March: You’re Driving Me Crazy

March 7, 2017 at 8:16 am by Claudia

Buds on the lilac bush.

Leaves on the wild honeysuckle.

Buds on the Climbing Hydrangea.

Not to mention the daylily leaves coming out of the ground that I keep covering up with mulch. It’s cold here and this weekend the temps are going down into the teens again. Next week, a little – not much – snow. March is turning out to be very changeable, indeed. And it’s driving me crazy.

Still congested, though I think it’s due to the recent extremes in the weather. Nevertheless, it leaves me feeling like I’m still fighting off this virus. And now Don isn’t feeling well. That started yesterday. Not sure what’s going on, but I’m doing my best to take care of him because he did such a good job of taking care of me. Poor baby.

But…I have to go into the city today for a final run through of Anastasia. Thursday, the cast moves to the theater and the long tech process begins. Very exciting!

I’m reading Rules of Civility  by Amor Towles and am enjoying it very much. And obsessively following my Twitter feed as this “administration” – I use that word very loosely –  implodes before my eyes.

As Dorothy Parker said, “What fresh hell is this?”

I have to get going, my friends. Today, work. Tomorrow, rest.

Rest in Peace, Robert Osborne. You were and are irreplaceable.

Happy Tuesday.

I know March is a messy month. We are having cooler days but so far nothing to kill the buds. I hope Don isn’t getting this virus. Sending him a big hug. I hope you enjoy your trip to the city and then more rest tomorrow. My Mom has another Dr’s appt today. I’m hoping to finish my current Karin Slaughter novel today. I will miss Robert Osborne! So much knowledge and love of films!!

He does have a wee virus, but he seems to be a bit better this morning.

Yep, March is…well, March! Always fickle. Grey and wet here today, though the forecast is to hit 60. Snow in the forecast for Friday and Sunday. Up and down and up and down. Do hope Don is not getting the “bug” before he heads out West, and glad you are getting somewhat better…sorry it’s such a slow process.

Up and down is right! Don has a little something – different than what I had – and I know he’ll be better soon!

We will miss Robert Osborne. RIP, Sir.

That Dorothy Parker quote is one of my favorites! I use it every time the phone rings.

March is always a crazy month! It’s our family birthday month, so I remember countless birthdays in the snow, with flowers in bloom, picnics, and ice skating parties! Unsettled and unpredictable have been the many, many Marches of my life, so I expect anything to happen in March. Hang in there…April is coming!

Anything can and does happen in March. Now we’re having the cold spell we should have had in February. Go figure!

Ah, yes, felt so sad to hear of the passing of Robert Osborne; we were just speaking of him recently here on the blog in fact. My husband works on the fringe of the biz and had immense respect for him; said he never came upon anyone in film/TV work who didn’t feel the same. Robert Osborne was loved and respected in the industry and by fans. He had so much knowledge about the movies.

Gosh it’s hard to be working when not feeling well; I feel for you both and send healthier, healing wishes. Very hard to be traveling when feeling yucky. And then you have the weird weather. Even out here on the west coast of SoCalif it’s pretty cold, for us, for March–we were 40 degrees at 6am today and in the 30s the previous morning. In garden centers here, the stores are already selling potted veggies to plant…I almost bought some herbs yesterday…and I’m afraid if anybody planted this weekend, they may have lost their new crop. Icy and frost all over everything yesterday morning…roofs, cars, lawns (yes, we have lawns again, due to the rain!).

I haven’t read a headline on this yet but my husband shared a story with me last night about a co-worker of his being on a plane somewhere in the Pacific Northwest and they had to de-ice the plane, whatever that means, and people onboard the plane on the tarmac got really sick, like throwing up, from whatever chemical was being used. So, I’m wondering what that’s about…

I meant to compliment you on these new-bud photos; they’re really something. You could take pictures for a nature series, like a beautiful hardbound coffee table book!

I’ve never heard a bad word about Robert Osborne. He was well and truly loved.

I’ve been on plenty of planes that were de-iced while I was on them and never had a problem. Maybe something new that they’re using?

