Little Shelf & Square #3

March 3, 2010 at 9:46 am by Claudia

The little spice shelf now lives just below my large aqua mantel shelf in the studio. For the moment, these little cuties reside there. The wreath, by the way, was made by the very same Amy who is hosting our 39 Squares Stitchalong.

I stuck to my plan yesterday: text work on King Lear in the morning and early afternoon, then fun in the late afternoon. Don and I have worked out a system which we tried out for the first time yesterday. When he has to work on the computer, he must be upstairs in the office/guest room/music studio. I have a laptop so I am more flexible and can be downstairs in the den. With the dogs. Now, you know I love my babies but sometimes I need a break. They are sweet but demanding. On those days we are both home, Don comes downstairs around mid-afternoon, so that I can go up to my studio. Studio = happy place. Yesterday, I grabbed some time and spread out all my stitching stuff for the Stitchalong:

Love these little containers. I got them at Target. Aren’t they cute? I loaded them up with beads and other fun things that I might eventually add to some of my squares.

I sat by the bedroom window where the sunlight was pouring in and came up with Square #3.

“Ode to our Weeping Willow tree” – oh, how I love that tree. What will today’s square be? I have no idea. I’m trusting the embroidery muse will inspire me with yet another idea. I’m having fun with this challenge. I’m also thinking that a portable project like this one would be perfect for me when I am in San Diego. Last year, when I was there for a much, much longer span of time, I worked on the quilts. This year, I will be there for a couple of months. I always have to have a project going – why not some freestyle embroidery?

Have a great day.

Since some of you mentioned it in the comments, the chenille Scottie dog was made by my friend Joy. I bought it when I was in San Diego last year.

The shelf is so cute, Claudia! I have a similiar looking shelf in my guestroom which I’ve been debating whether to paint or not . . . .

Those containers are sweet! Oh, I totally understand. I love my Kodak boy but it is nice to take a break!

When are you going to be in San Diego? I’d love to go visit that shop you go to with you! I could make a day trip. I have a free flight on SW!

Hubby and I each have our own office because we can’t be together in the same room! He plays a game while I’m trying to write and do photos and I can’t stand that noise, sweetpea, but I love having him in the family room with me when reading. Aaaaah, the “new age” and what it’s done to families. Sigh…..

Love you little free stitching squares though. What do you plan on doing with them when it’s done?

    xoxo,
    Connie

My husband & I each have our own office space but somehow we end up side by side on the couch, each with a laptop…it’s probably a matter of time until we’re emailing each other from there. :-) Yet.

The stitching is darling – what a treasure you’ll have when you’re done. Hope you’re having a great day. -amy

That shelf is adorable and if I remember correctly, I had a knife rack just like in (only in red) that I sold sometime ago. I like the system you two have set up. I imagine when Bobby G. retires we will definitely have to set up a system too! xoxo

So, glad you can find those special moments to yourself. I find the hubbie breaks my train of thought, just like Scooter did five minutes ago. Especially, hard while posting and commenting. Take those moments to yourself to create and replenish your soul.

Love, Love, Love those containers from Target. I have to keep my eyes peeled for them. Boy, is my car going to be filled to the gills heading home in a month.

Sending you the sound of the surf this early morning.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
