I love you guys.
Just had to say it. I love writing this blog but I don’t kid myself. It wouldn’t be what it is without you. Truly.
One of the perks of moving to WordPress was the chance to use threaded comments (which I believe you can now do on Blogger, as well.) I get to respond to your comment, you get the chance to respond to my comment, a commenter can respond to another commenter…you get the picture. Threaded comments = a dialogue. For someone like me, a “solitary person who is chatty,” threaded comments are a dream come true. I can respond to your comment directly, without sending an email.
We can chat.
Not only do I love writing my posts and sharing content with you, I love responding to your comments. I read every comment, sometimes more than once. I would assume most bloggers read all the comments on their posts, but I know of a few that don’t. To each his own and all that, but I confess a very real bewilderment at that choice. Even if I was one of the Big Bloggers, with hundreds of comments on each post, I would still read them all. And, though it would take more time, respond to them. Because without you in the mix, why am I blogging?
I cannot tell you enough how much I treasure all of you. Thank you for your wise, sometimes funny, always heartfelt words. I loved reading about your plans for Thanksgiving – about your thoughts on holidays and perfection and friends and family. Thank you for sharing a peek into your lives with me. Thank you for the support you give me in times of stress or worry or sadness. Thank you for simply being there, on the other end of the virtual world.
Sometimes I write a post that comes from such a deep place in my heart that I know I am taking a risk by hitting ‘publish.’ After publishing, I re-read it throughout the day, at times questioning whether I should have written it in the first place. That’s rare, but it happens.
But then, I see that you ‘get it.’ You understand. I see it in the comments you leave for me. You may not always agree with me but your point of view is always expressed with respect. In the case of my recent post about Shedding the Negative, I found myself comforted and enriched by your thoughts on that subject. I learned a few things.
I got an email about that post that made me cry. Don’t worry, it was in a good way. I cried because for that person at that time, the words I used made a difference. They were what she needed to hear that day. The post I worried about ended up being a source of comfort and clarity. The words I was guided to write that day helped someone.
I can’t ask for anything more.
We are in this life to help each other. To choose love instead of fear or hate or any one of a number of negative and harmful emotions. It’s as simple as that.
I learn from you. I am a better person because of you.
I’m so grateful and thankful for all of you. For the enrichment you have given to my life. For the chance to share my thoughts with you, whether every day run-of-the-mill thoughts or silly thoughts or the thoughts that come from deep within me that must be expressed.
And a big thank you from the other two writers that occasionally contribute to this blog:
Blessings to you all. Stay safe. Travel with care. Know that you are loved.
Happy Wednesday.

So thankful for you as well Claudia. I was without internet the past 2 days … which quickly reminded me of just how much I look forward to reading your words each day. You challenge me to open my mind to new things … whether it’s a new idea, a new way to display a collection, or a new book. You’ve spoken so often about “To Kill A Mockingbird” that I finally watched it for the very first time the other night! I LOVED IT … so much so that I’ve now ordered the book. Thank you for being a valuable new friend … what you are doing here makes a difference. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Don and Scout :)
Claudia says
I’m so happy to hear you loved To Kill A Mockingbird! You will absolutely love the book.

You have a great Thanks giving too.
You are truly faithful at posting. Every day about this time I set down with a cup of coffee or tea and check my email and favorite blogs. You are always there, usually just posted minutes ago.
Years ago I lived in a trailer park and got to be good friends with the lady next door. The trailers were only about 15 feet apart and our kitchens were at the same end of out trailers. My kitchen window was right across from her kitchen window. We joked a lot about being able to pass the salt.
In the mornings about this time I’d set down with a cup of tea and go through the mail or check sales flyers and make my grocery list. The first quiet time of the day. Husband off to work, kids off to school. Whew – time to relax a minute and gear down. Her too.
If one of us set the tea pot in the window, the other knew to come on over. Perhaps even a cookie was involved.
That’s the same warm fuzzy I get now when I set down with a cup of tea and click on your blog.
I know we have never met. But there you are, about the same time, every day. “Good morning Claudia, help yourself to a cookie.” :)
Smiles to you.
Linda
Claudia says
Oh, thank you so much, Linda. This warms my heart. I’ll take that cookie, thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Linda P. says
I love that teapot in the window idea. If I had a neighbor close enough to see it, I’d use that signal.

