Monday Morning Start of a Heat Wave

July 28, 2025 at 8:40 am by Claudia

I’m still having problems sleeping, but I can usually take a nap during the day, which helps. And I’m trying to take some time away from the news, though it’s a challenge. We are headed into three days of excessive heat – heat indexes of over 100°. You know I love spring and summer and the gardens are looking extremely beautiful right now, but...I am ready for fall.

Really ready. But we’re not even in August yet!

Don just told me the raccoons got in our trash again – they got in the trash a couple of weeks ago, too.

Mama Catbird is currently standing on a branch right near the nest. I’m sure she heard us talking and is on guard duty. I’m usually pretty quiet when I have to go out on the porch. I’ve seen beaks and even a bit of a body, but those are fleeting glimpses that I get while peering through the leaves of the hydrangea. They chose a great spot for their nest.

We checked in with our neighbors about their son who is in the hospital after a motorcycle accident. Fred says he’s improving. They keep the details about his injuries private except to say it will be a ‘long haul.’ They know we are here if they need anything. So that’s all we can do.

I’m trying to finish a book which is now overdue, and I always return my books on time – except this time. There’s somebody on the list waiting for it and I know I’m being rude, but I’m usually a very respectful borrower, so just this once, I’m going to be a wee bit selfish. Reading it will be my assignment for the day, as well as washing the bedding and watering all the plants.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

We’ve been having some cooler weather here, but quite breezy. I’ve been seeing all the weather news about the heat across other parts of the country, so hot. Hope things cool off for you soon. Those raccoons can be so pesky. I’ve got some reading today too.

glad to hear about and, better yet, that you experience those bright bits … emile’s improving health, your hard work showing in the garden, naps being taken, a good book being read … keep going!

best wishes and prayers for getting through the high heat and humidity.

crossed a few big and important things off my to-do list over the past few days, and one more today. lots more to do, of course (life), but am going to enjoy the good feeling of accomplishment and keep going after a little break.

happy days. stay safe in every way.

getting stuff done every day for sure, but some of the things done lately have been big, more serious, and either taken lots of time or couldn’t be done until now. hard, but thankfully it does feel good to cross them off the list.

have a nice night. keep cool!

I’m like you with returning library books on time but sometimes you just have to finish the book. We don’t get charged for overdue books anymore. We do get charged a $1.00 if we put a book on hold and fail to pick it up. Enjoy your reading. Stay cool. Hugs, Elaine

We don’t get charged, either, but I didn’t know that until Don told me..

      Thanks, Elaine.

I hear you on the heat wave. We’ve been in it and still are for another week. It’s grim.

Reading sounds like a fine plan for today. We just got a rain. I thought it would cool it off but I think it may have made it worse!

We had rain yesterday and the windows steamed up. Didn’t help!

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

It has been so hot here also. Scout spent the day with me and we had such a grand time. Looked at my crystals, went out to lunch and we also did some watercoloring. I am such a blessed Grammie!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
