Friday.
We have another ‘event’ coming this evening, but the guidance from various weather forecasters is wildly different. Yesterday: 8-12 inches with sleet and ice. Then 5-8 inches with sleet and ice. The National Weather Service says 1 -3 inches with sleet and ice. And our local guys now say 1- 3 inches. Obviously, when you factor in ice, I much prefer 1 -3 inches. Yesterday, we had a high of 53 degrees, so much of the snow from Monday night has melted.
Right now, it’s sunny. The calm before the storm.
Thank you, Mother Nature, for giving us an entire winter in one week.
Grateful for the snow for our water table. But very ready for spring.
I ended up running to the library yesterday to pick up two more books. I have to read 3 books in 3 weeks time. I can do it! Yes, I can!
A story from yesterday. Don went to the store to stock up on things. While he was gone, I vacuumed, swiffered, sorted through things, straightened up, etc. So I was fairly busy. When I was finished, I sat down in my chair. Couldn’t find my cell phone. Okay. Got up, looked everywhere. No cell phone. I’d been in the house all day, so it couldn’t be in my car (I had yet to go to the library.) Looked everywhere again. Then I thought, I’ll have Don call my number so I can hear the phone ring. Ummm…no. Don isn’t here and you no longer have a landline, so you can’t call him. I had no way of communicating with him! Such a strange feeling. I finally came to the conclusion that Don must have it.
I sat down and checked to see if I had a message from Don via email. Sure enough, he had reached into one of his pockets and found my cell phone. He told me later that he just stood there in the grocery store staring at the phone trying to figure out why he had two phones with him. Thank goodness, I wasn’t expecting an important call!
I finally gave up waiting for him to get home and went to the library.
Let’s close with this photo of Monty, Lucy, and a carrot.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

Did it feel strange to go to the library without your phone? I remember the days when we didn’t have phones and I lived in fear of a car problem. In those times, they’d warn us women not to get out of the disabled car and walk to a call box, even in broad daylight, at least in Southern California. I’d worry if it happened to me and I’d have to sit in the car for hours til a legit police officer might happen upon me and offer help; otherwise, I’d have probably eschewed help from a stranger. It’s a shame that young, single women had to feel afraid of being stranded and alone with no way to easily call a family member, friend or an emergency service if the car broke down; of course we also had no 911. Still, with the very fact of being young and not wanting to miss out, I’d still party at night and often come home alone to my dark apartment in the wee hours out on the roads. I was more of a risk-taker then!

It felt strange, yes. I’m so used to having it when I go anywhere. But, the library is about a mile from my house. I could walk into any shop and ask to borrow a phone if I needed one. It was in the middle of the afternoon, as well. I don’t think I’d do it at night.
Stay safe, Vicki.

It’s strange how dependent we have become on phones in our lifetime. We wouldn’t have carried a phone when we were kids and didn’t think anything of it. Now we panic to go without them. I am not sure which is better to tell you the truth. ;)
Claudia says
Neither am I. Both Don and I remarked that we are too tethered to our phones. Spent most of my life without one!
Stay safe, Ellen.
Elaine in Toronto says
Glad you solved the mystery of your missing phone. Neither my husband nor I have a cell phone. Crazy, eh? We may just have to bite the bullet and get one. Lucy looks very fetching today. Cute hat. We’re getting the same storm you are, Claudia. Everytime they talk about it, they increase the amount of snow expected. It’s now up to a foot! Yikes! Time to bake that apple pie! Stay safe in the storm. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Best to have one, especially if your car breaks down or you need to check in with each other.
Stay indoors and stay safe and enjoy that pie, Elaine!
Elaine in Toronto says
We ate our pie by candlelight as our power went off twice in the storm last night. It wasn’t off for long, thank goodness. It was quite the storm – thunder, lightening, windy and snowy. Hope you’re both okay. Don’t overdo the shovelling. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Pie by candlelight sounds pretty wonderful but only if the power was only off for a while!