Dear Claudia, I truly love how you write from your heart. Writing is healing for me and I think it is for you too. My husband can’t understand my need to write but it’s probably one of the reasons our marriage has survived so well. I get out all my feelings, frustrations and joy. So many times the subjects you write about touch me deeply. I love hearing back from you on the comments and reading the comments from others. Yours is the only blog I check ever day without fail for a reason. You have a talent for touching hearts and I thank you for being so open with us. Looking forward to reading more from you. It’s going to be cold in Florida for Thanksgiving but 80 again by Sunday.
Claudia says
Thank you, Janie. My dad said there were tornado watches in his neck of the woods yesterday! Happy Thanksgiving!
Janie F. says
According to the radar a big storm was approaching our county and just as it would have hit our area it separated and didn’t touch our county and then came back together on the other side of the county. As far as I know that has never happened here before but I’m so glad it did. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Claudia!

Well, if your intent was to bring tears to my eyes…you were successful! Your posts can be deep, funny, informative…but, always, always from the heart. Now, I have to dry my eyes, and attempt to bake a pumpkin pie! May you and Don and Scout have a wonderful Thanksgiving! ;)
Claudia says
Send some of that pumpkin pie over our way, Donna. I’m trying (rather unsuccessfully) to diet! Happy Thanksgiving!
Donnamae says
You do know the holidays are not the time to diet….my pie, definitely not lo-cal! ;)

Chris k in Wisconsin says
Every single morning…. around 10:05…. I spend time with you when I receive your email. I have to tell you that one of the (many) things I love about your posts is that they are almost always done the same day. You may have worked on it for a while/ days, but I always love when you mention the weather, the day or date, because I know I am really hearing from you in “real time”. I don’t know if that makes sense….. but I guess what I am trying to say is your blog is more real to me than are many others. You don’t post one new mantel display after another after another, or 167 different things to do with burlap or a mason jar. Certainly fun some days to fly through those bloggers posts, but when I get your post, it is almost always about something I can truly enjoy, and more often than not, I can identify with your thoughts that day. And so many days I read your post more than once. I rarely read through the comments on other blogs, either, but with yours I almost always read through them, and I even feel that I kind of know some of the commenters!!!! Is that a bit odd?? :-)
Claudia says
99% of the time, I write the post that morning, Chris. SInce I blog daily, writing it ahead of time doesn’t make sense to me. I like to use how I feel that morning to spark that day’s post. If I had to post about decorating EVERY day, I’d go mad! Don’t get me wrong, I love decorating….just not every day!
Not odd at all. I feel like we’re a bit of a family here. That makes me happy.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Chris.

Ranee says
Thank you, Claudia, for your blog. I look forward to reading all of your posts and find that I rarely disagree with your thoughts. Sometimes, it feels as though you’ve gotten into my head and extracted something that’s been on my mind for awhile, making it even more personal for me and grateful I am not alone in my thoughts. It’s a crazy world that we all live in and it’s comforting to find someone who tries to live well, in spite of it, and shares with the rest of us. I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving…
Claudia says
Thank you for your kind words, Ranee. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Betsy says
Happy Thanksgiving to the three of you too! I’m so glad to have found your blog through Meredith’s. Have a lovely day tomorrow and know that we are all thankful for your blog and the chance to have a chat with you, too.

Happy Thanksgiving, dear Laura!
Judy Clark says
I am so thankful for you too Claudia. Wish you and Don and Scout were closer and I’d take you all to my sister’s home for the day. Talk about a Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving – there will be about 30 there and so much food that it’s ridiculous!! Scout and Bella could play in the back yard till they wore each other out. About that time, it’d be time for all of the desserts – YUM!!
This will be John’s first outing with a bunch of people and none of them have seen him since last Thanksgiving, so I really don’t know what kind of day it will be.
Happy Thanksgiving to you three!
Love, Judy
Claudia says
I could use a dash of Norman Rockwell, Judy! Something tells me I would love spending time with your family. John will be fine, he will be surrounded by love and support.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and John. Please give him my love.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Sally!
Janet in Rochester says
The comments here are respectful because you set that tone in your posts, Claudia. You have the “Tim Russert” gene. You have respect for varying points of view and make others feel comfortable about airing opposite or differing views, knowing that they will be respected. Hope you, Don and Miss Scout have a lovely quiet holiday. PS – I’m sure you already know it, but can I recommend “The Man That Came To Dinner?” Tour-de-force performance by the great Monty Woolley. And apparently, just to be IN this picture, Bette Davis happily took a supporting role!. :>)
Claudia says
Oh goodness, I love The Man Who Came to Dinner – both the movie and the play. (I’ve coached a production of the play.) It’s really wonderful, isn’t it?
Happy Thanksgiving, Janet – to you and your family.

