It’s no secret that I love the color red.
When I was a little girl, I would come home from the Bookmobile carrying a pile of books with red covers.
There are pops of red all over my house. I have red shades in the kitchen, a red bench with red and white and tan cushions. I have a chair in the living room with red and white checked cushions, a little lamp with a red shade. In the den? A red and green and tan floor rug, red pillows on the sofa and a crocheted throw with lots of red in it.
I’ve somehow managed to make red work with the sherbety McCoy colors that I love so much.
Red is also a big part of my blog design.
Being a ‘Winter’, I look good in red, especially deeper, richer reds.
And oh boy, do I love a pair of red shoes. When I look back at my life in shoes, some of my absolute favorites were red. A few years back, I bought a pair of MaryJane type shoes in red. I bought them online, so it was a bit of a risk. They never fit right. I was so disappointed! And as I have grown older, comfort is my first requirement in a pair of shoes. Arch support and cushioning and comfort; that’s what I go for.
Yesterday, Don and I went on an errand. We were looking for a frame or two. So we drove south to Michael’s where we found two out of the three frames we were looking for. I suggested that we go to HomeGoods (in the same shopping center) to look for the third frame. Right next door to HomeGoods was a shoe store and I remarked to Don that they looked like they carried what I call ‘healthy shoes.’ Comfortable, designed for ease, well made, etc. He suggested we go inside. Since I am constantly complaining about not having enough shoes that fit (my feet have grown a size in the last few years,) he was thinking that maybe I could find some snow boots that fit. My boots are too small, yet I wear them every time I shovel. Quite frankly, spending money on boots doesn’t thrill me and I keep hoping I can make it through this winter using my old boots. So boots? Not on my Want List.
Then I saw these:
Insert sound of Choirs of Angels.
Oh my goodness.
They had them in my size.
They are made in Italy and they have cushioning like you wouldn’t believe. They have great arch support. They are beautifully made. (And they also make me even taller than I already am.)
Don made me get them. I would have said no because they weren’t on sale. They weren’t at a deep discount. Too frivolous. Too many other things we could use that money for.
He wouldn’t listen. He said that he loved them and that I clearly loved them. And that I needed shoes that fit. That made me happy.
These shoes make me happy. They make me smile.
They’re my favorite shoes, ever.
I feel guilty for buying them. Every time I start to say something about that, Don shushes me. He says, “Just say I love my new shoes and I deserve them.”
So okay. “I love my new shoes and I deserve them.”
But what about the money we spent?
Sssh. “I love my new shoes and I deserve them.”
Don took this photo with his iPhone. While I’d love a pair of red cowboy boots, they aren’t the most comfortable things for me to wear with their narrow toe box, so I guess these are my version of red cowboy boots.
Who would have thought I’d be writing about a pair of shoes?
But they’re red shoes.
Enough said.
By the way, I have a couple of sponsored posts coming up in the next week (both for things I recommend highly), as well as two book reviews – somehow all of these commitments ended up having due dates around the same time. Just giving you a heads up.
Link to Spring Step’s website, where you can order the shoes.
Happy Wednesday.
Claudia, love, love, love the shoes! I am nosy. Having the same problems with shoe fit that you do, I would love to know the brand. Pretty please?
Of course! They are made by Spring Step. The website is http://www.springstepshoes.com – and this particular style is Burbank and it’s a Closed Back Clog. Go for it!
LOVE THEM!!!!! So glad you gave the brand…I’ve had Spring Step shoes in the past and they are sooooooooooo comfortable. I’m with you all the way — comfort is so important and, like you, my shoe size has grown over the past several years. What a great find — congratulations. And, yes, you do deserve them.
They remind me of a pair of Dansko shoes that I once had, but they are much, much lighter!
adorable!
Thanks, Carolyn Marie! I think so too.
Love the shoes and yes you DO deserve them
Thank you, Cindy!