You know…I almost feel naked without my cell phone nowadays. But I fondly remember the days when we weren’t tied to our phones as we (I) seem to be these days.
I’m happy you are not going to get wholloped by snow starting tonight. Mother Nature is being very kind…to us as well. The snow predicted here is going south of us…sorry Chicago. But…yay.
And my husband is doing quite well despite having surgery on Wednesday. He’s home now…and I cannot thank you all enough for the positive vibes and prayers. I’m convinced they helped! Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
We may get ice/sleet, which is not pleasant. But we’ll stay indoors.
So glad your husband is doing well. Wonderful news.
Stay safe, Donnamae.
kathy says

hope you both have an easy, low-key weekend at home!

Thanks…hope you have a good weekend too! ;)

glad to hear the predicted snowfall gets less and less for you. and that they’ve taken ice out of your forecast.
glad for you to have more books and puzzles to enjoy, no matter the weather.
here it’s been so mild lately that i found a fly buzzing around in my apartment last night. too soon. too soon! (bugs not welcomed indoors at all actually … bleh).
it would be easy for me to pick up a family member’s phone by mistake because they are so similar. there’s been a couple times where i left my phone at one of their homes and only realized it when i tried to call them from a store to see if i could get something for them or to tell them that i was home. not a good feeling anymore to be without a phone handy, especially when out at night or in bad weather. anyway … glad the mystery of your missing phone was solved. :)
lots to do here. best i get to the not-fun things so i can then get to the fun ones.
hope everyone has a good, safe day full of fun things!

Claudia says
Oh, they haven’t taken the ice out of the forecast, it’s still there.
Just less snow.
Stay safe, Kathy.
kathy in iowa says

I love your husband’s music. The one with Caroline in the title is one of my favorites. Thanks for putting me into his songs. Soothing. In the late afternoon, I sit on my tiny little patio, feeling the ocean breeze, and listen to his songs. Oh my. Takes me back to my younger years. Glad you got to the library. When I go to Indy for some celebrations in May, although a quick turnaround , I hope to visit my favorite ladies at the library where one grand worked summers during college and one volunteer tweeted for years in high school and middle school. Love it love it. As to cell phones. They give us no privacy
Lol. However, have to have it.
Claudia says
Such sweet words, Brenda. Thank you. I read them aloud to Don and he is most appreciative.
Stay safe!
Brendab says
Leave out tweeted in my response etc
I was listening to music and these old hands couldn’t type lol

Do you have an Alexa? If so, just say, “ Alexa, where’s my phone?” And it will ring. It has saved me many a time!! Jen
Claudia says
No, we don’t use Alexa.
Thanks, Jen.
Stay safe.

I hope you don’t get slammed with too much snow. I think (THINK) we got on the light end of the projected 6-12 for our area with maybe four inches, give or take. Well, assuming it is over. Rick is off to a camping/kayaking expo with talks and such today but I think he might take a ski first — he’s missed it and they say this won’t last long. Me? I’ll be bringing out a few bunnies and spring things. It’s time. And painting. I’m doing an online “imaginary butterfly” class which is really out of my wheelhouse but getting me back into painting. It’s a good day for it.
I ordered a couple of Galaxy puzzles — the London city one (I think you might have done that but I can’t remember) and Klimt’s “The Kiss,” which MIGHT be a birthday gift for someone if I can bear to part with it. I now have five (if you count the Kiss) to do — the Agatha Christie (do you have that, too? It’s like your Dickens, I think), a photo of the Queen in her coronation robes at Westminster Abbey, and some cats. I’m set for a long while!
Claudia says
It’s the combination of snow, sleet, and ice that is unwelcome. We’re leaving it alone for awhile, hoping the above freezing temperatures will melt a lot of it.
I’ve done the Agatha Christie. It’s fun! I’m looking forward to new designs from that company – I’ve done all of them except for one about Sylvester Stallone. No desire to work on that one.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
jeanie says
I’d skip Stallone too! Hope your temps take care of the ice!
