My Blog Book

February 27, 2010 at 10:01 am by Claudia

Hello everyone! We have had a rough couple of days – snow, sleet, wind, power outages – just plain yucky. Luckily, the longest power outage so far was just 2 hours. Though it is inconvenient, I realize it could be much worse. Nevertheless, I am well and truly sick of winter. Officially. Be gone, Winter! Welcome, Spring! (Am I jumping the gun, do you think?)

I’ve been wanting to share this with you for quite some time. However, I wanted my parents to have their own copy as a surprise, so I had to wait until they received their copy in the mail. What is it? It is my very own hardcover book containing the blog posts and photos from my first year of blogging. I got it through Blurb. Since I first put this together last summer, there are even more blog to book sites available, but I am happy with Blurb. (This isn’t a plug for Blurb, by the way, this is just my experience with this process!)

I wanted a permanent record of my posts as they do indeed chronicle our life here at Mockingbird Hill Cottage. I was so excited last summer when my copy arrived. Oh, I see several volumes lined up prettily on my bookshelf, just waiting to be thumbed through.

If you’re interested in something like this there are all sorts of price ranges and sites available. I chose a hardcover version. In the case of Blurb, you just go to their site, download the software and then get to work editing your posts and photos. Actually, it isn’t work at all – it’s fun.

I learned a great deal working on the first volume and just finished editing the second volume. Since I post a lot more than I did the first year, this one will be twice as many pages. I’ve learned more about editing the photos and I’ve changed the post font to the same font I use on my blog – papyrus. The only thing lacking is the ability to show my blog background on each page, but that is a minor complaint.

I don’t write in a journal. In fact, I tried for many years to journal and failed miserably. When I started to blog it quickly became clear to me that blogging was my form of journaling. I spend a lot of time taking photos and writing and editing my posts; I am thrilled to have a book which is a permanent record of them.

I’ll be sure to post about Mockingbird Hill Cottage – the second year when it arrives.

Hey, does this mean that I am a published author?

I’d heard of folks doing this, but I’d never actually seen the ‘finished result’. Yours looks really awesome, and makes me want to do one myself.

Are you able to choose which posts and pictures and placement and such? There’s posts I’d rather not have set down for posterity :)

I’m with you on the weather too….’twas a harsh reality to come back from Florida to this freezing white cold.

What a neat idea, honey! I think I’m going to look them up and try it. I’m not a “journalist” either but my church recommends we write in a journal every night. I’ve never been successful at that. Like you, I do my journaling on line with blogging. How wonderful to be able to see it in print, chick; I’m going there right now.

    Good Morning Sweetie…
What a beautiful idea. CeeKay @ Thinkin of Home had her blog put into a book, however she said she did not get the hard cover, and she is so sorry she did not. For the 10.00 difference she said it was so worth it. How beautiful yours is. I have not been blogging a year yet. That will be in June so maybe I will wait until I have a full book to print it. It would definitely give my folks something to read. I love it. Thank you for sharing sweetie. I so love it when you do. Have a beautiful Saturday. Please stay warm and dry. Country hugs and much love…Sherry

Wow, Claudia! Congratulations. The book looks fabulous. Would love to do something like that, too, but wonder if it’s very expensive. Will check it out. I’m sure your parents will love it, too! How interesting you and your husband moved from the west coast to the east. Hope the hard winter didn’t make you wonder about moving! ha! But right now, people in California are a little worried about the weather, I’d say. Anyway, thanks for your post! Sincerely, Susan from writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com

I have been wanting to make a blog book of the posts I’ve done over Amelia to give as a gift to her grandparents. I am glad to hear first-hand that you like Blurb.
I am also glad to see that we can edit our photos and posts for the book! How exciting! Isn’t blogging the best?!

    Hello Claudia,

Yes, indeed..you are a published author! :0) I’ve looked at Blurb and some of the other ones too…self publication is so easy these days.

I’m going to do this too. My first year of regular blogging was last year..I think in 2008 I only had 75 posts. Blogging is the best way to journal in my opinion..since I can’t seem to write this stuff down.

    Have a great week..

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
