Look Who’s Coming Out to Play

May 24, 2012 at 7:30 am by Claudia

All of these photos were taken yesterday. This last photo is of the first peony to open. Oh heaven. I took a big old sniff of that wonderful scent. The peony above it is just about to open. They are about a week early this year. The yellow rose opened yesterday, along with some red ones. And the poppy…sigh…the poppy. I call it The Peeking Poppy because it hasn’t yet fully opened. Perhaps it’s shy? That shot of orangey color among the other plants is glorious.

And I had to show you the pod. It had just started to fall away from the flower, so I scooped it up.

Ain’t nature grand?

Yes, nature is grand! Love the color of your peony. Next year I may try poppies. They truly are gorgeous flowers. I’ll have to google them to see how long they last. The peonies have a heavenly scent one of my bushes began blooming last week. Your gardens are lovely.

This is always such a glorious time in the garden … when each morning brings new flowers … like old friends returning for a visit. I think I wait for the peonies with the most anxious anticipation.

Such beautiful pictures. Love all the colors in your gardens. And what’s a peony without an ant, hah
    Have a wonderful week-end.

Oh peonies. If only we could grow them here. I have to enjoy them through pictures only. I have never even seen them sold here as cut flowers. Just too far I guess.

    Claudia,

Just beautiful photos of gorgeous flowers. Next weekend we shall be in Maine and I hope there is a lilac or two left for me to smell. Our peonies will be coming shortly and in Bridgton the whole town has planted them up and down the streets – just heavenly.

    Have a good weekend.

Indeed it is. We have a postage stamp yard – and no cutting flowers but the roses – so I’m enjoying your garden.

What beautiful colors you have in your garden, Claudia! That poppy is so dear, the way it has its head bowed. I think you’re right… she’s a shy one! And what lovely peonies. I wish I could make mine bloom but I just haven’t had any luck. I hope you enjoy your garden today. Take care.

I am green with envy Claudia ( green thumb envy). Your area is so far ahead than us. In Ontario nothing is really blooming yet. It is close but my Peonies are just buds right now. Everything looks gorgeous.

Claudia, I so enjoyed reading your recent gardening posts. You gardens are looking like impressionist paintings.

I just remarked to my husband the other night that I love the way our yard looks after years of constantly adding and layering in new plantings.

So pretty Claudia! In the first shot the flower looks almost as if it is made of paper and is being unfolded. Ann

Peonys are so pretty. They can’t take rain or wind, as you well know, but don’t they make a wonderful cut flower for the table. You are doing well with your flowers Claudia. Hope all is well . Smiles, xo, Susie

Your flowers are just fantastic! I’m so sad as my peonies are all finished and just about off the bushes..they should just be blooming, but were a good month early because of the odd warm weather this year.
Am so glad you are home to enjoy them…

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