Okay, you had me at beautiful shoes that are also comfortable. I am also always in search of the Holy Grail of shoes so I will need to hustle me up a pair. Is it near the Home Goods in Newburgh?
Next to the HomeGoods in MIddletown, Tina. It’s a store called Groos (full of comfortable shoes!)
Tina, Don and Noble are having lunch together today. Love that!
Claudia…this post just made me smile! I love your new shoes, and I think we can all identify with that feeling of finding something so perfect! Still smiling…
Me too! I even considered putting them on my cake plate and covering them with a glass dome!
Love red shoes; they go with everything. And brighten every outfit. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
Red shoes = Happiness.
I too have problems finding comfortable shoes Claudia. Will definitely check out that web site. Love the shoes! I guess most women feel guilty about spending money on themselves. I ordered 2 pairs of eyeglasses but only because they had a great sale. Kind of overcast and a bit cool here today.
Glad to know you ordered those eyeglasses, Janie! Frigid once again today.
Love the new shoes :) I am a shoe freak and have hundreds of pair, I guess you could say it is my weakness. Good for Don telling you it was ok to have some comfy shoes. You deserve them :)
I used to buy lots of shoes until we had such a strict budget. So this is really an indulgence for me!
I love your RED shoes!! Even though they’re Italian – they look German!!
The fact that they’re extra comfortable makes them a 100% Winner!
Very nice!! Enjoy :-}}
I will, Suzan, thank you!
Love those shoes…
Balisha
So glad you like them too, Balisha!
I’ve no words for those shoes! So good you bought them! I’m happy with you!!!!!! :-) Red is my favourite colour too.
It makes you smile, doesn’t it? Red is happy.
Oh what cute shoes !!! And in my favorite color red. CUTE, CUTE, CUTE !!!!!!!!
I have found that Clark Shoes have the arch support and padding that my feet need after years of abuse in spiked heels. I have a pair of sandals, ballet flats, black loafers and brown leather boots and I can walk for hours and experience NO PAIN. Clark’s are somewhat pricey but you can get them for almost half the price thru QVC. I ordered a pair of red clogs thru QVC but sadly had to return them because they were too large. Rule of thumb, order your regular size and don’t try to over think the size if you wear socks to keep your feet warm.
Don is right, you deserve those shoes and you deserve to walk around pain free.
Vanessa
I like Clark shoes as well, Vanessa. I’ve bought several pairs in the past. Very well made and good for the feet!
Claudia, you are indeed a girl after my own Heart! LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes! You never buy your self anything, that you can possible live without.
So I say,Hooray for a very nice Husband, and Hooray for You! -Judy A
Don is a sweetie and I appreciate him more and more, Judy!
I have new red Bass Weejuns I just got for Christmas. I also have red spiky high heels and red cowgirl boots. Those are my three favorite pairs of shoes! – Oh, and red Clark Clogs!
Your red shoes are awesome!
Red is the best, isn’t it, Leslie Anne?
Adorable..Love the red..Bright and cheery..
They sure make me smile, Missy!
Love the pretty shoes, Claudia! And am I the only one (besides you!) who is in love with Don? What a honey! That’s the REAL story here…..
I think there are a lot of people who are in love with Don, Nancy. He’s that kind of guy!
I love your red shoes…and you DO deserve them! Brilliant! That embroidery (is it embroidery.) is to die for! Are they Clark’s? Or Dansko? Must know! Don is a sweetheart for insisting! ;)
Donna, scroll up to my first comment reply. I give all the information there.
Thanks! Evidently a lot of folks like your new red shoes! ;)
I adore your red shoes! Like Don says, just accept them and let go of the money thing. Everyone deserves a good well-fitting pair of shoes. I wear Dansko’s and Merrel shoes a lot. These days, it’s about comfort (of course looks count too) Love your new red shoes! Enjoy them and be free of guilt. Keep clicking your heels and repeat, “All good things come to me and l am worthy of abundance in every area of my life.”
I like Danksos but they can be heavy – For some reason Merrel shoes don’t feel good on me, weird, I know, because so many people love them.
