In the City (In the Snow)

February 9, 2017 at 7:42 am by Claudia

I took a quick shot of the Broadhurst theater yesterday while on my way to the hotel. Pretty cool!

I’m in the city. The first rehearsal starts in a few hours. I came in early, as you know, because of the snow storm that is hitting the east coast. Last night, while watching the weather forecast, I realized that getting back home today would be close to impossible. Buses would be delayed and maybe cancelled, trains would be late and since we’re supposed to get a lot of snow dumped on the city and back home in the country, I didn’t want Don trying to drive to the train station (which is at least a half an hour from our cottage) in the middle of the storm. So I decided to stay one more night. Quite a pricey first rehearsal!

But it’s safer. And that’s the most important thing.

The hotel is very nice and it’s only about six blocks from the rehearsal space. And the bathtub! It’s very deep and perfect for a bath. A heavenly experience!

I’m having trouble uploading photos to the blog, most likely because of the demands on WiFi here at the hotel. It took forever to get the first photo loaded, so I may stop at that.

Hurrah! I managed to get another photo uploaded! This was the view out my hotel window last night. This morning it’s a mass of white, as snow blows everywhere. It’s going to be quite a slog to the rehearsal studios.

And another! Patience is a virtue.

My newest Nancy Drew arrived the other day. I now have 12. I think there are something like 26 books that have cover illustrations by Russell H. Tandy.

Okay. Have to go get ready and grab some breakfast.

Happy Thursday.

Enjoy your city stay. I’m quite jealous of you right now! That nighttime scene is so beautiful…fills me with longing for the city and my Booboos!

Staying safe is important and so is enjoying the view and the lights and snow is also a good thing. Hope your first rehearsal goes well. Love the newest Nancy Drew cover!! We have some sunshine today and that makes me feel better. Hugs!

I read all the old Nancy Drews in the dusky green covers–no dust jackets or illustrations. My sister had the whole set. Those and the Bobbsey Twins. Who knows where they all went!

After that, I moved on to Trixie Belden and used paper route money to buy each book from that set. Did you ever read those?

Love the Nancy Drew. I remember when I read my first Nancy Drew (1962) and had to look up her “titian hair” to see what it meant. When I went back and re-read ALL of the original books, Nancy was blond. Good times.

Why did they change her hair color, I wonder?

i distinctly remember this particular nancy drew you just got, about the mystery in the attic – it might have been the first one i ever read (and my first library book) because i have such a memory of it (i think this was 50-55 years ago …?). i never had my own copies; i just read whatever our public library had. i too read the bobbsey books, then moved on to trixie belden (and then cherry ames and other “career-girl” books). –suz in ohio

I never read Nancy Drew. I don’t remember reading sets of books, but I do remember Wrinkle in Time, and all of Louise May Alcott’s books, especially Little Women. Then I quickly moved on to Jane Austen in middle school.

    Have a good first rehearsal.

Love the Nancy Drew book with cover! Although I have collected almost the whole set of vintage Nancy Drew books, only a very few have those covers! Need to start looking for those. If I find any, I can always give my books without covers to my granddaughters. They are huge fans of Nancy Drew! Take care, my friend, on those slick roads.

Been following the weather all morning on Weather Channel etc. Very happy to NOT be included on this one. Yuck. Heavy wet snow & wind & whiteouts. Time to stay inside & be warm. Makes me want to start a big kettle of something that can simmer away on the rangetop from hours. Or maybe I’ll get the rice cooker out & steam up a whole 6 cups of brown rice for the weekend. Nothing could be easier. I make a mean vegetable fried rice. Sprouts, onions, peas, carrots, roasted red peppers. Can steam the veggies after the rice is ready. Yum. Not really vegetarian though because I scramble an egg in my fried rice. I could probably never be a complete vegetarian because I LOVE eggs. Some vegetarians do eat eggs, right? No living thing suffers, and chickens would still be laying eggs regardless. I read about Martha Stewart keeping chickens and I know, if I had land of my own, that I’d love to do that. Talk about fresh! Very 1850s back-on-the-farm. And I’ve always considered myself a frustrated farmer. Enjoy that bathtub, stay bundled up & safe travels home! Peace. ❄️❄️

There are lacto/ovo vegetarians who eat eggs and dairy products. Vegans don’t eat dairy products along with no meat, etc.

      Thanks, Janet.

Then I guess I could be a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Could easily give up meat but dairy & eggs would be much tougher. Do most vegetarians eat fish? There’s so much that’s healthy in fish. It seems logical to assume that we’re meant to eat seafood & fish. ⭐️

If you’re a true vegetarian, you’re going for a plant based diet. Not eating animals or fish. As Paul McCartney said at one point: Nothing with a face. In my case, it took a while to get there, but I truly cannot eat anything that has/had a face.

All the healthy things in seafood and fish are in other plant based foods and oils. I’ve never felt that I’m lacking anything and I get a lot of protein and vitamins in my food. xoxo

The view you have is beautiful! It amazing that you are having all that snow where on the other side of the world in South Australia we are having a heatwave and can only dream of being cold. Will there be somewhere we can watch this performance? Safe travelling in the snow 😀

Not that I know of – it will be on Broadway. But if it’s a hit, I’m sure there will be touring productions.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
