We are iced in until Monday – not completely iced in as Don managed to salt a bit late yesterday afternoon. The precipitation was non-stop for nearly 48 hours. One of our gutters has partially detached from the porch roof, which is another headache. But, and this is a big but…we didn’t lose power. Our county was really hit hard by this storm and over half the residents were/are without power. Over half – especially north of us. Combine no power with frigid, below zero temperatures and you can imagine how difficult this is for so many. I looked at the outage map and there was an outage just south of us and just to the east of us. We are very lucky.
It looks like a magical winter wonderland out there because none of the ice has melted, therefore every twig and branch is still encased in ice. It will stay that way until Monday, when we’ll finally go above freezing.
We were prepared. I had filled big bowls with water, we had several portable drink containers filled with water, and the tub was full. Just before I started writing this, I drained everything. And the lights flickered many times. I’m grateful for heat and power.
I used the time to finish this. Boy oh boy, that blue background drove me nuts! And, wouldn’t you know it? One piece was missing. I know I didn’t drop it but I crawled all over the floor looking for it just in case I did.
I posted this on my IG Stories, right after I finished:
Zoe speaks truth.
Finally, Sophie in new overalls which came in yesterday’s mail which Don insisted on fetching despite the slippery conditions (I would have left it there overnight.)
These are made by mamzelle.lylou on IG, aka Karine, who lives in France. I must share this detail: the overalls are lined with the print fabric used in the blouse. That kind of detail is amazing. There’s also a little green jacket which I’ll share in another post. (I already had the hat.)
Today, Don is making me sing one of his songs for a demo he’s recording. Something I did all the time when I was younger without blinking an eye – sing semi-professionally – fills me with anxiety these days. Especially now. Nonetheless, I promised I would, so I’ll go ahead with it. Wish me luck!
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

So glad you have power may you continue too.
The detail of the clothes is amazing, what detail..what talent the lady has. I especially like the composition of the photo. The background etc. I hope you understand what I mean.
Take Care and Stay Safe,
Kaye

Thanks so much, Kaye.
That photo was taken on our little spinet desk.
Stay safe!

That puzzle is beautiful! We’ve had a number of brand-new puzzles with missing pieces. I remember the first time that happened I thought, how can that be? I know it’s not a big deal but it’s still a little maddening.
I love all your girls and their clothes are to die for. I’m still trying to figure out their size. Are they about the size (height) of a Barbie doll? They’re all just precious.
Good luck with your recording today and stay warm and safe.
Claudia says
It is a little maddening for sure!
They are just under 12 inches tall, Cathy. They are so darned cute!
Stay safe.

Ice ice baby indeed! So glad you have heat and power. Your puzzle is very pretty. Zoe looks so much like my daughter, Heather when she was younger. Sophie looks amazing in her new outfit! And that hat! Very cool. I am also curious about the size of the girls. Best of luck with the singing.
Claudia says
Just under 12 inches tall, April. With big heads!
Stay safe.
Shanna says
Cuties! From what you’ve written about size, I’m seeing them as, at 12 inches, about 3-1/2 heads tall? (3-1/2″ head, 8-inch bodies?) I know that photos can mess with scale a bit.
Claudia says
I haven’t measured the head. But they’re just under 12 inches tall. I’d guess that the head is 3 1/2″ to 4″.
Stay safe, Shanna.

Oh those bibs! I was so tall and thin as a teenager and wore an amazing pair of denim bibs in the 70’s. I can remember so well how they fit and I doubt a have single picture of me wearing them. Your girls certainly have an enviable wardrobe! I hope you post a link to your song recording with Don a so many of your followers would love to hear. Stay safe and warm.
Claudia says
I had a pair, too, and I wore them all the time. I wish I still had them – they wouldn’t fit me any longer, but I’d love to see them again. No link to the song. It’s purely for demo purposes, Sherry.
Stay safe.

