Don is fetching our ornament bins from storage as I write this. Time to take down the tree.
It’s very cold here today and as I scanned the weather forecast, I noted the possibility of 3 – 5 inches of snow for Friday. That would be the first snow that wasn’t just a coating of snow/ice. We’re sort of excited.
Time to get salt.
Speaking of salt, our little hardware store closed. It has been there for years and years. The original owners were a well-known family in this community and they sold it a couple of years ago. I guess the new owner couldn’t make a go of it. We’re so sad. Now we have to drive 10 miles or more instead of the 2 miles we’re used to.
Our little town has become boring. It started with my friend Heidi closing her wonderful shop (remember, I used to work there part-time?) Now, there’s a pizzeria, an insurance agency or two, an accountant, a couple of small restaurants, and a yoga studio. No hardware, no pharmacy/drug store, no bookstore, no antique shop. It’s depressing.
Pippa helped me yesterday. She’s very bright and seems to like jigsaw puzzles, like her mom.
And the final product, finished this morning:
I always do 1000 piece puzzles and I didn’t realize until I started in on this one that I’d given Don a link for a 500 piece puzzle. Cockily, I thought I’d breeze through it. I was wrong. It was quite difficult!
Next up, the Jane Austen puzzle.
But first, taking down the decorations and then endless vacuuming because this tree is really dry.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

Dear Claudia — just read your instagram piece — honestly, how do some miscreants sleep at nite knowing they are followed by people who want to hear and believe every word that is said/written. can they not remember last year when we masked BUT had low infectious rates of influenza (at least in Ky) and many fewer deaths from flu. B/C masks are a good protection from disease/germs spreading anytime. While I’m ranting let me add — have you heard school age children complaining re: mask wearing???? Yeah, me neither — but here we have semi smart parents complaining re: schools w/mask requirements, trying to get mandates cancelled for schools. Whatever happened to common sense??? stay safe/healthy
Claudia says
I’ve never heard a kid complain about a mask. They just take it in stride. Thanks, Linda.
Stay safe.

It looks like our weather has come your way. Bundle up. Sad to see small towns get even smaller. And I love the puzzle. Big smiles!
Claudia says
Thank you, Jeanie.
I was so cold last night I couldn’t get to sleep for a while!
Stay safe.

It is sad how our small towns and villages are diminishing. With prices rising, so many delays and problems with inventory, added in with employment challenges, it obviously makes it so much harder to compete with the bigger/ box stores. Losing a hardware store is a hard one to have happen. So many times one just needs a package of screws, some different nails, sandpaper, etc. and to just run into town is almost a given. Sometimes the prices are higher than at those gigantic hardware centers, but the convenience can’t be forgotten. I know sometimes the hubs gets involved with a project and on one day can make 5 or 6 trips to the hardware store as he encounters little things. Hopefully someone will come along and re-open that one or a new one.
We haven’t started de-decorating yet. Maybe this week sometime. I hate to lose the lights!! Hope you had a good day getting it done. Take care.

It makes me very sad. This just isn’t the same place it was when we first moved here.
Stay safe, Chris.

what a sweet thought in that puzzle.
snow (especially the first of the season) is beautiful, but good luck with the cold weather.
always sad to hear about shops closing. :( i have a fondness for hardware stores … there’s one in my family history. also, as you know, i now work in a hardware store and am grateful to be there, enjoying it … though am also a bit overwhelmed by all the learning. anyway, prayers for business owners and everyone else.
happy, safe tuesday.

There’s too much inventory in Home Depot and Lowes – overstimulating!
Stay safe, Annette.
