Monday Morning

July 31, 2023 at 8:41 am by Claudia

Well. Monday morning. Time to pay the bills, time to mow, time to clean up the garden and do some weed whacking. It looks like a lovely day out there with milder temperatures and much less humidity. Never thought it would come!

We’re going to mow this morning – Don is taking the corral, I’m finishing up the part of the front lawn that we didn’t get to last week. Constant rain makes for long grass. We’re busy emptying the dehumidifier bucket – it works so well! I now realize the old one was really on its last legs for a long time. This baby is efficient and we are very happy with it.

Saw one of the groundhogs on the porch the other day. I shooed him away. Then, an hour or so later, I saw a baby bunny on the porch! I’ve never seen any of the many critters on this property so curious about the porch. Chipmunks routinely run across the porch but that’s been it until this summer.

Looking forward to hibernation time in October, if only to have a break from Groundhog Watch.

I’ve been chatting with a friend from college days. We were very close friends during our time studying drama in Michigan. We’re actually going to talk on the phone this week, which I’m really looking forward to. He can do anything; act, direct, design costumes and hats (he designed for the Muppets for years – and SNL, too.) He also designed clothes for dolls, as well as designing his own line of dolls. He’s pretty extraordinary. I’ll share more about him later, but it’s been a joy to reconnect.

Speaking of dolls:

Nina walking Bertie.

Okay. It’s time to make our second cup of coffee and get going!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

thankful for the cooler weather here and for you, too. praying everyone else gets a break from the high heat and humidity.

glad you and that friend could reconnect … how nice for both of you!

nina and i have a similar style … t-shirt and a skirt. i wear them daily and have heard that combination called “public pajamas” … haha. that’s true in a way for being so comfortable. i am all about comfort these days.

long list of things to do today so i best get to it.

hope everyone has a nice day. stay safe.

I used to wear that combo when I was younger, but now, it’s pretty much jeans and t-shirts.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

Your friend sounds fascinating. What an interesting, creative career he’s had.

Heading out to weed again this morning. Let’s both take it easy though and not overdo in our excitement ;-) Wouldn’t it be crazy if August, usually the dog days, turns out to be less humid and more livable than June or July? Nah, won’t happen…

    Hello Bertie!?!
I was wondering if the wardrobe sharing of Barbie to Blythe works both ways?
And thanks for reminding me that I haven’t read the third in the Thursday Murder Club series, it’s now on my TBR list.

The clothes would probably fit Barbie, but they’re cut as little girl clothes, so they wouldn’t look right on her. Perhaps a few of the skirts, or tighter dresses would work.

      Stay safe, Shanna.

I think that’s what I’m going for with my Barbie and in life—some very un-Barbielike clothing choices!

          Go for it!

I’ll try a couple of outfits on her someday and share the results.

          xoxo

I love Bertie. Nina’s pretty cute, too. Were you able to buy any of The Pumpkin Bell dresses that were up for sale yesterday? They’re all sold now, all 13 of them. They were beautiful. I was too late. Nice you and your friend have become reaquainted. Enjoy each other’s company. Hugs, Elaine

I did buy one. It is my one treat for the month, after paying the repair bills. I bought one of her dresses last year, one this year. So maybe this will be a yearly thing? They went very quickly. I was on the site about 5 minutes before the start time, reloading it constantly until the dresses appeared and then I moved very quickly to get one. That’s what you have to do. They, like Moshimoshi clothes, are snapped up immediately. I try to buy in the middle price range, as well.

      Stay safe, Elaine.

Hi Claudia – what brand of dehumidifier did you buy? We may need another one in the near future. Looking forward to learning about your designer friend. May now have to listen ‘Second Cup of Coffee’ by Gordon Lightfoot!

It’s a GE, I think it’s a 50 gallon dehumidifier. It is made for damp rooms and basements and it’s in the color gray. I got it through Home Depot.
      Hope this helps, Cheryl.

      Stay safe.

So nice catching up with your friend. I did that all weekend, but with a friend I’d known since we were two and three — and then they moved a couple of years later. We had been in touch for years so not strangers but we never ran out of things to share!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