Every house we bought we had a fireplace and all wood burner in case…saved us many times especially in 1978 in Ohio…no electric for a week…now in Florida so far no worries…but who knows…I do live on Gulf so mild here…daughter flight cancelled Thursday night…the one tonight delayed…we are hoping she can get home to Indy tonight…stay warm…many of my puzzles are missing pieces…I keep little flashlight with me as the rug I have under the table allows them blend in…I could never do the ones you do though…love them…
Claudia says
I”ve been down in your area during at least 2 hurricanes. My sister used to live right on the Gulf in Tarpon Springs and that hurricane was devastating and very frightening.
Hope your daughter can get home tonight, Brenda!
Stay safe.
Brendab says
The area where I live has not had Hurricane in years and years…always around us… now when I lived in S Carolina I had many like that….have to say the frigid ice and snow that lasted other places I lived and grew up awful…however this area is just an unusual area of Florida …she is on plane…she does so great in this nice weather during the winter time…people here don’t seem to go through the winter blahs…lol
Claudia says
My sister has lived there for 30 years – believe me, there have been hurricanes there. But I don’t think she’s had any damage except for the No Name Storm, which was really a hurricane but occurred out of the official hurricane season. It was terrifying and I happened to be visiting at the time.

Brendab says
Last major hurricane here 1921
Knock on wood
I don’t want one lol
Claudia says
We were in what would have been a major hurricane years ago, but it wasn’t in the official hurricane season. They called it the No Name Storm. But it was a hurricane. So it might not be on the books, but it happened. And I was there.
Fingers crossed, indeed!

I’m so glad your power stayed on! I woke up thinking about you and hoping for good news. My heart aches for everyone suffering through the cold.
The care that goes into sewing those teeny outfits just amazes me. Shopping for 1:3 scale fabric and accessories is challenge enough. 1:6? I can’t even! And those doll-sized shoes and boots, wow. Every outfit is cuter than the one before. I’m loving it!
Today I’m hoping for smooth flight schedules since our future DIL is coming back from Nashville. I suspect she’ll have plenty of time to catch up on new job “homework” in four different airports! There’s always a silver lining.
It’s always good to sing. Scary, sometimes, but fun.
Claudia says
I hope flights are back up and running, Roxie. We’re very happy that we never lost power. It’s still very, very cold. Can’t wait for a bit of a thaw on Monday.
Stay safe.

The details on the doll clothing; just amazing.
Oh, this frigid weather of yours! My husband has tried to explain to me about the danger of an icy landscape. Be safe!
Claudia says
It’s very dangerous out there, especially on our hilly property.
Thanks, Vicki.
Stay safe.

Congratulations on finishing the puzzle. After last year’s no-power and, for us, no-running-water days during the Texas freeze, we were grateful to be warm and snug. My enjoyment was compromised, though, by something I witnessed Tuesday. My husband had driven me into Austin for an ophthalmologist’s appointment, where my eyes would be dilated. On the way back, a road we needed was blocked as Austin police officers stood guard while city sanitation workers tore down tents of a homeless encampment, pitching tents, bedding, and cooking gear into dumpsters. I know it’s a problem dealt with everywhere, but we knew this freeze and sleet were due beginning the next night, and the timing seemed heartless and cruel. Austin does not have enough shelters. Last night, Austin television stations were advertising locations of “warming stations.” I wonder how many of those people walking away from that site had access to a television to tell them where to find those warming stations.
Claudia says
I am appalled. How could they do that? Have we lost all compassion? I’m so sorry you had to see that. I’m so sorry that we would do that to our fellow man.
Stay safe Linda.
Chris K in WI says
As much as I dislike “s” (the 4 letter word), ICE is just horrible. Sometimes snow can even afford a bit a traction when driving or walking, but ice allows none of that. So glad you are staying in. To fall in those conditions would be awful. It is still so very very cold here. Hopefully a bit of a warm up this coming week.
Sweet new outfit!! Stay warm and take care!!
Claudia says
Ice is terrifying. Beautiful, but terrifying. Don has gone out to salt and run to the store but I won’t go out there until it melts tomorrow.
Stay safe, Chris.
jeanie says
So glad you didn’t lose power and hopefully, not a lot of tree damage from the ice. It’s so surprisingly heavy. Three cheers on the puzzle and more! I’d rather have 20 feet of snow than an inch of ice. Stay safe!
Claudia says
I cannot wait for this crap to melt, but it will take a while, Jeanie.
Stay safe.