The absolutely best red shoes and you look GREAT wearing them. Love them. WOW.
Joy
Yay for red shoes, Joy!
Those are adorable Claudia, I want some! Your post reminded me of a pair of red shoes I had when I was 15 or 16 — red suede Capezio Mary Janes, with a purple suede heart on top of each one and crepe platform soles. Good gosh, I loved them. I’ve got to go shoe shopping!
I scoured the miniature show for toilets, not a single one, let alone a floral one. I didn’t realize/remember that the show is mostly artisan pieces. Well of course, wonderful stuff you can’t find in a shop or online. Duh.
Happy Wednesday!
Well of course, I forgot that – artisan pieces. Thanks for looking! Did you buy anything for you?
I went to the quilt show first and was rather pooped out and tired of crowds by the time I got to the miniature show. I was actually tired of buying things – a freak occurrence LOL. I did buy myself a salt glazed crock with a doggy on it. So many of the items were really expensive. There was a vendor with Shaker furniture that I’d love to have some day. (There were lots of little accessory things at the show … foods to put in the kitchen, etc., and supplies to make things – fabric, wallpapers and such but no regular furniture or appliance items.)
I did see a white toilet online with a wooden seat, maple colored like your bathroom sink top? Don’t know if that’s a possibility for you or not.
Love the RED shoes, they are so cute and look so comfy. Don was right YOU do deserve them! Brrrrrrr 7 degrees on the way into work this morning in Maryland. Will someone PLEASE turn the heat up!
Please! It’s not only cold here today but it’s windy!
P.S. Nothing like a great pair of red shoes to make you giggle with delight! I once had a leather white jacket with red piping trim (in the 80’s) along with a red pair of shoes and matching purse.
Funny how we all remember our red pieces of clothing and red shoes!
Oh, they truly made me actually smile when I saw them. They are wonderful. Comfortable shoes … nothing better for helping in making a good day into a GREAT day!! I love Clarks’s also, as well as Rykas. I remember when I could just buy a cheap pair of shoes because they were cute. Now it is ALL about the comfort.
And you DO deserve them, and you know you will wear them for years to come. We love to beat ourselves up over spending money on ourselves, don’t we? I bet there is a spring in your step when you put them on!! :-)
I remember buying flats with absolutely no arch support and being able to wear them all day long!
My feet have changed over the last year as well. I was forced to throw away pretty much ALL of my shoes. I’m currently working with one pair of sneakers that are comfortable…but ugly. And one pair of very nice leather boots – that look good woth a skirt… but I don’t wear skirts regularly. That’s it. I REALLY need some new shoes!
:(
Yes, I’ve had to get rid of all my shoes and often am found in my sneakers. I have one pair of shortish black boots that fit and now these shoes. I need more, too!
I bought the same shoes a couple of weeks ago! I love them, too!
I bet you do, Jenny!
Oh, the shoes. The Shoes!! They are wonderful and just think how happy they made all the readers of your blog! I used to have more shoes than anything when I was in high school, college and young single. But then I got married and moved to Hawaii and no one wears shoes there. Just different styles of flip flops. We call them slippers. Then we moved back to the mainland, I got older, and buy only comfortable shoes now. Not as much fun buying trainers, etc. When I do find ones I like and they are comfortable, I usually buy two pairs. Or more in different colors. So I have lots of choices. But I don’t have a pair like yours. Do they come in green? I’m a Autumn.
They have other colors, but not a lot in stock, according to the website. I’m waiting for the blue pair to come back in stock. It’s a really gorgeous blue.
Wow! I love those shoes.
You do deserve them! Every once in a while we need to splurge on something wonderful. Too much ordinary, “settled for”, not loved, doesn’t bring joy. Those are joyful shoes!
nancyr
They ARE joyful!
