A Momma-to-be on Mother’s Day

May 7, 2011 at 6:36 pm by Claudia

It’s Mother’s Day time again. I will call my Mom today and tell her how much I love her. She’s getting frailer all the time. She very seldom gets out any more. Doing something like going into the other room to read this blog on the computer is too exhausting for her. It makes me very sad. I wish I could give her a big hug today.

As I was thinking about Mother’s Day, a mother-to-be came to mind.

Yes, it’s true. Momma Robin has taken over the nest. That glimpse of a bird I mentioned to you the other day has become a fairly constant presence. She leaves the nest for a few minutes at a time but that’s all. In the beginning, whenever I walked by the door, she flew away. I didn’t want her panicking so I draped a net curtain over the door. I came home between afternoon and evening rehearsal today, carefully moved the curtain back, crawled along the floor so she couldn’t see me, and took these photos.

So, do you think they had just built the nest when I arrived here? If so, my timing couldn’t be better. I will have a ring-side seat while Momma sits on her eggs. I’ll get to see the babies. I’m thrilled.

Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom, my sister and to my little Robin Mom.

Claudia, You get to watch the robins, but you won’t get to take the nest home. I think that you got the better of the two options.

I have two baby Cactus Wrens in the back yard now and I waste a lot of time every day watching them bounce from one place to another as they learn to fly. Enjoy your Robins!

Way too cool. I love watching a robin nest each spring. My seemed to have built her nest this year and then left. My fingers are still crossed she will return or I have just missed her. Or…I could be the neighbors CAT….

Happy Mother’s Day to you the best Mother Riley and Scout could ever have. I think the Universe just gave you a wonderful present, a robin who will lay her eggs and produce babies just so you can see them. You are missing Spring at home, but you have been given a gift. Also Happy Mother’s Day to the very best sister anyone could ever ask for.
    I love you a ton.

    Claudia,
Seeing our parents grow old & frail is so bad. I lost my Mom in 07 & I miss her everyday. Life is hard sometimes. But on a happier note, your bird is amazing. That nest!!!! You got a great picture too. Hope your having a good week.

    Happy Mother’s Day, Claudia!

Robins will reuse their nests from year to year if not disturbed. We have chickadees in the vintage 5 room apartment house in the garden hubby built me. Only wish I could view them well as you.

    Cheers…

What sweet photos of your robin, Claudia. She looks so happy sitting up there. I hope you had a nice chat with your mom today. I know what you mean about parents being frail. My dad was supposed to come home from rehab over the weekend but he contracted pneumonia again, so they are keeping him until Tuesday. I do worry how it will be when he gets home as he still has no strength in his legs. I just pray that everything will be okay. I hope you have a wonderful week!… Donna

How wonderful, Claudia, that you have a Robin nesting with you. I have this belief that birds are “familiars” with women. I looked up the meaning of the Robin and this is what I found. Perhaps she will help you meditate on something relevant, or perhaps not. ** The robin with its red breast and trilling song awakens us to the spring season. When robin totem makes its appearance you can expect new spurt of growth or a new beginning for yourself. This bird is associated with the spring equinox, reaffirming the importance of seasonal changes. Are you honoring change in your life or are you stuck in old patterns. The robin teaches us to move forward and not to be afraid to try new things. The robin gets its nourishment from the earth, pulling earthworms out of the soil.It is true that the early bird gets the worm! Ask yourself, are you taking full advantage of new opportunities? Also, this action reminds us to ground our bodies and pull up life energies from the earth to nourish our spiritual selves.** Enjoy Her presence. Peace. Brianne

I echo what a lot of others have said- what a wonderful gift that the robin has chosen to have her babies outside your door! Your sweet Mom is in my prayers- and I wish you a belated Happy Mother’s Day.
