I’m more than a little in love with this creature.
She seems to have sprung up as if by magic from a Hansel and Gretel-y type woods. I can imagine her playing with the bunny rabbits on our property. Surely they would get along?
She’s not perfect, but I’m not either. When I make another one, and I will, I will do things a little differently. I learned a lot on this project. And let me say that there’s a reason I don’t make my own clothes. Enough said.
Nevertheless, I’m in love with her. Alicia called her creation Maggie Rabbit and I thought to myself, I must change her name. But then I thought about my great-aunt Maggie who died in 1920 during the terrible flu epidemic and remembered that my mother’s middle name is Margaret in honor of Maggie. So Maggie it is.
I hesitate to share this with you as she might be embarrassed.
Here she is, sans clothes and pre-nose. Don’t tell her I’m posting this on my blog. Years from now when she’s older, she’ll be mortified.
She and Wayfrum immediately bonded.
See? They’re holding hands.
Then Little Lamb joined in.
Meet my housemates. On the left, Wayfrum Holmes, with Little Lamb in the center and Maggie Rabbit on the right.
This project was so much fun! I’m not the most patient or even remotely adequate hand sewer in the world and there was a lot of blanket stitch which took me a bit of time to master. Heck, I didn’t master it, but I did get better at it. I want to make another one out of fabric. I’ve saved all the pattern pieces and the directions for future use. I know that Alicia plans to offer these kits again, so keep your eye on her blog for the details. If you’re at all interested, jump on one. I guarantee they will go quickly – she sold out of thousands of these kits in the blink of an eye.
I’m feeling better – that headache was the all day kind that increasingly got worse as I tried to coach and fulfill my other obligations. I used to get those headaches more frequently, but thankfully, I rarely get them anymore. Still stuffy, still sneezy and have watery eyes – but this, too, shall pass.
I have rehearsal this afternoon and then Don is picking me up for 2 days at home. Since Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be days where I can’t really do any one-on-one work, I figured this would be a good time to snag a few days back at the cottage. On Wednesday I’ll come back and move from the hotel to the apartment. (I’ll miss the hotel. I’m settled in here and am not thrilled with packing everything up and moving it all – again.)

Happy Sunday.
Claudie, she is absolutely adorable! Soooooo cute!
What do you mean you can’t sew clothes? That dress is perfect. And I love the fact that Little Lamb is one of her friends and accmpained you to Hartford! That makes me happier than I can say. And that Waygrum is as cute as can be, too.
I’m happy that you are getting a chance to spend some time with Don and Scout. I know you’ll enjoy every minute!
Love to you, my friend…
XO,
Sheila
Love to you, Sheila. Of course, Little Lamb had to accompany me!
Waygrum? No. WayFrum? Yes. I really cannot see what I type. Really. Sad, but true. ;-)
XO,
Sheila
I type too fast and make lots of mistakes when I comment!
She is just adorable. She is not perfect you say? Then she is just like the rest of us. My Mom made one for me years ago that I still have…Roberta the Rabbit. Enjoy your time at home.
She’s pretty adorable, indeed.
Maggie is lovely. I think hand sewing is very relaxing and a nice project to do in a hotel room. Have a great week. Regula
It has been very nice making this bunny while I have been away from home.
Oh, I love Maggie Rabbit! I think she is just adorable. Not perfect…who could tell? Tell Maggie that none of us are perfect and she’ll fit right in. I’m assuming you found some Polyfill somewhere? Enjoy your couple of days back at home!
I borrowed a company car on Friday morning and took a quick jaunt to Joann’s.
I can see why you are smitten with Maggie Rabbit…she is adorable! And she and Wayfrum make a handsome, but unconventional pair…just like the rest of us! ;)
She and Wayfrum are becoming fast friends.
:) So cute!
Thank you, Lisa Lynn!
Ah, I think she is beautiful. It makes me happy they are taking care of you.
Enjoy your days at home.
They are taking very good care of me, Beverly.
I see! You travel with your own entourage and/or roadies!! Maggie is sweet. You did a great job on her.
Have a good couple of days at home.
Judy
Yes, Judy, they are my entourage! I can’t wait to get home and see what you’ve sent me. Don says a package arrived.
I’m in love with Maggie!!
I think you did a beautiful job and she looks like a very happy little girl. ( I love her dress!!) I’m patiently waiting for the next bunny shipment to come out (I missed out last time)and check in daily at Rosie little things.
Enjoy your days off at home with your family!!
Lori
I will cross my fingers for you, Lori.
Maggie Rabbit is quite charming and I must say I like that she isn’t ‘perfect’ cause who is?? She belongs with you and your other housemates. So glad you are feeling better and that you will also get a few days at home!
hugs,
Linda
I’m looking forward to spending about 48 hours with the family.