Sorry to hear about Don,,,,hope he is not catching whatever you caught. March weather has always been unpredictable…but as I’ve said before…Mother Nature seems confused. Our cranes seemed quite confused by last Friday’s snowfall…even though it was only an inch, they were sure squawking a lot about it….poor things! I love that phrase…”what fresh hell is this”…..I use it all the time. It’s so fitting for this particular time in history. Hope the day goes well for you….safe travels! ;)

Barbara Stanwyck movies are on all day today and they have had a tribute to Robert Osborne between movies.

I saw the tribute the night he died. Love Barbara Stanwyck, but I was in the city all day yesterday, so I couldn’t watch anything.

Robert Osborne was a one-of-a-kind classy guy. He was the heart and soul of TCM. I have missed his presence, these last months, and still expect to see him introducing my movies…..

I’m a new follower. I saw a photo of your bookshelf, reminiscent of the 40’s, and fell in love with it. I immediately had my husband build a bookshelf for a niche in the wall that had no purpose–reminded me of a funeral home where the viewing room number would be posted. I staged it with old books and knick-knacks, and love it. Thanks for the inspiration! Also, I came down with a similar malady to your own. I was sick last week and should be feeling better by now but still feel somewhat “off”. Friends are telling me that this upper respiratory virus often goes into a sinus infection, which sounds right, since my teeth are aching. Dr. appt on Thursday! And, by the way, I live outside of Orlando and the pollen count has set records, so there’s that. Good luck and feel better!

So, at what point does SOMEONE do SOMETHING about this maniacal fool? Are we at the mercy of the Repubs ~ who we KNOW won’t do a thing ~ or is there another way? I know there are articles of impeachment, and I don’t know / understand them, but at what point does it become evident to all that he is actually, certifiably insane? I truly feel that we are all in jeopardy. We watched TRMS and Lawrence O’Donnell last night and it is breathtaking to know how terrifying this all is at this point. That he is being allowed to throw out these tid-bits of nonsense, and not ever EVER follow up with one piece of evidence is bewildering. There seems not to be anyone of any sense “in charge” of ANYTHING.

Oh, I hope you continue to feel better and that Don doesn’t come down with it ~ or anything ~ before his trip. This weather is about as crazy as this administration. We, too, have lilac buds, and the bed of daylily are pushing through. A bit of snow is also in our forecast. Our daughter’s BD is on the first day of Spring, and I remember lovely days and days of no school due to snow storms, too. I think March and April are the two most difficult months of the year for me. It is always one or two steps forward and eight or nine steps back. Even though I know we will get there, the journey through these two months can be daunting and filled with disappointment. Especially when a few lovely spring days morph back into several more ugly winter ones. We could refer to this as a First World “problem”, however, I think First World Problems have taken on an entirely new meaning…….

I know. Will someone please save us? This is insane. The Republicans, who I have lost all respect for, continue to bide their time as they try to shove through every horrific thing they can until they have no choice but to impeach him. I’m convinced, as Rachel said last night, that it will be the Press that will save us. That and the continuation of well-timed leaks from certain members of the Intelligence Community. I have no doubt they will do whatever it takes to get the facts out there.

Yes, March always seems endless in its craziness and April is only a bit better. We need May!

Fickle March does keep us guessing; but let’s hope we can count on April for a true springtime. Robert Osborne is truly unforgettable and for me, his memory will linger permanently at TCM. He is a basic part of TCM and all that makes it special as well as the classic movies too. Wishing Don a speedy recovery and hope he is back to normal quickly. Dianne

We had a tornado touch down just south and west of us last night. My town was in the path and there was a report of a funnel cloud just north east of the main part of town. First time in 20 plus years, my husband and I went into the basement after persuading our 2 feline girls to join us. They were very concerned that we were all in the basement with the door closed. Another first for them to cope with – heh. We were lucky – just a downpour of rain a small bits of hail and wind. Temps yesterday were in the 50’s and this morning they had dropped below 30 and there was snow on the ground. Today we have 30 to 40 mph wind gusts and in between the gusts around 18 mph. Now we will have to worry about fire if we don’t get more rain or snow soon. March is truly a fickle month. Hope Don feels better soon and hope you do not relapse. Take Care.

Goodness! I’m glad you’re all safe and sound, Ranee! We’ve had a lot of those 30-40 MPH winds lately. I’ll have to show a photo of the big catalpa limb that the wind brought down.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
