Mowing, Cleaning, Puzzling

September 24, 2022 at 8:51 am by Claudia

The view out the side door this morning. The light in autumn is simply beautiful.

It went down to 39 degrees last night and we had to turn the heat on this morning. It was really cold! It will warm up a bit this week, so this cold – for now – was a one time thing.

I mowed A LOT yesterday. And yes, you could immediately assume I mowed too much and you’d be right. I did the lilac side of the front lawn, the corral, the secret garden and part of the front lawn. My back was hurting by the end, but I’m much better today. We have to finish off the front lawn and, at some point, this next week, mow the back forty. I also have to weed whack but my back sometimes hurts from holding it. If I’m smart, I’ll do a little each day.

But, boy, did it feel good to actually so some work outside. After a few weeks of having to lay low, I really appreciated the opportunity to mow. Plus, the temperatures were cool, which made the whole thing much more pleasant.

I started on the puzzle and have most of the edge pieces in place.

I need to clean up my part of the office today. It’s completely out of control! Don put his area in order last week and now I’m embarrassed at the contrast.

My nesting instincts have taken hold. Every fall, like clockwork, I want to concentrate on our house and making it cozy. I have no plans, per se, but I’m suddenly aware again of my surroundings in a way I’m not when it’s summer and the gardens are blooming.

Mowing today, the puzzle, washing towels, cleaning up my wee studio, looking at the Beacon Hill and contemplating what I want to do with it. I want an overall style, but I’m not sure yet what it will be. In the meantime, I have to prime that all-red room that’s driving me nuts! I need a clean, clear palette, then I can think about what I want to do.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

    yes, beautiful light!

glad your back felt good for mowing and puzzling and that the heating pad was enough for you to bounce back.

same weather forecast here. i am grateful for the cooler temperatures … i love sweater (more realistically, sweatshirt) weather!

i want to share a little success story. on walks, members of my family and i mainly use two trails. on one path we spotted in a deep group of trees a tree with a wire fence around it. i checked and the fencing was so tight i couldn’t get anything between it and the tree. my sister called the city to ask about that tree and i made a sign to “please free the tree” and attached it to the fence with lots of colorful yarns dangling about. it took two days, but someone (from the city? another trail-walker?) did indeed free the tree and that made/makes us very happy for the tree. :)

almost 8:30 here so i need to get going. my to-do list is very long today!

hope you, don and everyone else here have a very happy, easy saturday! stay safe.

Yes it was soooo cold this morning. We haven’t put the heat on yet, we are being very frugal with the oil. We know the oil prices will be very high this winter.
Monday our new oil tank will be coming. Thousands out of the savings but what can we do? This is a necessity. This week my computer died and it would be over seven hundred dollars to fix it. That was a no brainer, I needed a new computer. It will be here in a week. On retirement it is not as easy to save as when we were working, but we carry on and thank God he supplies our needs. Maybe you should look into someone helping you with yard work.

We have to order oil this week. I always dread the cost.

We’re not ready to have someone help us with yard work. It’s too complicated and we’re the ones who know the property. Besides, we like doing it.

      Stay safe, Linda.

Mockingbird Hill Cottage is all ready cozy. It’s a perfect day for a little antique excursion but alas not nearly as many markets, shops or shows as there once were, but even visiting the thrift stores are fun. You never know what you might find.

Three months today is Christmas Eve and the stores are already putting out Christmas. I must admit I’ve been doing some Christmas shopping on-line myself.

Hope you and Don enjoy your weekend. Hugs, Elaine

I can’t even think about Christmas yet. Thanksgiving and my birthday come well before Christmas!

      Stay safe, Elaine.

I love the autumn light. It is by far my favorite season. Sounds like you didn’t hurt your back too much mowing, yay! And you did work on your puzzle, too? That’s a win for your back.

I know what you mean about the nesting feeling. I’m trying to spruce things up little by little, make it cozier on the inside, while trying to coach a few tomatoes still left on my plant…and peppers as well. An early frost is a concern.

Enjoy your office clean up! ;)

Every year, I worry about an early frost. We almost had one on Friday night. Thankfully, we didn’t. But it seems to come earlier every year.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Love that light. I’m seeing it here, too. I’m with you on the nesting instincts. I keep trying to pare down (and not at all successfully). It’s harder, I find, when your body isn’t doing what it’s supposed to do and then the worry sets in on top of it. But hopefully I’ll get something done this weekend.

I’m so glad your back is improving and hope it keeps up. It sounds like you have some lovely projects to tackle. (I suspect sharing a studio provides loads of motivation for tidying!)

    Happy weekend.

It does. One of us will start to feel guilty at our messy little space and cleaning ensues.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Claudia, I was thinking of you earlier….I was looking at the online site that is auctioning the things from Betty White’s estate. There were quite a few puzzles! Many of them seemed to be of animals…of course!

Glad you were able to get outside and do some mowing…

Did I just see your husband in an Indeed commercial? If it wasn’t him, it sure looked like him!

I am also trying to put my house back together. They finished putting all our new windows in today. They look really nice and will save us on electric bills. Our whole house is electric.
Didn’t realize how bad ours looked until we put the new ones in. One more project done. The joys of being a homeowner. Claudia your house always looks cozy to me. Glad you got to do some mowing. Take care of your back!

Such a pretty picture!! I never understood the “spring cleaning” ideas. When spring finally arrives I am sooooo excited to get outside and play in the dirt, it is hard to stay indoors. I embrace ‘fall cleaning’ and that is when I usually do heavy indoor cleaning getting ready to be spending time indoors, getting ready for the holidays, etc. General nesting!!

It was quite cool here today and cloudy all day. Hope you are having a good weekend. Take care.

I do get an urge near Spring, but it’s usually around February.

      Stay safe, Chris!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
