Mid-Week Ramblings

September 8, 2021 at 8:58 am by Claudia

This was the state of the sky on our walk the other day. I took the day off from walking yesterday, but I’m going to get back out there this morning before my coaching session. I like this kind of sky – deep, dark, foreboding. Interestingly, no rain occurred that day.

Today, on the other hand, we’re supposed to get big thunderstorms with gusty winds in the afternoon and early evening. And maybe a bit more rain tomorrow, then six or seven days in a row with no rain.

Don’s off to recycle. I’m going to try to get some chores done before I coach in the afternoon.

I’m still waiting for my doll to arrive. I’ve been tracking her journey from Liverpool to the States. There was a murky period there where England said it was ready to leave the country and the US said it had been notified that a package was being prepared and nothing happened for at least four days. Sort of like purgatory for international mail. But over the weekend, it was processed through JFK, then went to the Jamaica, Queens postal facility, then to Stamford, CT, then to Jersey City, NJ. Now it’s in Albany. I’m betting it gets here Friday. But – that being said – I’ve seen things leave Albany and end up in Springfield, MA for no rhyme or reason. The circuitous, sometimes baffling, journey of mail is weirdly fascinating. And often maddening.

Nothing else to report of any note. The new dollhouse is still filled with dishes of dried coffee grounds, hopefully absorbing all the musty smells. Since I’m busy with coaching, I’m not feeling impatient. I’m going to let those grounds sit there for a while.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

A lovely morning here in Illinois so I will get out for a hike too. Have to take advantage of these nice days as the seasons change.
Stay safe and enjoy your day, Claudia!

I imagine there will be lots of walking in NYC so it’s a good idea to get in better shape for it.
We had a wild thunderstorm yesterday with hail. There were some trees down in some areas, but nothing near us.
    Take care

I think it’s great you are walking more now…and it’s great exercise. And having a great neighborhood to walk in is a definite bonus.

It’s a gorgeous day here too…blue skies, light breezes, and cool temps. We are now on day 7 or 8 with no air having to be turned on…woohoo.

I bet your new dollhouse smells wonderful with all that coffee…lol. Hope your new doll arrives safe, sound and soon. Enjoy your day! ;)

I can’t wait to see your doll! Who was the face-up artist? The mail is frustrating. I keep having packages come to the post office closest to ours, only to be sent away and then back again. Go figure. There is a doll head I want to purchase so badly from an artist in Russia. I am just afraid she’ll never make it here. Actually so far – knock on wood- all packages I have ordered have arrived- and there have been quite a few – from artisans on Etsy. I did have one get lost for about 4 months, but it did finally get to me.

The woman who sent it to me, who lives in the Liverpool area.

I have a few things (outfits for Blythes) coming from Russia. They take a LONG time!

      Fingers crossed, Jane!

      Stay safe.

It was supposed to be here this afternoon but it’s not happening until this evening. It’s very humid out there.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

sound like good plans/days for you! :)

hope the new doll arrives soon, safe and sound.

i would love days in a long row with beautiful, cooling skies as in your photo … and they offer permission to take it easy. or at least easier. none in the forecast, unfortunately (we need the rain).

    happy, safe wednesday to all.

I’ll have to remember this remedy of dried coffee grounds for mustiness. I recently bought a secondhand library book, VERY hard to find (it’s large print and out of print), and I almost can’t bear to hold it in my hand due to the mustiness/sour smell. I have it just sitting out, airing out (with all the air circulating in the home with standing/table fans [as we’re so hot where I live in Southern Calif]), hoping it helps. I just intend to read it once and then pass it along. I can’t have it sit outside because it’s too old and fragile with the heat being too intense in these early-Sept days.

Claudia, in recent times, I see even small things I’ve wanted to order from international addresses, but I’m just too afraid to; as, several years ago now, maybe seven years or so, I ordered something from a well-known company in London and I got hit with the message that it was held up at LAX with fees due. To my utter shock, the fees were more than half of what the total order was with this mail-order company. I talked with several people at LAX about it but nobody was budging (the other problem was that the shipment had fallen apart from there to here and stuff was falling out of the carton, somebody had tried to tape it up along the way); I emailed or maybe even called the company in London and they had virtually no sympathy or solution. I could have refused it, I think, but I opted to just get it over with, pay the duty and finish the shipment to my home from the airport; but, wow, was I burned from EVER again putting in an order like that! It was an unusual purchase for me back in the day, over $300. I of course never spend money like that now (not in these retiree/fixed-income years).

    Awesome cloudscape by the way.

It’s one of many suggestions. I can still smell the musty stuff, though, so I may have to try something else.

I have never had to pay customs fees. From what I’ve seen there seems to be no consistency. Some people get charged and others don’t.

      xo

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
