Monday: Both of us woke up too early. And we’re headed to Walgreen’s this morning to get our Covid vaccine and a flu shot. If I get my usual very mild reaction, I’ll fall asleep this afternoon – which, to be honest, I do nearly every day. But the reaction nap is always a bit deeper.
Let’s see, what’s new? Our washer is leaking again, our smart tv suddenly stopped supporting our apps (Amazon Prime Video and Netflix) and fountain pen ink leaked onto my chair. That’s how the day went yesterday.
The leaking from the washer isn’t too bad, so we’re holding off a bit on calling the repair company. But, of course, it’s troublesome. The smart tv thing is maddening. I’ve been following a thread on Reddit about it and it increasingly sounds like our older Sony Bravias are no longer supporting the apps. Ours is at least nine years old. Really? It was fine on Friday. Saturday? The apps were gone. Sony wants us to spend money on a new smart television.
Hey, Sony? I’m not buying a new television, this one works perfectly fine, but you can be sure that the next tv we buy will NOT be from Sony.
Just ordered an Amazon Firestick.
And I accidentally dripped fountain pen ink on my chair and spent about two hours with Q-tips and rubbing alcohol, doing my best to get the stains out. Luckily, the chair fabric is in a busy print so it’s less obvious. And I did manage to get much of it – but not all – out of the fabric.
When it rains, it pours.
My friend Tania does this thing on the Blythe feed called FlatLaySunday. A flat lay is some sort of arrangement based on a theme where the subject matter is laying flat on some sort of surface. You take the photo from above. I don’t usually take part, though I have a couple of times. Frankly, I’m too lazy to put much time into it. Unless an easy and quick idea comes to me that I can accomplish in less than five minutes, I don’t do it. Yesterday, I had one of those easy and quick ideas.
The theme was Hello, Autumn.
Miranda on our bed spread, which has been tucked away for the summer, with three oak leaves from one of our trees that I saved and put into a McCoy bowl. It’s been surprisingly popular, probably because of the beauty of Miranda. I’m not one to cram the flat lay with all sorts of stuff. I like it simple.
Okay. Have to make more coffee before we trudge off to get jabbed.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

Such annoyances! My washer leaks at times, too. Sorry about the ink leak on your chair, but glad you were able to get most of it out. It is concerning that consumers are often “expected” to replace perfectly good items to support newer technology…our landfills won’t be able to support that at some point. After several hot days our weather is cooling a bit. I’m ready to see more fall leaves like you have in your flat lay. Hoping tomorrow’s debate is a good one.
Claudia says
You’re absolutely right, Barrie. Why should I replace a very good television when I have no need to? Sony, of course, wants more of my money, but they’re not going to get it!
I’m not sure I can handle the debate, though I think Don will want to watch it. I get too nervous!
Stay safe.
kathy in iowa says
hope the leaks have stopped, that solutions will be found for the washing machine and tv/apps connection and the jabs go easy for you and don.
here’s to getting crummy stuff out of the way and days getting easier, better.

ps … i love the bobble hat that miranda is wearing (might try to knit one) and especially her tunic … the colors and the pattern.
Claudia says
The bobble hats were made by a Blythe friend who lives in NYC. I have three of them. My favorite Blythe hats.
Stay safe, Kathy.

