Is It Spring Yet?

January 17, 2018 at 9:09 am by Claudia

Don’t even.

There’s at least 8 or 9 inches out there and it’s still coming down.

And it looks like it’s heavy and wet.

We have to shovel and snowblow all of this. Oh, and remember – there is a huge, thick slab of ice the size of a small pond where I normally park my car. It’s so thick we can’t chop it up. Trying to get from the cars into the house is like avoiding a minefield.

Something tells me this winter is not going to be an easy one.

So we’re waiting it out at the moment. When it looks like the snow is tapering off, we’ll head outside. Oh, joy.

Vegan macarons from our local vegan eatery. Don brought them home yesterday.

They’re gone now.

I have a new nephew:

Meet Hank.

Hank is an Irishdoodle – which is a combination of an Irish Setter/Poodle.

I cannot stand it, he’s so cute! Mere found an ad in the paper that intrigued her and on the weekend, the whole family went to see the litter of puppies and Hank came home with them. Everyone is in love with him, including Little Z, who called last night and shouted out, “I have a new puppy and his name is Hank!!”

You can read more about it on Mere’s latest post. I’m so happy for them. And dare I say that we are a proud aunt and uncle? Look at those eyebrows! And that brown nose! And those green eyes. Scout had green eyes.

Okay. I have to have some oatmeal to fortify myself for the Big Dig.

Happy Wednesday.

Goodness – it all looks so beautiful. Too bad you can’t just hunker down and stay snug until the Spring.

Congratulations on the new family addition. He sure is adorable.

He is. As for the snow, it’s beautiful, but it’s a pain. We have a long uphill driveway and parking area and cleaning it all up is a LOT of work!

Hank is adorable, congratulations to everyone. The snow looks beautiful, we have subzero temps with only a dusting of snow. Normally enjoy winter, but these sub zero temperatures are something else this year. Take care shoveling, etc, take breaks enjoy hot chocolate!

Yes, we’ve had both the subzero and the snow and it’s only mid-January! I pray that it gets milder for the rest of the winter, but so far, it doesn’t look that way.

Careful with the shoveling…. still snowing here, but not nearly as much as what I am sure you folks way up north are getting. Husband is out with JD snow tractor right now and still light flakes coming down.

Thank goodness we bought the snowblower a few years ago. That helps. But it’s so big that I can’t handle it, so I’ll have to resort to shoveling when Don is away.

I truly wish that I COULD see some beauty in that “stuff”, but I just don’t. I really do try, but I just can’t get to it. Oh, well. One day closer to spring. So glad that Don is there with you through this storm to help in the removal. I’m sure he will fret when it comes again and he isn’t there. ugh.

I guess this is when we all dig into the nooks and crannies in our houses and do some purging. Or sew or knit or find something to occupy our time. To every season…… hope your Wednesday gets clearer as the day goes on, and you can get it all over with soon.

I hate to say it… even though we have wind chills in the single digits…
but we’re turning into a desert. we haven’t had any precip of any kind
in over 3 months now. well. if you don’t count 1/10th of an inch in Nov.
you feel about winter the way I do here when we have triple digit heat
for what seems like forever. even HOUSTON is having snow. how weird!
and you are being inundated with it.
    bless all our hearts. LOL
be careful in all that darling bean. here’s to it melting before you can shovel it. I know. “yeah right. ” right? :) xo

I hear you, I am SO over winter! We haven’t had snow like your area but the dangerous cold is bad enough. We’ve had actual temps below zero and that means wind chills even worse. I am done! Okay, can’t fix it so I wait. Funnily, Friday is supposed to be near 50 degrees here.

Hank is absolutely adorable. I checked out Mere’s post and her pictures. So cute, all of them.

Thank you Claudia, for posting each day and keeping it real. Sorry you have so much snow to shovel.

I am with you totally wanting this season to be done, finished and gone! We also got snow here in Maryland. Oh well, it’s a good day for reading and baking. I hope to decorate my Little Free Library later today and swap in some new books.

Not sure if you saw this article about butter tarts that is from The NYT’s Cooking page. I thought of you immediately!

Claudia, I know you and Don will be very careful with snow removal. My uncle threw out his back very badly (needed surgery) shoveling snow. He now over-winters in Florida…. I read about your sister’s new family member. Hank and Little Buddy will make a hilariously fun team now that each has found his best friend. I love macarons but have never had vegan ones. I bet they did go fast!

We’re as careful as we can be, but shoveling and snow blowing involves a lot of work. Nothing you can do about it!

I think Little Z is having a ball with his new ‘little brother!’

Our little bit of snow we got way before Christmas is melting away. I can see the gravel lane and the grass. We truly need moisture or the farmers will have a rough harvest. Hoping the lack of snow here will be replaced with some good rain in the Spring. Hope your snow goes quickly and can you enjoy some time outside before Don heads off!

I often have a treacherous walk from the house to my car due to areas of ice and snow cover. I always look for old ski poles at yard sales (usually $1 each) – they make the best walking sticks. They now do duty when walking in the woods, also.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
