Just a quick one this morning, friends. We’re getting a big load of gravel (called Item 4) for our driveway today and the massive truck just arrived. We really need it, as it’s worn very thin in places after 11 years without a refresh. I think that contributed to the excess ice on the driveway last year.
So, Don and I will be spending a few hours raking all of the gravel into place, especially at the top of the driveway.
Exciting, right?
The countdown to our trip has begun and I’m making lists upon lists. Yikes.
Happy Monday.
Oy! The gravel in our driveway is scraped away each year by the snow plows. At least it looks like a cool day for your work. Gorgeous photo today! You turned your little plot of God’s acres into a real paradise. XO
Thank you Nora!
That’ll be a workout. We just had roof work done because of a leak from our neighbor’s a/c unit. It’s actually needed to be fixed for years, but my husband heard this winter will be rainy and cold and rather than listen to me continue complaining, he finally got it taken care of. :) Happy October!
Same to you, Tammy!
Oh, the fun never stops! Baby your backs so you don’t get hurt.
We are. And we realized how hard it was going to be pretty quickly, so we hired a guy to help us.
no need for a gym membership for all you do at your home! take it easy … don’t want any injuries any time and especially not before your big trip!
we have a very gray day here so that photo was an eye-opener … beautiful!
best wishes on the gravel and other stuff on your “to do” list.

Thanks, Kathy!
I saw the piles of gravel on Don’s IG post. Yikes! Take care of your backs. You wouldn’t want to hurt as your start your trip! It’s Fall here finally and I’m enjoying the cooler temps!
We hired a guy to help us, but we did a lot on our own. Then we took a long, long break.
Claudia,
Your coleus are absolutely stunning.
Thanks, Susan!
That’s going to be a workout for sure. Take it slow…no injuries please before your trip! ;)
We’re being careful!
Hi, Claudia, I’ve been away for a while because I was both physically sick (chest cold that stubbornly hung on and sapped all my strength) and sick at heart by what’s going on in DC. So I intentionally stayed off my laptop for a bit. I’ve become so cynical I was afraid it was affecting my ability to get better. Anyway, just caught up with your recent posts and am always glad to visit THIS little corner of the internet for sure.
Your Hummingbird Cottage is just so adorable it makes me smile every time I see it. Good you were successful in your shopping for your trip. I’m getting excited for you and absolutely will be waiting anxiously for your posts about it when you return. Take it easy raking the gravel today. K.
I hope you’re feeling better now, Kay. I’m sorry you’ve been under the weather!
You’re probably right about lack of gravel and ice. When I was a kid, our driveway was 200 feet long and entirely gravel. Every Spring my Dad would plan a Saturday project where the whole family would scour the grass up and down the driveway path, tossing back all the gravel that had been plowed into the grass over the Winter BACK into the path. There was always a lot of it too. Good thing he had 6 kids, it made everything go so much faster. He didn’t get to convert the drive to smooth asphalt until he was retired, so that Springtime Saturday project went on annually for all of us until the late 80s! Take frequent breaks from raking – you don’t want to be totally wiped out when you start out on your European adventure! Peace.

We have to do that every spring. And it’s usually just me! We hired a guy that was recommended by a local landscaping company to help us. Backs are tired!
Hi, Claudia,
I am hoping you will pack a raincoat and warm clothing for your short time in Edinburgh. I live near Edinburgh and the weather is decidedly chilly and dismal. Today I wore gloves for the first time this autumn! It often is four seasons in a day so it’s as well to be prepared.

I have a raincoat and I’ll pack a sweater. Thanks, Carol!
What a show stopper that coleus is! Beautiful❤️
Thank you, Betsy!

Thanks, Nancy!
Happy for you! Enjoy your wonderful trip, and hoping you rest before you go if possible…….looking forward to seeing pictures. You sure have earned a break.
Be safe, will miss your blog and yes, you!
