Is That the Sun?

February 5, 2024 at 8:05 am by Claudia

We’ve had sunny skies for two days in a row and they’ll last through Wednesday. The difference this makes in a day is enormous. We’re so used to gray skies, rain, and heavy clouds that this little gift makes us very happy. Back to gray at the end of the week, but in the meantime, I’m really enjoying this.

We take my car in this morning for some minor repair work from the car accident. It will be done by late today or tomorrow.

One of my friends on the Blythe feed does a thing called “Flatlay Sunday.” A flatlay is a photo where a variety of things are arranged on a flat surface, usually with some sort of theme. All items must be placed flat against the surface. Then the photo is shot from above, looking down on the arrangement. She names a weekly theme. I don’t do it every week, but this week’s theme was “Play” which sparked an idea. (A lot of Blythe people have lots of little props scaled to Blythe size. I don’t, nor do I want to, which is why I usually avoid these things.)

Here it is:

Maeve is playing a little violin that Nina’s customizer included when she sent her to me. The piano is something Heidi gave me long ago.  That’s a tiny old music dictionary above the piano. And you are familiar with the deer, who, it turns out, can play the piano.

Maeve is so beautiful.

This was laid out on the rug in the den.

Anything I can put together quickly is the only way for me to go these days. The younger Blythe lovers spend a lot of time on photography and some of their photos are simply gorgeous and truly imaginative. But after taking photos for the blog for nearly 16 years, much of it on a daily basis, I no longer go for perfection. It’s their turn.

We are loving All Creatures Great and Small. We watched two episodes last night. Only two more to go in this season. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this series is good for the soul.

I’m well into Wolf Hall, as well as The Poppy War, so I’m juggling two books at the same time.

Okay!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

hooray for sunshine and playing (clever flat-lay there, claudia)!

hope the car repairs are done quickly and completely and that the man (who caused the accident) and his insurance company do right for you.

no easy way for me to watch “all creatures great and small” on tv, but will add it to my long list of books to read. thank you.

the photo you shared yesterday of your mother and grandmother reminded me that a batch of photos should arrive here this week. talking with a cousin about trading family photos, receiving them through traditional mail, getting them scanned and ordered has taken a while, but i am very pleased as some of them are photos of my maternal grandparents together that i’ve never seen before (my maternal grandfather passed on much too young). ordered enough copies for my family, cousins and two aunts and am happy to be able to do that. and i have a nice frame and an open spot just waiting for copies of my own. :)

morning tasks done and will pick up some groceries this afternoon, otherwise i get to have an easy, quiet day … just the way i like things to be. grateful.

hope you, don and everyone has the kind of days you each like, too. stay safe.

    xo,
    kathy

Sunshine—Hallelujah! We have it, too. And it’s been a while even for the Sunshine State! It does wonders for our mood.
That violin, eeeeek! How tiny is that?

Not as tiny as the guitars I have in Don’s mini studio! The violin is twice the size of the guitars!

      Stay safe, Shanna.

I can see why you don’t do this often, but this result turned out well! Oh, All Creatures — so are you caught up or ahead? Last night’s was a tear jerker! We’ve been enjoying Astrid, which is remarkable and Funny Woman, which has just been delightful. I’m on my second time with that one, actually. Rick didn’t watch when I first did and I wanted him to see it and I was glad to watch with him!

No, we don’t want to go ahead. We missed last week’s episode, so we watched that and the current one. I’m getting a bit irked by PBS – at least Channel 13, our station – because they’ve begun to put a bubble on the screen with a picture advertising another PBS show. That’s what the networks do and why we don’t watch them. WHY is PBS doing it? (I’m not expecting you to know the answer, Jeanie!) People who watch PBS are different. They don’t need that stuff.

      Thanks, Jeanie.

      Stay safe.

We love “All Creatures Great and Small”, too. Sunday’s episode made me cry. I was hoping Mrs. Hall would hook up with Siegfried but Gerald is really in love with her. We’ve noticed the advertising of other shows and it is both distracting and annoying. Can’t wait for Helen and James to become parents. You must have really enjoyed the sunshine. We’re still waiting for our first snow storm. I know, I know, be careful what you wish for, lol. Nova Scotia is suffering the worst snow storm in two decades. Your little Blythe vignette is charming. Hugs, Elaine

I never expected her to hook up with Siegfried. A case of knowing someone too well…

      Thanks, Elaine.

Maeve doesn’t look too happy about Practice Time. I remember that exact face on my two through the years.

We, too, have been celebrating sunshine. Supposed to be 54* on Thurs. I wonder if this is to be our new normal with Global Warming.

I thought the episode of ACG&S this past Sunday was my favorite of the season so far. So sad there are only 2 more to watch.

Hope all works out well with the car. Take care!!

I always get sad, knowing there are limited episodes in a season. Then we have to wait another year.

Car is fixed and it looks good!

      Stay safe, Chris.

The sun has finally been making its appearance these past few days in Kansas City – what a difference it makes in my overall disposition!

It’s been a long while since I’ve checked out your blog. I was thrilled to “rediscover” it and see all the charm that pores out of your words and photos is still there! :) Life sometimes has a way of re-arranging our time, priorities & habits. I plan for MHC to get back into my mix of things to check in on frequently.

Being the “perfectionist” that I am, that would be “pours” not “pores”! Ha! I don’t think I can correct my comment so I’m just replying to myself! :)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
