Missing and Mowing

August 30, 2009 at 5:05 pm by Claudia

I looked out my front window this morning and saw this pink ribbon moving in the breeze. I miss our little stray kitty…this is the ribbon we used to help her relax a bit and begin to trust us. And beyond the ribbon are the hydrangea and spirea bushes where little Birdie was hiding. I know we couldn’t keep her…but I miss her.

The endless rain has finally left us along with the humidity and what a gorgeous day it is. I decided to tackle some lawn mowing. More specifically the back forty where I encountered two yellowjackets in recent weeks. We’ve had both nests treated but because of the rain and humidity I couldn’t get back there to mow. I must be honest. I was nervous. So I wore these:

My husband’s size 13 boots. I needed some ankle protection – just in case – and I didn’t have anything remotely appropriate. My foot size is much smaller, so I’m sure I looked ridiculous. Nevertheless, they gave me the confidence I needed to get out there and get the job done. And I did.

I’m so glad “my yard” (which means the part of my property I actually spend time in) is grassless. I tore the last of the grass out a few years ago. Now it’s just gardens and deck. The west side is mowed by a guy who comes by every week. It’s the side that is right across from the endless bank construction. Sorry about your kitty.

    Hey, whatever works!!

Can you check up on Birdie? I’m sure she is doing very well and all because of your kindness and compassion.

    Hugs,
    Marsha

Love the new fashion look you’re going for! It was actually a great idea. I hope you didn’t trip or pull a muscle lifting those big ‘ol boots!
Today was yardwork for me also. I loaded about 10 wheelbarrows full of rock to the curb for pick up tomorrow. My arms feel like rubber!
PS: Glad you didn’t get stung again!

    Hi, Claudia,
Those look like combat boots! I guess you were ready to battle the yellowjackets. Glad you got your mowing done. There is always a great sense of accomplishment for me after I have mown the yard. Have a great week. Vicki

I would feel exactly the same way about Birdie, Claudia. It’s an animal heart thing!

As far as the boots, whatever works will do. Glad you didn’t run into any yellow jackets.

    Have a great week!

Love the boots. My Guy has a pain that looks similar. I think I will wear them next time I have a huge yard job to tackle! Sweet pink ribbon on your porch for kitty. Have a nice evening.

I love that! Mowing is a chore I do not like to do…especially when yellowjackets are involved! Hope the kitty is doing well..where ever she is!

Now you should have gotten a picture of yourself wearing those boots to share with us! At least you can’t blow over in a stiff wind, wearing those things; they’ll anchor you to the ground for sure.

    Sorry you miss the Kitty!

What a woman! I don’t believe I would have braved the possibility of encountering anything that would sting me!

P.S. – You should have gotten pics of yourself in those boots! :)

We’ve had So much rain this summer too. Unfortunately, our roof has gone kaput, leaking in three different spots. Fingers crossed for a big insurance check. :)

Those darn wasps! They seem to be everywhere this summer. Brian had to spray up and down our driveway and sidewalk this summer to try to get rid of them, but they weren’t having any of it. I’m allergic, so I didn’t spend too much time out front this year . . . and it shows! Good thing fall is around the corner, maybe I can get some work done before winter sets in!

Sorry about Birdie, Claudia, but I’m sure she’ll find a happy and loving home soon!

    Blessings,
    Teresa

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
