Ice, Car Problems, & The Tour

March 23, 2024 at 8:17 am by Claudia

We had some snow falling overnight, which turned into freezing rain. Don had a gig that was north of here – over an hour and a half away – so the trip home was dangerous and took him twice as long, Visibility was bad, he was worried about black ice…just dreadful. I warned him about it when he called to tell me he was leaving the venue. The whole evening started off wrong. He had just left the house and was about a mile away when his car jerked and started making terrible noises. He called me to tell me that he was turning around. I gave him my car keys and we loaded all of his equipment into my car and off he went.

His car sounded terrible. This is not what we need right now.

Anyway, he’s safe. My car is safe. And the rain continues.

More egg cups:

On the left: a sweet little egg cup that a reader sent to me. Love the colors.

Center: an egg cup from Prague – a gift from Don.

Right: an egg cup from Holland. It’s marked on the bottom. I believe this one is also from my mom.

Two double egg cups made of glass.

On the left, a jadeite egg cup. I believe I found this one locally.

On the right, a glass egg cup in white and orange. I found this one locally, as well. I was taken by the color combination and the fact that it was made of glass. No mark. Would this technically be milk glass? I’m thinking it is.

And, in case you’ve been missing them, here’s a photo of Chloe and Derek (the bear.)

It’s a miserable day out there, so we’re staying home. Reading and starting a puzzle sounds good to me.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Glad Don got home safely last evening. This weather is crazy. We got more snow yesterday then we’ve had all winter. Hopefully it will warm up and melt.

Love the Jadeite egg cup. Chloe looks so cute with Derek who matches her hat perfectly. Hugs, Elaine

ugh … sorry you and don had ice and car troubles. hope the ice soon melts and the car fix is not a big hassle or expense. very glad don made it safely to the gig and back home!

if i had to choose, the dutch chicken is my favorite from today, but all the egg cups are lovely.

chloe and derek are sure cute and color-coordinated.

glad you have books and puzzles to enjoy, especially when the weather is not to your liking.

most of the snow and ice is gone here, just a few patches in lower areas. and it is cold here, too. no puzzles, but do have a book (as you’ve heard) …. starting the epilogue of “war and peace” today. that is slightly less than 100 pages in this edition so will finish it likely next week and then miss it very much. “a gentleman in moscow” is ahead.

first, the usual morning chores and also need to go outside to pick up empty corn cobs. threw out a bunch of dried corn when we saw nine deer on the trail behind my parents’ backyard after our own dinner; most of the deer skittered back a ways, but two hardly moved as i talked to them and threw out the corn, then stayed to eat a while and a couple more joined them. absolutely beautiful to see. :) also yesterday, i was filling the tray feeder in the morning and obviously in my own thoughts because i did not hear the soft thud made when earl jumps off the roof onto the deck railing. i turned to go back inside, then screamed for finding earl less than two feet from me (i could have reached out and touched him)! i apologized, then started walking to the door and earl jumped down onto the deck. scared me and i am sure i scared him, too! such a little sweetie, but i don’t want him to lose his instincts to avoid people. wild(life) times here … haha.

    okay. time for those chores.

hope you, don and everyone else have a wonderful weekend and stay safe!

I love the jadeite cup. I’ve always been interested in jadeite, but don’t have any. Wish I had started a collection. I do have a collection of various colors of carnival glass passed down through the generations.

I’m glad Don got to his venue and back home again safely. Hope the problem with his car isn’t too costly.

With all the light reflections on the right side Chloe and Derek look like they are walking down a city street.

We had a coastal storm with very heavy rain that started last evening. Thankfully, there are no leaks. After two of the Nor’easters this winter I found water stains on the ceiling. The rain has finally stopped, but there are wind advisories for this evening. First torrential rain, then wind… not a good combination for the trees.

Some days were made for staying home and this is one for me. (It IS sunny, just bloody cold!) So, back to the basement after checking in with a few friends like you! I love the egg cup from Holland. Very different and interesting!

I’m so glad Don made it home safely. I hope the truck repairs are relatively simple ones and not expensive. I can imagine you were pretty concerned.

