Laptop & Robins

July 21, 2021 at 9:45 am by Claudia

Fortunately, I edited some photos and uploaded them to the blog ahead of time, knowing I might not have access to my photo editing software. And I don’t, because my laptop has been sent in for repair.

First time, by the way, I’ve been in a mall since before lockdown. I don’t like malls – the atmosphere and lighting always makes me feel bleary – so I usually avoid them. Anyway, Charlie, the tech who waited on me, was very helpful. He ran a few tests to eliminate reasons why the “t” key might not be working. Everything checked out as okay. When he looked up the cost of replacing the keyboard it was almost $500. Ummm…no. So we got into a discussion as to whether I should buy a separate keyboard, which seemed like a solution, albeit an awkward one as a laptop is supposed to sit on your lap, that’s why the keyboard is built in. But I was willing to go for it. Then he asked if he could run one more test and he disappeared with it for a while. Turns out the battery and the keyboard are considered one piece and my battery is swelling, which means it should be replaced. And if the battery needs replacing, in addition to the keyboard, I can get that done for half the price. When repairs involve the battery, they send the computer in via ground shipping. So it will take a few days to get there, then – hopefully – they’ll replace the battery/keyboard, and then they’ll ship it back directly to me via air.

I miss my laptop. As you know, I tend to give human qualities to inanimate objects, so I’m absolutely sure it misses me, too. Sob.

Hopefully, I’ll get it back toward the end of next week. If Don didn’t have a laptop, I’d be up a creek.

All that took a big chunk of time, so I didn’t get to my easel yesterday and that makes two days in a row. Today, I am painting.

Pretty sure Mama has some babies in that nest because I see her thrusting her beak down into the nest and I think I saw some food.. We’re going to try to keep an eye on the nest today. Still haven’t seen Papa, but, I admit, I haven’t been watching for any stretch of time.

It’s sunny right now, but we’re due to have storms in the afternoon.

Okay. Have to go!

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

I hope the young father has turned up — bringing up young birds by one parent only is a very fraught undertaking.
And I hope your laptop will return asap!

That’s what I worry about – how can she do it all by herself?

      Thanks, Petra.

I’m glad Charlie figured it out. Otherwise, you’d be typing on another keyboard….that would be so awkward.
I hope papa bird is around, but that mama is doing sn awesome job.
Update: my granddaughter is doing much better. Still tires easily and still has a headache off and on but it’s much less severe. I am breathing much easier now.

Sounds like Charlie found a good solution for you. Hope you get your laptop back soon.

Mama Robin is indeed a hero…sitting on them through all that rain and wind. And now, apparently taking care of the babies by herself, I hope Papa is helping, and that you just haven’t seen him. We don’t need another dead-beat dad.

    Enjoy your painting today! ;)

I don’t see papa helping at all and I monitor feeding activities a lot. Only one bird feeding the babies. And that same bird is the one that warns me off if I get too close.

      Stay safe, Donna.

Fantastic news on the price reduction for computer repair plus new battery.

Been trying to get news on baby purple finches hatching on the exterior lighting fixture nest. Husband says they must have since mother and father are steadily arriving and seem to be doting on someone hidden in the nest. When the hatching was happening the female stepped aside and watched intently.

    New life is fascinating!

    Happy Painting Day!

Forgot to ask – how is your air quality, Claudia and anyone else in the Northeast. Daughter in CT says it was like living in Los Angeles. Even with a mask on it was hard to breathe.

We had an air quality warning on Tuesday – due to the fires. My eyes were really irritated!

I had battery swelling in my iPad and Kindle Fire. They were replaced very cheap. Amazon offer was outstanding and they fixed it fast.

So glad you had a good experience with your computer, and hope it will be back home with you quickly!

We had an Air Quality Alert until noon today. It is slightly hazy outside and has been for a couple of days. The area that is impacted by the smoke from the fires is so large!!

Hope you are able to paint today and that the rain isn’t heavy this afternoon at MHC. Enjoy, and take care.

I’m the tech person here, but I’m not a tech wiz, so I know when to send it in for repair!

      Stay safe, Linda.

I use my laptop with a keyboard 99 percent of the time. I have a remote keyboard and mouse so no cords and I’ll put the keyboard on my lap and the laptop on my desk or dining table (or in the case of the lake, a TV table by my cozy chair!) The separate keyboard is far less sensitive than the computer keyboard and doesn’t skip around as the other sometimes does. So, don’t hesitate, though it looks like you have your solution!

My laptop keyboard has given me no trouble in terms of sensitivity. It would be difficult using another keyboard, as well as the laptop.

      Thanks, Jeanie!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