Adorable Claudia! Your little friends look so cute together on your beautiful quilt. I love to make a nest of things I love wherever I am too. Have a lovely weekend with Don & Scout!
XO, Linda
Thank you, Linda!
Too cute! Looks like you did a great job. I’ve had a lot of allergy/horrible headaches in my day so you have my sympathy. And I have an aunt who is fond of saying, “This too shall pass.” True.
Those headaches are not fun at all, Diane.
She is precious as I suspected she would be..What a happy little traveling family they are..Enjoy every moment of your time at home..I am wishing you good weather so that you may putter in your garden a bit and soak in the sunshine and fresh air as I have been doing..It feels so wonderful..Have a safe trip home..Hugs..
Unfortunately, Nancy, it looks like rain here. Why can it be sunny for a week and the minute I get home, it rains?
I love your Maggie Rabbit Claudia! You have to send Alicia a picture so she can add it to her pinterest board of Maggie Rabbits. It definitely would have to be with Wayfrum and Little Lamb on your beautiful quilt! Glad you’re feeling better, enjoy your time at home.
Thank you, Kim.
Great job Claudia ~ I love Maggie’s ears and boots. The trio appears to be having a good time away from home. Enjoy your time back at the homestead. xo
They are back at the hotel, guarding my room.
You did a great job on Maggie! You’ll always remember bringing her to life while you were in Hartford. Are you going to knit her shawl? I used a magenta alpaca and silk blend for mine, the green was too muted for me. Alicia is creating some more knitting patterns for the Maggies – a sweater and a dress.. that will be fun. Have fun at home!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)
I’m not so thrilled with that shawl. I do love the muted yarn color, but I feel the shawl needs something…maybe I should crochet a shawl?
Darling! Just so cute, and how cozy and comforting Maggie, Wayfrum, and Little Lamb make your home away home (along with those beautiful quilts). Have a great week! Bess
Thank you, Bess – you, too!
What an adorable bunny! She turned out beautifully, and I absolutely love the fabric of her dress–very Liberty-esque. A wonderful new companion for your ‘home away from home’. I hope you enjoy your days back at the cottage with Don and your furry girl!
It IS Liberty, Leisa. Good eye!
Maggie Rabbit somehow speaks to us. I’m sure she’ll keep Wayfrum out of mischief with her stories of a gentler time.
I hope so, Dewena. She will be his role model.
I love your Maggie. She resembles Gracie’s Maggie and Teresa’s Maggie but each one is an individual in her own way. It’s a good thing she’s there to keep Wayfrum and Little Lamb company when you’re busy working. I can only imagine how excited you are to go home and see Don and Scout.
Blessings,
Betsy
I think my little trio is very happy together, Betsy!
Maggie, Wayfrum, and Lil’ Lamb…make a nice trio of friends to keep you company while you’re working out of town.
Hope you enjoy your 2 days with Don and Scout!
take care, friend. Pat
Thank you, Pat!
She’s adorable. Enjoy your trip home.
Laura
I will, Laura.
Oh Claudia, she’s adorable, and quit pooh-poohing your talents…..she turned out wondrous. I just had my “upcycled” light bulb doll class this last Saturday, and believe me it was a challenge for me with different levels of knowledge on top of my crappy hand sewing. Everyone enjoyed themselves and were relatively happy with their dolls…….of course they wanted them to look like mine, but that’s not the point…….is it? I love seeing all the differences and ideas that come from each student, and I cherish their uniqueness. You’ve created the perfect little country cottage bunny.
Hugs,
Meri
Oh I want one, I want one I will definitely try to buy one to make once Alicia has more for sale! You did a great sewing job Claudia – Miss Maggie looks perfect to me. I have a pair of boots so similar except mine are olive green! I’ve always loved Liberty’s Tana prints – to soft, fine cotton, and so smooth aren’t they?
Enjoy the visit home – sorry you have to move again but know you’ll soon have the apt. ‘decorated’ and you’ll get comfy with your traveling friends in tow.
Hugs – Mary
She’s adorable and probably doesn’t eat much..
I love the colors of this quilt. You mentioned that you are using a “layer cake” for the quilt you are currently making, did you use one for this quilt as well? Or a jelly roll/charm pack? If so, which one did you use? I am not a quilter, but I love, love, love the colors of this quilt and think I would make one if I didn’t have to pick the fabrics and cut them myself.
Erin :)
No, I didn’t use a layer cake or jelly roll for this quilt. Many of the fabrics are by Kaffe Fassett and I gathered them together more than 4 years ago. Some were from my stash.
I know what you mean about having to pick the fabrics! I really like NOT having to choose lots of fabrics and layer cakes, jelly rolls, etc. are so much more convenient!
Claudia,
Maggie is adorable! I just ordered her and I am going to knit the dress! The quilt is perfect. Have a good time back at the cottage.
Carol