    Have a wonderful “inside day.”

Don’s trip didn’t start out good at all…so glad he made it to the venue, and then home, safely!
We had a lot of rain last night, but should be clearing soon. I’m picking the egg cup from Holland as my favorite today. The jadeite one is nice, too… I’ve always loved the color. Today’s a great day for reading and working on a puzzle…stay warm!

Sorry to hear about the car troubles…hope it’s nothing serious. And I’m glad Don made it to his venue and back safe and sound. There is nothing scarier than black ice.

Sounds like a good day to huddle inside. It’s sunny here…the roads are clear, but it’s white out there. More snow tomorrow changing to a two day rain event…happy happy joy joy. (My sarcasm is showing). I know I keep saying it, but we do need the moisture.

Hope you have an enjoyable day! ( meant sincerely!) ;)

Glad Don is safe but sorry about the state of his car. Hope it isn’t too expensive to fix…

I echo commenters’ comments about Derek and Chloe matching. I would love to see an egg cup/Blythe photo match-up!

Wet weekend for me. Reading and puzzles sound great but I’m so behind in getting the taxes done. So, I’m teaching the younger daughter how to do hers this afternoon.

Oh no car problems. Just glad Don got home safely. Your collection of egg cups is really stunning and I’m so glad you are sharing them each year. Chloe is adorable. My allergies have gone bonkers and I’ve had headaches all week. This too shall pass but until then….ugh!

I’m happy to hear that Don arrived home safely but sad to hear there may be an issue with his car. A scary trip home – icy roads and freezing rain are always. my fear in the Winter.

We’re having our 2nd Winter here today. After a very Spring like season for months, suddenly the snow arrived on the 1st day of actual Spring. It should melt soon and we do hope this will help with the predicted forest fires again this year. Hopefully we’ll get some good rain as well.

    Enjoy a peaceful Sunday!

    X Chy

Yes, I hope the moisture helps! We had hardly any snow this winter, just the one big storm. But we did have a lot of rain.

      Stay safe, Chy.

Chloe photo is just darling. And I love her name by the way.

I also love the ‘concept’/design of a DOUBLE egg cup! And the shape of the Delft sort of defies the conventional molds.

So sorry you’re having car trouble. I hope it won’t cost you a lot of money for repairs.

My ancient, lumbering, full-size (wreck of a) car of 25 years sits too much without getting driven due to my homebound nature/circumstances; and, when we got in it last week with a warmer day, we discovered the air conditioning has quit working. I simply MUST have filtered, cooled air for my asthma when out in heat and humidity of a Southern Calif summer. Last thing I need is for my breathing to accelerate. Like what the heck, though, is THAT gonna cost to fix (can’t even consider taking it into a shop right now although we have a little-bit of time yet to save some money for the repair or, God forbid, a replacement [my husband says the car isn’t worth it]). These kinds of expenses for the pocketbook are bad hits as well for the soul and mind (like what ELSE is gonna happen; why is it always something; I do SO ‘get’ that feeling and worry of, “Crap, NOW what?!”).

Maybe Sunday-today is a better day for you and Don. I hope so. Stay warm. Just awful, troubling weather you’re having! We had steady rain here yesterday early from 4am-9am but it wasn’t a deluge.

Well, we’re definitely in the Crap! stage. It sounds terrible. I don’t know if it’s the transmission or worse. We’ll have it towed to the gas station tomorrow.

      Stay safe, Vicki.

    Hi there,
I’m so glad that Don made it home safely. Sounds scary to drive in those kind of conditions, especially because it was dark.
We had more than a foot of snow since Thursday. It felt like sand hitting my face while I was taking a walk last night. We are so glad for the moisture as other places in Alberta have had snow and we have had such a dry winter.
I love Chloe’s hat. I’d like to order a couple of things for my dolls. But I’m stressed about the tooth I lost. I’m stressed about too much. My grandma was a worrier, I’m a worrier too.
I hope that your husband’s truck isn’t in serious trouble. Take care, keep warm.

He has an SUV, not a truck. We’re going to have it towed to the garage and then we’ll see what happens, Irene.

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
