The drive to New Haven was going well until we got lost trying to find Don’s apartment building. Somehow I had written the number of the building incorrectly, so everything I had programmed into either Mapquest or our GPS was just enough off the mark to send us to downtown New Haven, rather than the Yale campus. There we were, Don getting more and more frustrated, me on the phone with the company manager, Scout ready to get out of the car, and the clock ticking away. It made for some frazzled tempers. We finally got here, unloaded the car, and since it was a busy city street and the car was double parked, I had to immediately take off for Hartford.
Four hours of rehearsal and then back on the road to New Haven. Don’s apartment is nice, very basic as is all company housing, but nice. I didn’t sleep that well; the bed is a full size which is very small for the two of us. (I’m now officially spoiled by our California King.) So I got up at 5:00 am.
Scout did pretty well. The floors in the apartment are sort of slippery for her, but the park is right across the street and she loved sniffing around there. She’s tired from the journey and all the walking and curbs and the stress of maneuvering around a new place. But I have to say she’s pretty game for an adventure.
We’re heading back home this morning and I’ll be back in Hartford for an afternoon on Thursday. I’m still trying to decide whether I will take Scout and drop her off at Don’s or whether I will leave her home and have my neighbor let her out a couple of times. This kind of thing is hard on her.
Heck, it’s hard on her mother and father!
It’s only 12 days until I start rehearsals for Hamlet, so I have to get back home and get to work on the script and a thousand other things that need to be done.
Tired Claudia is signing off for today.
New post on Just Let Me Finish This Page. I’m asking a question today: What Much-Hyped Books Left You Feeling Flat?
Happy Monday.

Hope you have a better day today, sweet friend. xo Laura

Just got home, had some lunch, and I’m going to take it easy the rest of the day!
Mary says
That was such a hectic day for all three of you – hopefully once things are sorted you can each get your rest and catch up with some sleep in your respective comfy beds!
Hugs – Mary
Claudia says
Hectic, but I think Scout had fun. She likes the stimulation of a new place, I think.
Karen says
Hope today is better!
Here’s something to look at sooner or later. If you want!

Yes, it does sound like quite the adventure. Glad Scout is being a real trooper…I’m sure that eases your mind somewhat. Maybe you could sneak in a short nap this afternoon….if not, I’m sure you’ll enjoy your bed tonight! ;)
Claudia says
I may nap, if not, I’ll surely sleep deeply tonight!
Linda @ A La Carte says
I hate getting lost! Glad you and Scout are headed home. The travel and new places are hard for all of you! Hope you get some rest! Sweet hugs to Miss Scout!
Claudia says
Hard only because of getting lost and having to do so much in such a short amount of time! Scout is now home – sleeping in the ‘tunnel.’
Melanie says
Is your weather finally nice there now? It’s been gorgeous here…70’s, sun, low humidity. I say take a break this afternoon and go for a nice walk!
Claudia says
Yes, it’s nice and coolish out there. The humidity is gone!
Chris k in Wisconsin says
Oh, the frustration. I can totally relate to that feeling! Dame Scout is, indeed, a trooper. Perhaps a short trip again on Thurs. might keep her a bit in the traveling mode, and she will remember the fun she had in her new interesting surroundings! Not to mention getting some time w/ her Dad again, which she will be able to enjoy.
Hope you can have a bit of time for yourself to just sit w/ a cup of tea or coffee this afternoon, or take a short walk. After not feeling well for a while, it helps to just sit still for a bit each day and let the energy you are depleting fill up again!! :-) It is those little moments of rest we allow ourselves that can make such a difference!! I’m sure there is a lot in the gardens you want to do before you leave, too. It really is a busy time of year. How long will you be gone for this job?
Take care, kiddo!!
Claudia says
She is a trooper. And she likes adventures. They just really tire her out! I’ll be gone for 5 weeks, but we have someone watching the house and I’ll come back periodically to check on things and mow the lawn, etc. Don will be gone for 2 months.
Janet in Rochester says
Traveling, even in pleasurable circumstances, is always tiring. Even if all you’re doing is riding along in the car, on a train or plane, whatever. And for me, being away from home is a strain no matter how much fun the being-away brings. I’m just like Gloria Stuart’s character in “Titanic.” I just like my own things around me. Hope you’re having a better day today – classic Northeast temperate weather today. Cloudless skies, perfect temperatures and no humidity. At least here in Rochester – just great.
Claudia says
Beautiful day today, Janet.
Debbie in Oregon says
Oh my goodness, those kinds of days really sTrEsS me out! Glad it all worked out in the end :)
Claudia says
It did. Now we’re home, napping.

Glad it all worked out…Has Scout ever been left in the care of a neighbor?? I think they’d rather be in their own home but going with you would be second best, I guess..Tough decision at her age..Guess it depends on how long it would be til some one comes back home…Good luck!!!