Such a big thank-you to you all,Claudia! Enjoy your Thanksgiving!!
Claudia says
I’ll be here, Grace! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow! I discovered your blog this year and have enjoyed looking over your shoulder as you work and also as you read. Thanks for the introduction to the Inspector Gamache books. That’s not a genre I would have tried without your introduction, and I read them all. I’m missing them now, a bit.
Claudia says
I went through withdrawal when I finished the last Inspector Gamache book! I understand.
Happy Thanksgiving, LInda – to you and yours.

You are an important part of my morning routine and I am thankful that you so willingly share. I value your opinion, look forward to your book reviews and love looking at your photos. I do want to ask, have you started the new Lee Chilld? I’ve been holding off on buying it and have read some of the reviews, of course it’s a mixed bag of good and bad, but I do believe that you will be honest and I trust your opinion. Hope you have a peaceful, restful Thanksgiving.
Claudia says
I haven’t read it yet as I have two books from the library that I have to finish first. I’ve never been disappointed in one of Lee Child’s books, so I fully expect to enjoy this one!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
June says
I miss so much by not coming here everyday Claudia!!! To be truthful, I hardly get to blog much at all anymore because of some added responsibility with Landon right now, but whenever I do, I love connecting this way through this wonderful thing we call our blogs. I agree wholeheartedly with your words in this post. I read with thankfulness every message left by caring friends and sometimes new bloggers who are trying to make their ‘way in’ to our hearts through their newly formed blogs as well and feel grateful that they read mine and somehow connect to my heart. It seems that by the time I respond to all of them it is time to write another post and then it starts all over again :))) but for me, who has to be home everyday because I am Landon’s caregiver, it makes me feel connected. I am so grateful for it, like you are. Thank you for writing so eloquently just how I feel.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving dearest.
sending big squeezes today…
Claudia says
Thank you for your beautiful heart and your beautiful blog, my friend. We are lucky to have found this world of blogging – it has given us a connection to people all over the world – and a way in which to share our hearts.
Love to you and your family, June. Hugs to Landon. And a blessed and peaceful Thanksgiving to you and yours.

You said it best when you said without our readers why blog?! I love corresponding with my readers. I don’t use the threaded comments except for no reply commentors unless I have their direct email. But still I try to respond to each comment that is left. You do a great job of writing everyday and you are quite an encouragement. I tried writing everyday in October -man! That is hard for me. Hats off to you girl! Love reading here at MHC love the camaraderie. -Pat

I love the camaraderie too, Pat. And I love that you are a part of that. Thank you, my friend.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

This is my first blog comment ever and your entry today prompted me to make it. I found your blog a few months ago and have been following you ever since. I want to thank you for gifting all who follow you with your beautiful entries and heartfelt words. You drew me in with your beautiful pictures of Hartford. I live 24 miles east of there. When our local news is full of the violence in the city it is hard to remember that it also has so much beauty to offer. When I found out that you are a resident of my beloved and much-missed Hudson Valley it was icing on the cake! I have also suffered the untimely loss of a sibling and have spent many sleepless nights fretting over the health of a canine companion. And, last but far from least, I married the right man too! Oh boy! Maybe tomorrow after dinner I will break out the long-neglected dollhouse. Happy Thanksgiving Claudia. Arlene
Claudia says
Arlene, it’s so nice to meet you. Thank you so much for your kind words. We have much in common, you and I!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Arlene.

And I’m thankful for you, Claudia. Yours is one of the few blogs that I read every single day. You’re a fantastic writer, always coming up with engaging topics with some personal thoughts and feelings thrown in. Not to mention that I love your photos and snippets of your everyday life. I hope that you, Don, and Miss Scout have a wonderful, warm, and blessed day together. xoxo
Claudia says
Thank you, Melanie. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Don, and Scout. I really, really, enjoy reading your blog because it is written from your heart. Too many times I’m behind a day or two of reading. (We live on two acres, have chickens, a garden, two babies(yellow labs), I quilt, paint, and are involved with grown children.) So usually my comments are based on a previous post. But your blog is interesting, funny, loving, and down to earth. Keep writing. Blessings.