Your new shoes are supercute! I love them!! Red is my favorite color too ( well & pink :0) ). I have a pair of red MaryJanes that I found through Zappos. They feel great & I wear an 11! Anyway so happy for you because Don is a wonderful husband & so happy for your feet because your new shoes are comfy~~~!
XO, Linda
I found my red MaryJane’s through Zappos, too. I was just stubborn and was SURE they would eventually work. But they didn’t.
I love those shoes! I adore red too, I’m an April baby and red is my colour but for me it is the comfort. I own several pairs of Swedish Chef’s Clogs and they are very comfy but not Red! Gorgeous, and you do deserve them.
Every girl needs a red shoe or two, Sue!
Claudia, those are the best shoes EVER. I could maybe, oh my, give up my Birkenstocks for a pair of those. The thing with Birkenstocks is they are hard to find in a shoe shoe. Winter in MN is not the time for an open anything shoe.
A while ago all of my shoes started to feel snug. I thought They had shrunk or that my socks had gotten too big. I know, but those were the first ideas. I know now my feel have grown in length and width.
One place to shop for shoes/boots online is Zappos. Shipping is free and so is return postage. You can order as many as you like. try them on, and send back what doesn’t work.
Oh, I love my Birkenstocks, too. But those are confined to the spring and summer. Too cold here in the winter!
Totally cute!
Thanks, my friend!
I love your new shoes and you do deserve them. They are such happy shoes.
They ARE happy!
I love your red shoes and you deserve them!!! It’s been said before, but believe it!
Red’s my favorite color too!!! And Miss Bella’s of course, cause she’s just like moi!
Red is such a cheery color, Patricia!
Serious shoe envy here! And Claudia, shoes are a NECESSITY! Money is only good for spending. Push that guilt thing away
by thinking what a blessing you have in Don!
janeintx
I am blessed and I know it, Jane!
oh claudia, i love them!!! i may have to get a pair. the remind me of the german clogs i love to wear. and i love don for shhhhing you :)
It’s not the first time, Stacy!
LOVE THEM..Thank you Don for insisting she buy something for herself that she really needed..and deserved..and they have made her so happy!
He’s a good guy, Nancy. I’ll pass along your thank you!
You love your new shoes and you deserve them and they are so stinkin cute!!! Im jealous
They are too cute for words, Karen!
Listen just how happy we all are for you today. C an you feel the love ? :) Also, had to admit I rather gasped about those shoes… I too would have fallen in love. They are perfect. My next shoes must be red! They look fabulous on you
Get yourself some red shoe, Sue!
I love your new shoes. Red, sigh. And for some reason I thought of a line from the movie Chocolat, when the young daughter who’s having difficulty blending in with her peers, says to her free spirit mother (who wears red pumps), “Why can’t you wear black shoes like the other mothers.” :)
We have a DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) near the Home Goods store in our area, so I checked out their website initially thinking that may have been where you bought yours. I did see that you bought yours elsewhere, but wanted to let others know that DSW does carry them, and they’re a discount store if that helps.
I am very familiar with DSW, Laura. That’s where I buy most of my shoes!
Claudia, I love them, OMG red shoes!!!! Would they ship some to Canada? Sign me up!!
Hugs,
Mags
xx
Check the website, Mags – maybe they will ship to Canada!
http://www.springstepshoes.com
LOVE them (and you deserve them)! You read my mind by posting the link :D
Thanks so much, Debbie!
Those are a pair of shoes that have something to say for themselves, Claudia.
-Karen
They do. They’re saying: We were made for Claudia!
too cute, I would have got the purple ones, I have a thing for purple, lucky you do not live in Australia, they would have cost twice the price, so if you look at it that way, you really got a bargain
I like the purple ones, too. I checked the site and they aren’t available in my size.
Love the red shoes and you DO deserve them! So glad Don made you get them. You will enjoy wearing them for sure. I have trouble with my feet also and will check out Spring Shoes! Enjoy!!!
Check them out, Linda!
oh those shoes !!!! they are wonderful !!!!! New shoes make my world happy . hehehe
MIne too, Claudia!
