Mini Baby Carriage

September 17, 2009 at 10:10 am by Claudia

This little mini wicker baby carriage was found when I was in San Diego. At Vignettes, of course. I couldn’t resist it. There are hand painted flowers along the top and the sweetest cushion inside. I don’t know how old it is, but it is definitely vintage. The scale seems to be a bit too large for the dollhouse, but I love it nonetheless.

The details on the cushion are so lovely. For now, it is in my china cabinet in the den.

Life here at MHC is a tad stressful at the moment. Both my husband and I freelance and neither of us is working at the moment – with no work in sight. I don’t know about you, but when I am feeling stressed, my worries seem to pervade everything I do. I wish this wasn’t the case and it is something I am trying to let go of. Trust, faith…I know these things are the key, but sometimes it is very hard to remain calm and trusting.

In the midst of the worry, I found out I had to get new tires for my car in order to pass inspection. And I spent an hour on the phone with the cable company arguing over an overcharge that they insisted was valid. I felt like my head was going to explode. Try as I might, I couldn’t change their minds and they couldn’t change mine. When I asked to speak to a woman from the main office who spoke with me (and agreed with me) about the problem last month, I was told that it was impossible: she couldn’t call out, I couldn’t call her….it wasn’t done. I hung up in tears of frustration, convinced I had a battle ahead of me.

A couple of hours later, the phone rang. It was a gentleman from the main office calling to tell me that he had researched the problem and that I had been ‘exactly right.’ I was dumbfounded and very grateful. I don’t know how he knew about it – I suspect customer service calls are monitored – but he took the time to take my complaint seriously, researched it, ran it by his co-workers, then called my local office and explained it to them. I will be getting a credit on my next bill. Yesterday was a long day, full of worry and frustration. Thankfully, this call ended the day and I was heartened by this man’s extra effort to resolve the problem.

Sometimes, a gesture like that can make all the difference.

Claudia- I will think very positive thoughts for you and a little prayer that you and your hubby have work soon. I would be the same way. It is encouraging to know that there are good people out there that take the time to actually do the job right and consider that the customer may know what they are talking about. What a great way to end the day. The little wicker carriage is sooo cute!!

Good for you, Claudia. I never, NEVER talk to the rep that answers the phone over any issues with any accounts … I always request the head of the department as the reps are just programmed on one channel to handle issues, & don’t know how to deviate from their ‘programming’ & it always works & usually is a much more favorable conversation with a happier resolution.

Have a great weekend. TTFN ~Marydon

Wish we could edit AFTER we post and I even previewed my post, LOL

Dear Claudia, I know all too well the feelings you are having. In the last three years my husband has been laid off three times and the total of months without work for him was about a year and a half. Our savings was pretty much depleted.

I work at home and the work hasn’t been as plentiful as it was in years past. The thought of having to go back out to work. . . YUCK . . . and then of course I wouldn’t be able to work on my dolls . . . .

OMG, I have fought those battles with our internet provider. They insisted it was MY problem . . . and after weeks and weeks the problem went away . . . yeah, they never called to tell me that it was on their end but it was!

As my dad says, as long as we have our health, all is good.

    Hang in there!

    Big hug,
    Marsha

    P.S. Darling little wicker carriage!

Hallelujah to the cable man! What a kindness he showed to follow through with your problem or would that just be his job! I hope your work situation improves for you rapidly. Things are just so tough right now. Your little carriage is adorable though, you need a little munchkin to put in it!

Your wicker baby carriage is so sweet. I can see why you feel in love with it.

I’m sorry you’re under so much stress lately. I spent a good 45 minutes on the phone the other day with my cell phone provider and thank goodness she was wonderful at her job and was able to resolve all my issues. We’re not having as much luck with an ongoing problem with our land phone provider, however.

We have our own answering machine and do not need/want the message mailbox that they provide. We keep calling to cancel it and they keep telling us that it already has been cancelled. However, we still keep missing calls occasionally that go directly to the message mailbox without our phone even ringing. It’s happened to Court and Amanda a few times when they’ve called home. They’ll call back and the 2nd time the call will come through. It’s definitely a sporadic problem. But when we call the company to report the problem, they tell us that it’s impossible, that they have cancelled our ‘mailbox’ and that we must be doing something wrong. We’ve told them that both our daughters occasionally can’t get through to us by phone, that they go directly to voicemail and the company refuses to believe that it is happening. How’s that for customer service? Ugh… Why did we switch phone companies several months ago to try to ‘bundle’ services and get a lower rate? We never had problems with our old reliable company that we’d had forever. It may be time to swtich back to them! Anyhow, I do hope that life gets less stressful out at MHC… I’ll send positive thoughts your way :)… Donna

I thought you might enjoy some of the Boston photos, Claudia… I do know how fond you are of the city!

The person on the other end of the phone makes such a difference in how you feel after making a customer service call! I’m so glad someone might have been ‘listening in’ on yours and you got some satisfaction from the company telling you that you were right!

Here’s to better days ahead :)… Donna

Life can get so overwhelming so quickly, can’t it? Be sure to take time to take care of you. And make together time, just to hold hands & watch the stars… so important when you’re stressed. Finding pleasure in little things, like the sweet little carriage, helps too.

    Peace will come.

Dear sweet Claudia. I could feel the stress in your words. I am so sorry that you have to get new tires and deal with service departments that are difficult. But, most of all the uncertainly of this economy and your freelance job must be difficult. I “wish” good things to happen for you.

Love the little wicker baby carriage. So sweet.

    Have a restful weekend. Dogwood

Isn’t it nice that someone took ownership of your complaint and followed up? That’s what customer service is all about. We have strayed so far from that ideal, that when it occurs, we are surprised. Good for you and good for the rep!
I’m sure it is stressful waiting for freelance work. It seems that you and your husband keep yourself open to opportunities and your network is wide. I bet something comes along before you know it. Hang in there!!

I came by for Pink Saturday and as always did my catch up reading. I guess I feel a sort of kinship with bloggers living in the country of the northeast. I am always hoping some of your love for it will rub off on me. It is embarassing to say, but probably at least ten times, okay 100 times, last week alone, I said aloud or wished my husband would be laid off. I so want to move back south where my son and sister live in sunshine and affordable everything! I don’t have a clue what we would do for work.

For each of those 100 times, I have reminded myself we are fortunate at this point for him to have a job. My post child rearing career can wait or be replaced.

I do wish you both the the best and hope you can remember each day how valuable you are to your work choice until the fit is found.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
