Monday. It may rain, it may not. Yesterday was so lovely, we tried to really be in the moment and lap it up.
Don suggested we sit on the porch since, for once, the weather was good. We sat on the glider. We had to leave because there were so many bees buzzing around the roses and other flowers.
We decided to sit in the secret garden. I got attacked my mosquitoes. We retreated to the house,
So much for sitting outside!
These day lilies are so gorgeous and I often miss them because they’re on the far side of the house. They’re also huge.
I might weed-whack a little today. The area around the secret garden is overgrown because we’ve had so much rain.
We’re sending off our deductions today. I’m glad that chore is finished!
No recent sightings of Buddy, though I did see the older groundhog who lives under the shed sunning himself on the ramp. That reminded me of Henry, who often took advantage of the ramp to watch the world go by. The baby groundhogs have grown up. They’re so big now. I was telling Don that I miss that time right after Mom fiercely moved them all to the other burrow and Buddy would sneak back down here during the day. When it was around 5:30 pm, he’d look around, make sure he was safe, and trot back to the gate, look around again, and make his way into the secret garden and then run up the stepping stones on the little hill. Then he’d run toward the burrow. He was so gosh-darned adorable.
But kids grow up so quickly, don’t they?
Katie bonding with The Dude.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

too bad about the mosquitoes spoiling time outdoors (i understand … i have five bites myself right now). hopefully you can get outside again soon and not be bugged and bothered.
hooray for getting taxes done and on their way! i hope the numbers are in your and don’s favor.
getting new tires on my car right now, will then get/deliver groceries, make some more sketch/paint books (with help from kinko’s), run a couple more errands, shower and then enjoy time with members of my family. :)
we (like most of the country) have a hot week ahead … every day for the next five days is supposed to be 95 to 99, with no chance of rain… ugh! i know other places have it worse. hope everyone is safe, comfortable.
happy monday and stay safe in every way!

We also have a hot week ahead but more towards the weekend. At least it won’t be triple digits like some of the readers are dealing with.
Stay safe, Kathy.

I didn’t really understand well the saying “The days are long but the years are short.” Until I raised four kids and they were grown and gone in the blink of an eye. Really, a blink of an eye.
Claudia says
I bet! That’s what my mom said. And in that vein, Little Z’s voice changed on Mother’s Day and it’s quite deep!
Stay safe, Tana.
Shanna says
Ugh. Mosquitos! Hate, hate, hate!
Katie’s outfit is cute and summery—love the striped pants and rolled cuffs. Everybody needs a little Dude time.
Your Barbie from yesterday is like my original was in 1959—black curly bangs and ponytail. Mr Wizard surprised me with a repro version a few weeks ago. I have plans to make her some fun Florida clothes, but haven’t started any yet. My days are short and so are my years. My to do list is extremely long and my list of accomplishments is pretty short. Oh, well.
Claudia says
Mr. Wizard is such a good guy!
You’ll get to the clothes when you can.
Stay safe, Shanna.

We had a mosquito buzzing around us in the dark in bed the other night. Almost drove us crazy as we were slapping ourselves silly in the dark, clapping our hands together and hoping we nabbed him… eventually it stopped. No carcass was found.
Claudia says
Oh, that used to drive me crazy. Especially when I was a camp counselor. It was impossible to keep them out of the cabins and the tents!
Stay safe, Jeanie.

That Katie is a cutie! I love her hair and she looks like she’s very happy in the outdoors. The weather here over the weekend actually felt like summer without humidity, smoke, or torrential rains. I spent a good hour at the bottom of our driveway listening to the Birds who were having a field day. You’re day Lillie’s are dreamy.
Claudia says
Wasn’t the weather beautiful? I think we’re back to humidity today, Nora.
Stay safe.
Kay in SE WI says
One blessing from our lack of rain: no mosquitos. None!! That is a first and something I’m really enjoying this summer. Too bad you got chased inside on one of the few nice days. Can’t win. We’re back to poor air quality again because of wildfire smoke. Chased me in the house too. Was talking with my youngest brother’s widow down in Dallas this morning and at least we aren’t dealing with triple digit heat. What a summer.
Claudia says
Oh darn it! That smoke has been haunting us all summer long!
Stay safe, Kay.

Katie is so cute with her little shoes and socks.
Ugh, mosquitoes; haven’t had a problem with them for years where I live in Southern Calif. But, gosh, you’ve been so ‘wet’ in the Northeast for so long.
Get this: On the phone with my sister-in-law on Monday and she casually drops that she has her original Barbie brunette bubble-cut doll AND a fuzzy-haired Ken doll from the early 60s. I’m sure I fell to the floor in astonishment. How could I have ever not known she had these dolls. I said to her, “What kind of shape are they in?” She said, “I never played with them; I never took them out of the box; in the early 60s, I was a tomboy and didn’t play with dolls but the aunties thought I should have Barbie.” I said, “You might be sitting on a small fortune; those dolls are worth some money.”
She pledged to send me a photo of them. This woman has been in my life over thirty years and she never mentioned anything about Barbies. The only reason it came up is that she and her husband, for kicks, are going to a benefit drag-queen show where Barbies will be performing. The discussion had started as we were exclaiming over the current Barbie craze with the new Barbie movie, and moviegoers showing up in Barbie pink and blonde wigs at the theaters, reminiscent of what went on for years (maybe still does) with viewings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show from the 70s. Anyway, sounds like the new Barbie movie will end up being another cult classic.
Claudia says
Wow! She is sitting on some cash, isn’t she?
I really want to see the movie. And, to my surprise, Don said he did, too!
Stay safe, Vicki.
Vicki says
Oh, yeah, I definitely want to see the movie, the more I hear about it. I trust in Greta Gerwig’s instincts and skill. I’ll wait for pay-per-view in the comfort of my living room. I agree with you; I found, years ago, that movie theaters were just too darned noisy for my liking.
Claudia says
Exactly!
