Monarch Love

July 25, 2023 at 8:37 am by Claudia

Slightly blurry, but I couldn’t get closer or I would have spooked it.

I don’t think this one is from our milkweed, but you never know! I try to keep an eye on the leaves to see if there’s a caterpillar hanging out, but with the crazy weather we’ve had, I haven’t been able to monitor them as much as I normally would. Speaking of weather, the humidity is going to be back today and we’re headed into 4 days of very hot weather with temps in the 90s. More time spent indoors!

I’ll have to check out the forecast and see if I need to take a whack at the front lawn. If there’s rain in the forecast for the next few days, it will get too long. We had a big storm yesterday afternoon.

Do I want to mow today? No. But it will be the least humid day of the rest of the week. I just checked and there is definitely rain in the forecast.

I did a lot around the house yesterday – Don was gone for a chunk of time and I’m always more efficient at getting things done when he isn’t here. The studio has been attended to, with lots of ‘stuff’ put away, I vacuumed upstairs and down, I washed the bedding, watered the houseplants, emptied the dehumidifier bucket, and then – just for me – I read a chunk of War and Peace and a chunk of The Deptford Trilogy.

Okay. Short, I know, but sometimes I just have nothing more to say!

Stay safe.

Happy Tuesday.

I’m reading “Defending Jacob” by William Landay and I sort of wish I could cancel my plans to go out and about so I could stay home and keep reading! Have you had that feeling before, Claudia?
Have a nice day but don’t overdo!

    beautiful butterfly, flowers and photograph.

congratulations on all you accomplished, especially in unpleasant weather … hope you now can take it easy!

i myself am not often great at taking it easy. always seems there is something that needs to be done, plus i’m used to being busy so like being productive. had a busy day yesterday and spent several nights with members of my family so my next opportunity to do things at home is tonight (after an appointment later today for more shots in my throat to hopefully help my voice). i have a list and the air conditioner will be on (supposed to be almost 100), but i will try to be realistic as well as productive. :)

safe mowing. stay safe in the heat and all the time, claudia, don and everyone else. :)

I admire your industry — all that housework PLUS mowing?! Here I am trying to talk myself into deep cleaning our main bathroom before an architect comes Friday to give us yet another bid for renovating it. Untouched since the house was built in ’92, to our shame there’s even still carpeting in it. And we’ve lived here going on 21 yrs. The wildfire smoke is still hanging around today so, as long as I’ll be housebound, I might as well get to it.

    Take care and stay cool.

I swear I smell smoke here. Maybe it’s just beginning to make itself known? That, or it’s smoke from something else.

      Stay safe, Kay.

You had a very productive day yesterday and a nice reading reward for your efforts. I get more done, too, if I’m alone in the house. I wonder why that is?Stay safe in this heat. We just had heavy rain but it did nothing to cool things down. Hugs, Elaine

In my case, I don’t have to worry about making noise or vacuuming around Don or losing my focus. I think that’s why.

      Stay safe, Elaine.

Just a little FYI: save your dehumidifier water for your potted plants. Even back in the day when on well water, I had one spigot I could use before going through filter and water softener and plants did better. But when I decided to recycle the dehumidifier water and use it instead, results were even better. Especially on my hanging ferns. Now living in town and on city water, I make it a point to water from the dehumidifier and when I have enough, even use it on my flower bed.

Thanks, Chris. Although the basement is full of dampness and old stone walls and mold and mildew, so I’m not sure about using it…

I know what you mean, it is easier to clean when the husband is out of the way. In my case, I have a husband and a daughter who are in the way.

Yes. It’s tricky when we have to try to get that accomplished with other people around!

What is it about getting more done when the husband is away? I am the same way. Jim and I have discussed that before…he’s the same way, too. Guess we’d rather goof off when we are together than work…lol.

Beautiful pic. Enjoy your day! ;)

I”m “short” too — gorgeous photo! More smoke in MI and perhaps coming your way — who knows? Take care.

Typing on the laptop keyboard and I hate it!

I was saying that I smell smoke today but there is no indication of an air quality warning. I have a very sensitive nose, so maybe it’s just beginning to make an appearance?

      Or, I’m hallucinating!

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
