Ladybugs, Cupcakes & Baseball

October 19, 2012 at 9:37 am by Claudia

Yesterday was sunny and warm and beautiful. Today? Rainy and dark. Guess which one I prefer.

And before you ask, I have yet to shred.

I’ve read about this happening but this is my first experience with it. Swarming ladybugs. I took Scout for a walk around the yard yesterday and I kept getting dive-bombed by ladybugs! They are everywhere right now.

They seem to congregate by the kitchen door and along the front porch posts and railings.

I love ladybugs so I was delighted and fascinated. Enter Google. Apparently they do this in the fall as they are looking for a warm place to park themselves for the winter. Time to hibernate, my little ladybugs. Go ahead, use my porch, you can stay for free. They get in the house, of course, and while I love seeing them, they will die if they stay here, so I try to rescue them and put them back outside.

And just when I thought my plants had stopped blooming, look what I discovered:

A lovely little Clematis flower. That was a delightful surprise.

Don was in NYC yesterday and I knew he would be near Lincoln Center. That means he was near a favorite place of mine.

Sorry for the quality. It was dark outside. Yes, he brought me 3 Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes!

I may have twisted his arm a little.

I ate number one last night as we watched baseball. By the way, congratulations to my hometown team, the Detroit Tigers! Couldn’t be happier. Well, if the Red Sox were going to the World Series, I would be happier, but I’m pretty happy about the Tigers.

I’ll be back at 8:00 pm EST for A Favorite Thing.

I’ve listed a new scarf in the Etsy Shop. For those of you who have a problem with wool, this one is made from Silk and Bamboo yarn and, believe me, it is incredibly soft and silky on your skin.

Update: Sold. I’m starting a new scarf as I write this!

Happy Friday.

Couldn’t think of a better way to start the weekend. Hope your weather holds out so you can get out and a bout to see some more Fall Colors and get a good walk in. Feels like winter is on it’s way here.

Interesting facts about lady bugs! Oh how I would love to be in such close proximity to NYC!
Love the new scarf. How do you like using Etsy and Paypal? I have both an Etsy and Paypal account, but I prefer to do my selling without it.
    Have a great day!

Those dear little lady bugs. So sweet and so helpful in our gardens. Yes, do let them use your porch! I just love the graphics on the Magnolia Bakery bags and boxes. Just perfect in my way of thinking. We have the same weather here. Yesterday sunny and beautiful. Today cool, dark and rainy. I am loving the weather today. I don’t have to work until later this afternoon and I am wearing my flannel jammies, drinking hot tea, reading lovely blogs and Bentley is curled up next to me. Heaven! See you at your party tonight!!

    Hugs from Idaho,

You are so lucky to be able to have Magnolia Bakery, I wonder if their cookbook is really the recipes they use?
    Have a great day!

I don’t mind the lady bugs. Right now I am finding live wasps sometimes and those darn stink bugs! We think they are coming in from the chimney. My dogs are afraid of flies and gnats so you can imagine how they react to a wasp or a stink bug buzzing by! Everyone wants in before the weather turns cold! It’s sunny here right now but rain coming again later on. So sweet of Don to bring you some cupcakes!~Hugs, Patti

I saw some wasps right by the ladybugs and I read that they feed on ladybugs. Bad wasps! It’s raining really hard at the moment.

I think those are Asian Lady Bugs. I think they sting. If I remember right, anyway. For a couple years we had so many. I just saw the first one here this week.
Okay, Brenda beat me to the scarf. I would love on in pink if you could make one. No hurry…..they look so soft and I can’t do the wool.
    Have a happy week-end.

I’ll look for pink, but this particular silk/bamboo doesn’t come in pink. What about cream?

I love ladybugs, Claudia, and am envious of yours. I didn’t see many this summer and they’re so jolly (not to mention useful!) in the garden. However I did see Mr. Mantis (or perhaps Mrs. …. not sure) and that was a happy day. I hope he/she ate his/her share of garden pests! Here in New England we are very, very sad for the Sox, but very, very glad for any team that eliminates the Yankees! It’s raining here, today, too, but they’re promising sun this weekend. I hope you have a lovely one!

My brother and sister in law live in a fairly new home built on the slope of a mountain in Tenn. Every year they are invaded by ladybugs, millions and millions of them. He has to take his wet vac and vac. them out of the house a few times and he says they can sit on their screened in back porch and see them marching onto their property out of the
woods. Their land is beautiful and right next to the deep woods. They really love living there after having lived most
of their life here in Fla.

    Hi Claudia,
Last year, my Daughter and I went to the city. Her on business.. I just tagged along. We passed the Bakery as we walked. The line was out the door being the weekend. I told my Daughter on the way to the car, we need to stop. Well, when it was time to go the line was even longer…. I was so bummed!!! Anyway, that was my very, very short experience with Magnolia Bakery. Enjoy a little slice of heaven. Lovely scarf :)
    Have a great weekend,
    xxx Liz

Woo hoo!!!! Go Tigers!!!!! Our hometown needs something to lift it’s spirits and the Tigers are hot right now! That is so cool to find the clematis bloom. You have ladybugs and we have the box elders. They’re all over the place! You and I love ladybugs but I’m not fond of box elder bugs but I do take them outside. There is a little country home store in Dixborro (near Ann Arbor) that has lady bugs and a few box elders that manage to live inside all winter. Nobody minds, because we’re used to them.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
