Day 20 of hotel living, albeit a suite.
The view from my current perch on the sofa. I move back and forth between the sofa and the chair. Neither are back-friendly. After a period of feeling achy in one, I move to the other, ever hopeful that somehow it will have magically become more comfortable.
Right now, as I write this, I’m listening to the slamming of doors out in the corridor. Hotel room doors are loud.
I have a stack of NY Times Crossword Puzzles in that pile on the left. I recently subscribed to them online. They keep my brain sharp.
We went to Target and, you guessed it, Trader Joe’s on our day off. I forked out for new slippers as my old ones were full of holes.
The bedroom. I often write notes to the cleaning crew here telling them not to change the sheets. It seems like such a waste of resources and time for them to change the sheets every day. I make the bed on those days and leave a note on the duvet. Sometimes I just hang the Privacy tag on the doorknob and save them from having to clean the room. Last night, I broke a glass and had to have someone come up and vacuum up the mess. I wanted to grab the vacuum and do it myself. Oh right, this isn’t my home and that wasn’t my vacuum.
Cluttery desk. Books to read, stapler, various thingies needed for my work. Chargers. Sunglasses. My trusty canvas bag with script, umbrella and wallet.
Morning view outside the living room window.
Must have Peets French Roast Coffee. Must.
I’ve been crocheting flowers for the garlands I plan to sell in the Etsy Shop. But it’s slow going. I’m usually so tired at night that I can’t even contemplate crocheting.
The cable channels choices are terrible. If I constantly wanted to watch ESPN, I’d be in heaven. Last night, thank goodness, Modern Family was on. One of my former students, Abraham Higginbotham, is a producer and writer on MF. Then I watched The B in Apartment 23, which is not my cup of tea, but another former student, Ray Ford, has a recurring role in it and I’m thrilled for him. (They’re both earning more money than I am.)
It’s a nice room as hotel rooms go. But it’s still a hotel room.
Tonight I’m going to watch a performance of Bell, Book and Candle which is currently running at the theater. Two of my friends are in it and it will be fun to see them again. I was supposed to go last week but then we had the Riley emergency and I wanted to stay close to my phone.
Happy Thursday.

That’s alot of days to be away from you. Your space looks a little COZY. Hope the doggies are doing okay. Wonder if Riley missed you.
Love those pretty flowers.

I’m sorry the chairs aren’t back-friendly, Claudia, but it does look as if you’ve settled in and made your suite comfy for your long stay there. I was wondering if you’d brought your crochet work or if there was the time to spend on it. That color is so pretty! It must be conflicting, to be enjoying a city and seeing friends and doing the work you love, but missing your home. I hope you enjoy the play tonight! Have a lovely day. (Those new slippers look toasty!!)

You’re so right, there’s no place like home. After a week “on the road” I couldn’t wait to get home to home-cooked food and my own bed ~ none of which I ever take for granted. xo

Enjoy the play AND the day, Claudia! Being away from home always makes me appreciate it more when I return. Ann

I always find it gratifying whenever I hear a former student is doing well as an adult. You’ve played a positive roles in these actor’s lives.

The suite looks comfy, but it’s no replacement for home at all. And having uncomfortable chairs and sofa isn’t fun either. We bought some Peet’s coffee and I just love it, better than the “S” word for coffee! At least you can make a good cup of coffee! I’d love to come sit w/you and drink coffee and crochet those pretty flowers!

I love your pictures. I am like that too when I go to hotels. I love that shade of green (of your crochet flowers)..it’s such a comfy cozy color!

You really have been gone a long time…do you finish up soon? Your room looks comfy, well, except for the chairs. Usually when we stay in hotels they tell us they don’t wash the sheets unless we want them to. I think that’s smart. I just enjoy having the bed made, a nice break for me!
Hang in there, Claudia, and enjoy the play!
XO,
Jane

Whenever I’ve had to stay in hotels for any length of time I have always had the privacy sign on the door for days until I start running out of soap, etc. I think changing the sheets everyday is silly. You did wish some time back that you would be getting more “work” – so there you are! Always a price to pay, though, and I would be missing home, too. Enjoy Bell, Book and Candle – it’s one of my favorites!

I have a secret dream of living in a space that small. I try to think what I would have to have to make it home.
Of course I would want a barn out back to store all the things that I would rotate through my living space. lol
You showed us the your workroom at the theatre, can you tell us about what you do there? I don’t know what a coach does.

Once, a long time ago, I wished for a vacation from my life and I ended up in the hospital for 37 days. I learned that I should never take home for granted again! I noticed you have Portrait of a Spy on your reading stack. I loved that book. I am going to have to go back and read all of his books now. You’ll have to tell me what you think.

I have two sets of slippers that are just alike and falling apart. But I love those ragged things.

There are pros and cons to the living arrangement, aren’t there. Seems like you know how to make it work, tho. I’m sure you look forward to summer at home. I personally am looking forward to more work on your dollhouse!…lol.. just love what you’re doing with it.

The room looks nice but too bad the furniture is uncomfortable. There is nothing like home sweet home. It looks like you have a of things to keep you busy. Nice flowers and slippers.
Claudia, I had to come back to correct my spelling :)
