy Sunday.
Congratulations on a job well done Claudia! Happy to hear that Opening Night was a great success. Welcome home to your loving family and your abundant weeds. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and you’ll be able to tackle them in time.
We finally have had a bout of rain, so needed and much appreciated. Today, we have a bit of reprieve until this afternoon. Our weeds are now abundant as well, though they were under control until the rain started! Oh well, the grass is green and lush and the flowers have finally bloomed! I asked for rain, I got rain!!
So did we!
Your white bush is a Bridal Veil Spirea. I have three but they are already done blooming.
Glad you are home. Have a great day!!! At least with the rain the weeds should be easy to pull.

I suspected that is what it was – the branches on mine don’t hang down as much as other Bridal Veils that I’ve seen, but now that I look more closely, that’s indeed what it is. Thanks, Pam.
Hi, Claudia! I have that same bush at the end of our driveway and I have always known it as “bridal wreath”.
What a successful trip you have had. It has to have been very fulfilling. Cleaning up the gardens is always a lot of work also, but quite fulfilling in a different manner. Bet Don & Scout are beyond thrilled to have you home with them.
Enjoy your time tidying up your yard and getting the gardens and flowers moving along. I think I recall you said you might plant a few veggies this year?? Certainly prime time to get those in, too. Enjoy your time at home!!
I don’t think I’ll plant veggies. We have so many rabbits and deer around here, until I can afford to really close in a vegetable garden, I’ll probably hold off.
It is always so good to be home…no matter how far you roam. Serene Sunday…
Just got in from mowing, Sherry. Exhausted!
What a wonderfully rewarding adventure!!
Appreciation for the journey, the friends and your family when you came home!!
Enjoy!!
I will, Suzan.
Happy Sunday indeed! It sounds like the opening was a great success! Congratulations! And now you are home with Scout and Don and have projects to do – sounds like the beginning of a busy and happy week. Welcome home, Claudia!
Lots of projects ahead – including some deep cleaning inside the house!
Welcome Home!!
Judy
Thanks, Judy!
Just as Dorothy said..”There’s No Place Like Home”..Enjoy!
I will, Nancy.
So glad you are home and that opening night went well! Enjoy your outdoor time today~` I’m off to a cookout with my besties!!!
Linda
Have fun, Linda!
So glad you are home and I bet Don and Miss Scout are even happier to have you home than you are to be there. I saw Mom today and she said Hi Daughter, well that is something to celebrate as I was thinking lately she had no clue who I am.
Hugs to you,
Mere
Well, that’s a good sign, Mer. We’ll take whatever positive things we can get.
xo
Claudia, I bet you were so happy to be home again. With you and don working together on the yard…it won’t take so long to whip it into shape. Have some fun together. xoxo,Susie
We will, Susie!
So happy you are home Claudia and the weather is so lovely. Glad all went well. I’ll bet Scout was doing circles, and Don too.
Scout was happy. So was Don!
Glad to hear you are home safe and sound and that opening night was a lovely success. Take it easy today – rest, rest, rest! The yard can wait until later this week. :-)
Well, of course I didn’t rest! I’ve weeded a bit, mowed, swiffered and vacuumed. I’m tired!
Hi! Welcome home and congrats on opening nite! I think that bush is called bridal veil? It’s beautiful. So, guess I know what you’ll be doing for a couple of days…weeds….they keep us humble! ;)
So many weeds – everywhere I look!
So lovely to be at home again, especially with the knowledge of a job well done. Congratulations, Claudia. Now to the garden, those weeds don’t wait for anyone!
My Mom always called those bushes bridal wreath spirea, and dug out 2 from her garden or our first little house 30 years ago. I loved the way the petals fell like confetti when the wind blew. Glad you’re home with your loved ones.
Good Afternoon Claudia, Congratulations on a brilliant First Night, you must be over the moon.
I would say take it slowly, tidy your garden a little at a time, but I know you won’t as you are such
a busy bee.
Isn’t it just lovely to be home.
Enjoy your day,
Best Wishes to you,
Daphne
