McCoy Monday (and a Kitten Update)

January 25, 2010 at 1:05 am by Claudia

Time for installment #3 of McCoy Monday! Today’s piece is a jardiniere in the basket-weave pattern. McCoy jardinieres are quite large and, in this case, very heavy. I’m pretty sure I won this piece on eBay. I love the creamy color and the pattern of berries and leaves, along with the basket-weave. This sits on the step leading down to our den – but tucked safely away from the traffic pattern of humans and dogs.

By the way, do you remember my story last week about the over-priced antique shop on Long Island? They had a McCoy piece priced at $150.00 – marked on sale for $72.00. I was shocked at the mark-up. How over-priced was it? I’ve seen two of the same piece on eBay this week. Both were in wonderful condition. One went for $9.00, the other went for $13.00. I felt like emailing the listings to the shop with a little note about ridiculous pricing – but I didn’t. That was just a little fantasy I had.

Say hello to Lydia and Luke – my parents’ newly adopted kittens. They are two and three months old. Luke is looking at us and Lydia is sleeping on Luke.

Such adorableness.

That’s funny about the overpricing, not so funny for the person that buys it! The kitties are beautiful!

Oh, Claudia – they’re so sweet… Other than their age and size difference, they look like they could be litter-mates! How wonderful that your parents gave these two a permanent home!

And your McCoy – wow, that’s an impressive sized piece – beautiful!… Donna

Isn’t it amazing how they mark things up like this. You really gotta know the going rate on antiques to spot a deal.

The new addition to your family are adorable.

Claudia, what a lovely piece of pottery! I sometimes wonder at the markup of prices as well . . . you think they’d sell more if they priced things more reasonably.

What a couple of cuties! I know nothing can replace the loss of a beloved pet, but I hope these two will help to fill the void for your parents . . . least ways these two will keep them busy! LOL!

Thanks for sharing and have a terrific day!

    Hugs,
    Teresa

I saw a few pieces of McCoy at an antiques mall last week and thought of you. They had pale aqua and pink, and one white vase. But they were all prices over $60. Glad to know you can find it cheaper!

    Love the kitties!!!

That’s what I call price gouging. They know that some poor unsuspecting wealthy person will spend that much for something just because they can, I guess. cute kittens.

Love that piece! It is fun to collect at a decent price. I just love vendors who have multiples and charge a fortune. Cannot be worth all that if you have a dozen!!
LOVE the kitty pics! Luke looks as if he’ll be a medium hair and he is handsome! And Lydia is just to cute all little and sleeping!! Thanks for sharing!

    Good Morning Claudia

Just popping by before I head to work – ugh:) When I read your headline I thought that you found another kitten. They are too sweet – you parents must love them.

And I know what you mean about e-bay versus a dealer. Sometimes I just think they’ll try to get away with anything in order to make a buck!

    Enjoy your day!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
