Magnolia Bakery

January 15, 2011 at 11:39 am by Claudia

Greetings from the Bunker. It is 9:50 am as I begin writing this post. And it is 2 degrees outside. I will announce it now: I have officially had it with Winter. My dreams are of the Spring. I was looking at the White Flower Farm catalogue this morning, dreaming of flowers and gardening.

I was in Manhattan yesterday and boy-oh-boy was it cold! The offices for the theater are in Greenwich Village. I got down to the Village with time to spare, so I decided to walk around before I headed over to the office. I walked down one side of Bleeker Street, crossed the street and went into a bookstore to get warm and as I went outside again, what should I see but the famous Magnolia Bakery directly across the street! Apparently, I had walked by it in a cold weather induced haze. You’d better believe I high-tailed it back across the street.

Don and I are trying to cut out the sugary treats that are our weakness, especially in the dead of winter. That particular vow was tossed out the window when I saw their cupcakes. I didn’t have my camera with me so I had to wait to take some photos until I got home. Unfortunately, I got home after dark, not a good time for taking photos, but a good time to eat cupcakes. We each ate one, which left 2 to photograph this morning.

Best cupcakes I’ve ever had. I could eat them all day long. My favorite is the vanilla. The one pictured above is chocolate with chocolate frosting. For Don. If you go to Manhattan, you must visit. I think there are four locations: on Bleeker (the original location), Columbus Ave on the Upper West Side, Rockefeller Center and Grand Central. Their web site mentions that are going to begin shipping cupcakes to ‘your home town’ in the Spring! Trust me, it will be worth your while.

I am so enamoured that I bought a little tote bag.

Not that I don’t have enough of these types of bags already, but I loved the shade of blue, as well as the graphics. They sell t-shirts, too. Uh oh.

I have to go back to that neighborhood in a week.

Where do you think I will be stopping?

Don just came downstairs and asked it it was too early to eat cupcakes.

Oh my those cupcakes do look delicious.
From our kitchen window this morning it looks like a beach of white glistening sand. There are sparkles from the sun’s reflection. It is beautiful. I’m afraid lots of it will melt away today and tomorrow.
Rain is forcasted for Mon. and Tues. Sad………..
    More snow on Thurs, though.

You are allowed to eat a cupcake especially in winter…the sugar gives your body the fuel to get warm…at least that’s how I spin it…lol

And here I have been complaining about what apparently is balmy 30 degree weather down here where the cold-weather wimps live! Please tell Don that cupcakes can be eaten ANYTIME and I’m impressed that you didn’t eat them all at once! They look delicious and I love the look of the Magnolia Bakery logo. I think I’d have to get a t-shirt next time I bought cupcakes there – which is next week, right? Have a relaxing weekend. Ann

Yummy cupcakes!!! Makes me want one for breakfast..oh my.

Ah, White Flower Farm. Not only did I spend many weekends there walking amongst the gorgeousness all three seasons…and then back at Christmas for a few things, (I lived not far)I actually worked for them part-time at one point, specifically selling the Daffodil Mart portion of the company. I talked to people all over the country and particularly enjoyed talking to the gentleman gardeners that were from the South. That was the year I decided to plant over 100 bulbs along my walkway. I wonder if the current home owners look forward to the beautiful giant daffodils every Spring like I did. sigh. If you love peonies…….they truly have the best ever and are worth every penny.

p.s. I still get the catalog even though there are few things that I can grow here in the desert.

I love the cupcakes and the tote bags. How cute!

And Claudia, I’m wondering if a Southerner opened that bakery. Magnolias are a tree I associate with the South unless it’s a person named Magnolia who opened it. Just curious.

We have a little cupcake store in St. Augustine called LuLi’s, and I have to fight myself to stay out of there every time I pass. But oh, when I have indulged… YUM!

Sitting here trying to feel better. I had a little relapse, and I am going to go to the doctor if I can’t shake this. Am heading to St. Augustine tomorrow to see if a change of location helps. It could be allergies, and the allergy chart here is off the charts. I’m thinking the sea air in St. A. might be a help.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

Funny greeting! I can’t wait for Spring too. It can’t come soon enough. Magnolia Bakery must be a wonderful place to visit. I too have a weakness. I had a cherry turnover this am from Shoprite. I’m sure it doesn’t compare to your amazing cupcakes. Have a wonderful week.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