I am so happy for you! Yes, you do deserve them. They are so beautiful. Love reading your blog and now love knowing someone else who loves red shoes. Sadly, I don’t have any right now but am going to keep looking! Yes, I do deserve them!!!! LOL
Yes you do, Dorothy!
When I was only 3 or 4 my father brought me back a pair of authentic (aka horribly expensive) red cowboy boots from a business trip to Texas. My mother was appalled, but I loved them and wore them constantly until I couldn’t get my feet into them. It’s one of my favorite childhood memories and I still can’t resist the occasional red shoe indulgence. Enjoy.
I envy you those red cowboy boots, Jeri!
No wonder you love these shoes! The Italians are centuries ahead of us when it comes to leather goods. You’ll get lots of comments on these beauties. PS – my favorite shoes ever were red too. However I peaked rather early… Mine were red lace-up shoes bought for the first day of kindergarten and if I’d known about it then, I’d have bronzed them. :>)
Too bad you don’t still have them, Janet!
Whenever I see people wearing shoes like this, I like them instantly! :)
Aw, thank you, Laurel!
we always say, “after 40 a woman can have an affair or buy red shoes!
I guess that’s why I chose the red shoes!
Those are just too cute. My feet have actually shrunk. Weird. Have fun in your new shoes. xo Laura
Wow – I think I’d rather my feet had shrunk – but what can I say? They are a size bigger.
Beautiful footwear and so you Claudia! Hope you walk many happy miles in them dear.
Deserve them? Nobody could more than you! I thought the price reasonable, especially as they are made in beautiful Italy!
Hugs from cold NC – Mary
I think the price is reasonable too – I rarely buy new shoes and when I do they have to be well-made and built to last.
Like everyone else, I love your new shoes! Gorgeous design and color. I checked the web site out of curiosity and saw the price though…nearly had a heart attack! I’ve never spent that much on a pair of shoes in my entire life. I know, I know…if they are that comfortable and you love them and you’ll wear them a lot, then it’s worth every penny. I’ll give you a heads up on another brand of shoes that are very comfy and well made: Propet. I have a pair of red suede Mary Jane shoes made by them, and I love them.
Inexpensive shoes have never done my feet any favors, Melanie. My feet can be a problem and so they must be clad in a well designed shoe built for support and comfort. Since I rarely, and I mean rarely, buy new shoes, the expense of this pair is balanced by how well they are made, the comfort they provide and the fact that they will last a long, long time. I can no longer get by with the less expensive shoes I used to buy. Too painful. So, I take a deep breath, and pay what is a very dear price to me so that I can have some comfort. But you can see why I wrestle with making that decision – money is very, very tight here.
I can’t tell you when the last time was that I bought any new clothes, either!
Shoes that give comfort, are cute and on top of that are RED are not a splurge — they are a necessity!
Comfort. I long for it as most of my shoes are either the wrong size or were inexpensive and hurt my feet. So these, though expensive to me, are worth it in the long run!
Comfort comes first for me too, Claudia, and aren’t you lucky to find it in these cute, RED shoes. Does this mean that you and Don will be starring in a remake of 1948’s “The Red Shoes”? You’ll be the ballerina, of course, but will Don be the mean impresario or the handsome composer?
They are bright and beautiful Claudia, and must put a cheerful spring into your step. I am happy for you and also because of the health benefits of good footwear. Good for both of you!
Wonderfully cheerful shoes, Claudia! Wear them in good health.
4-5 years ago DH encouraged me to buy red shoes. (my name is not Dorothy either) They have been used and used and used to the point where they are no longer beautiful or fit well. Perhaps some day there will be another pair of red shoes to brighten my days.
I love your new shoes. Enjoy. None of us live forever, enjoy the little things. We may not be flying off to Paris or have a home on Nantucket but darn it we can still have a lovely life. And they’re red, who could resist?
Claudia I love these shoes and especially because they are red….they are definitely “I have to have these” kind of shoes!!