Technology can be so frustrating. My cable TV company sent new equipment to install as our old equipment was now out of date. So with the help of my son, we figured out how to connect that. Unfortunately, for some reason they changed all of the channel numbers so it has taken me quite awhile to search for all of my programs and make a list of where they are now. Silly to complain about but really annoying!
Claudia says
I love that we’re supposed to do the work for them nowadays. We have a new backup battery to install for our alarm system. WE have to install it, which is annoying!
Stay safe, Ellen.
Betsy Rogers says
Hi Claudia!
I got my jab on Saturday and felt feverish yesterday afternoon. But am fine now! The welcome fall layout is sweet… the girls always make it so…. That’s what we love about them!
I feel for your tech and leak issues.. I get more and more annoyed at Everything needing to be viewable on the tiny phone screen…. so now the big screens are impossibly large print whether you like it or not…. and you have to scroll and scroll…. can’t there be an “optional” setting?
Enough complaining!
Spilled ink is such an “old fashioned” problem…. but with the pattern on you chair… it just makes your spot more “loved” and full of history. We can’t keep time from passing… try as we might!
I hope you both have only a slight reaction. It’s worth it for the protection!
Claudia says
Have you tried an iPad, Betsy? I hardly ever used mine until I realized it was much more comfortable to read!
I had given up on the ink disappearing, and it hasn’t totally disappeared, but it’s barely noticeable and seems to be getting better as the day goes on. How can that be?
Stay safe, Betsy.
Linda MacKean says
That would infuriate me so much if my smart tv stopped working. I have an older tv (not Sony) and it is still working well. A fire stick seems like a good fix. Miranda is a beauty with that hair!!
Claudia says
The tv works, just not the ‘smart’ part of it.
Stay safe, Linda.
Donnamae says
Sorry to hear about the fountain pen leak on your chair. Still…it’s cool that you use a fountain pen. May I ask for what? I remember those leaks all to well…but it’s been decades since I even had a fountain pen.
That was a terrible response from Sony. Sounds like Sony’s doing planned obsolescence to me. The fire stick should work just fine I would think.
Hope the jabs go well…Monday afternoon naps always sound like a good idea. Enjoy! ;)
Claudia says
I use it for my planner and journal.
Sony is absolutely doing planned obsolescence. It makes me furious.
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Kay in SE Wisconsin says
Gosh, “when it rains it pours” indeed. Regarding your TV, was going to say “Amazon Firestick” before I got mid-blog. We use it for our upstairs TV (which, ironically, we really don’t watch). Started when the neighborhood AT&T was upgraded last winter which required them rewiring with a new box and wires in the basement up to the TV. Our bundle includes WIFI, and DirecTV after AT&T discontinued U-verse and we opted not to wire the upstairs TV . We’d use Firestick downstairs too if we didn’t need good internet for the home office I detest DirecTV.
Your “flat” photograph (very cute, by the way) reminds me of an article I saw about Gen Z’s latest travel craze. They’re photographing their travel accessories in those TSA trays. “Airport Tray Aesthetic” it’s called and they artistically lay out and photograph wallet, cosmetics, ear buds, whatever – ideally everything one color. Can you imagine anything goofier?
Out of long habit, early October is flu shot time for us. It’s from pre-retirement days when the student nurses would come to each university building and administer them. Don’t know about getting Covid yet. Hate the reaction I usually get Last winter was the Shingles series, pneumonia and one other Thinking RSV would be the pertinent one this winter at my age.
Definitely feeling like fall here and I’m loving it. Our furnace even went on the other night when it dipped into the 40’s!
Take care,
Kay
Claudia says
We have good internet throughout the house, but in this case, it’s the age of the television. This smart tv isn’t all that old (to me) so this should not be an issue. The TSA thing makes me laugh. October is when we usually get our vaccinations, too, but with these new variations, I thought we should get it now. If you haven’t had RSV, you should get it. Chris, one my readers, had RSV last year and said she’s never been sicker. And RSV is a one time shot.
Stay safe, Kay.
Elaine in Toronto says
What a lovely representation of Fall. Miranda is so cute. You’ve inspired me to do something similar with Jessie and Walter. Time to find some fall clothes for them. Hope your jabs go well and you don’t have a bad reaction. Our flu and covid vaccines aren’t available yet but we always get them sometime in October. I’m looking forward to the debate tomorrow night and then the Colbert show live right after. Should be very interesting. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
I will see as to watching the debate. I’d almost rather watch the highlights. I cannot stand listening to him. But we may end up watching.
Stay safe, Elaine.
Mindy says
Claudia, our not so smart tv hasn’t handled the apps so I have to hook up my laptop with an adapter to see HULU and the other add ons. It is maddening. But we won’t be buying another tv until this one poops out on us.
Claudia says
It IS maddening! But the television itself works beautifully, so like you, we will not be buying another tv.
Stay safe, Mindy.
