My Spare Time

June 11, 2009 at 10:04 pm by Claudia

Some of you have asked what I am sewing. Well, I am sewing together quilt blocks. This is one I have been working on for a long time – too long – and I promised myself I would complete the top while I was in San Diego. I have about 6 rows sewn together.

I’ve also been sewing some blocks for an online quilt along – I thought it would keep me occupied during the day – my work at the theater has moved to the evenings. I used some fabric I had on hand. This will probably be a throw kind of quilt. (You can see the hideous carpeting here at the apartment; something all of us staying here at the various apartments have commented on.)

And, with the scraps from the quilt along, I made these 2 hearts.

It keeps me off the streets.

They’re just beautiful, Claudia! I remember quilting with my grandma . . . she had the big ‘ol quilting frame in her awful basement, but they were good times!

The pillows are too cute! Glad you have something to “keep you off the streets!” LOL!!

I’m so disappointed… I liked thinking of you out in the streets. Night life with the students, stolling home at the crack of dawn. O Darn.

The quilt is the perfect need for that cold days. :-) Quilting is a lot of work. Piecing lots fabrics together and choosing the designs. My hands down to you Claudia. And have to add that those soft heart pillows are darling :-)

Love the quilts and the hearts are fantastic. So beautiful.

I would have loved to meet Rhoda as she seemed so sweet. But I think if I had a choice I would meet Maggie. She had horrible scolisis and had to be in pain. Gram never mentioned her only Rhoda, then we chatted with Elva who told us that Maggie was wonderful. We were surprised. I used to think Gram didn’t mention her because of her back, but now I think maybe she loved her so much it was hard to talk about her.

Darling Darling hearts – and as always, when I open your blog and see the lovely blues I am made glad. I love that header!

Quilting is like a mystical art to me, it is larger than I am somehow and I leave it to talented souls like you to create and myself to marvel at and enjoy.

Tomorrow for Pink Saturday I’m featuring a slideshow of lovely flowers from my Dad’s gardens around his home on the St. Croix River in Wisconsin.

Today I have a post on Slide, an application that lets you have slideshows on your blog, website whatever.

    Take Care, J

Your quilts and hearts are lovely. Great fabric combinations. I hope the sewing makes your last few weeks go by quickly…and you’ll have beautiful quilts in the end!

They are both wonderful. I like to quilt too. I am still working on my first quilt though because I am handquilting it all. It is a railyard quilt too. The pillows you made from the scraps are cute too.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
