On this McCoy Monday, I am sharing my oldest piece of McCoy pottery with you. The company was called Nelson McCoy in its early days. This piece was made in 1935 and is from the stoneware line – there is no mark on the bottom. I’ve rarely, if ever, seen a piece from this era. I was in Owensboro, Kentucky one day on a coaching job and I wandered into an antique store and saw this piece. The fact that it has a chip or two didn’t matter to me – I knew it was a gem. Actually, I rather like that it has been used and has a patina.
You can see the flower in the design – is it a water lily? I’ll have to do some more research. So many of you are collectors and I’m sure you, like me, love the story behind each piece you collect. What are the odds I would be in Owensboro, KY and happen upon this little gem? It now lives behind the glass doors of my china cabinet in the kitchen.
Have a great Monday!
beautiful piece, claudia, and how found that you were at the right place at the right time to find it!
i was looking through an old magazine (i think, creative home) and there was an article on mccoy. do you have it? want it? just let me know.

Lucky you! And it takes someone who knows McCoy to know it’s’ their’s since there is no mark on the bottom. I have seen that in a brown glaze too, but your aqua blue is just the prettiest.
Just lovely, Claudia. As I have been reading your McCoy Monday posts I realizzed that my Aunt Mary used to have lots of McCoy as did my Aunt Nena.
Have a wonderful week!

now THAT is an adorable piece of Mccoy! have a great Monday Claudia!
whata marvelous piece! ihave several mccoy pieces but none dating back that far, my eraliest piece is 1943.
It is such a rich beautiful color, and the texture is so pretty. It does look like a water lily to me.

You may not realize it but the way you “staged” that photo with the background for the pottery is astounding, sugar. I actually gasped with it came up on the screen. Just a totally beautiful picture! And I mean it…

Hi Claudia,
Those times are just meant to be, aren’t they. That jug was supposed to be yours, and I’m so happy that it is now in your possession where it will be properly cared for. Have a great week.
Hugs,
Meri
Your McCoy collection is amazing and I especially love this little piece and would not have known it was McCoy. It’s beautiful – I have such a weakness for pretty pottery. -amy
What a lovely little pitcher! I used to have a McCoy planter with the same glaze color (I don’t think it was as old, though) – wish I still had it – and your pink wall to go behind it!
McCoy Pottery, huh? I am learning so much now that I am a blogger! I can thrift shop in a more efficient way.
I also liked the doll house update! Love the chair!
**I wanna doll house! Waaaaaaah**

Oh i so thought of you yesterday! I found a pink kitten pitcher at the local flea market. She was $25. I didn’t think that was bad she was in great shape and super sweet, I didn’t want to pay that but I thought it wasn’t bad. Really cute!! I know how you love yours!
Hugs, Lisa
I love that. The color is beautiful. The flower design is lovely. What fun to have such an old piece of Nelson McCoy.
You have such a sweet and nice collections.
A gorgeous piece. I adore the color. It looks like a water lily, or lotus. I have only one piece of McCoy, a white planter. It was in an antique mall owned by a friend. I asked her how much for the piece, she handed it to me and said, “For you, nothing my Dear!” I must keep an eye out for other pieces. ♥
That’s a swell McCoy piece! I love the really old ones. They’re so rustic. I don’t mind if they have chips either. We get a few as we age, too!
