The ‘New’ Mirror

July 20, 2011 at 2:53 pm by Claudia

Did you notice anything new in this photo from Where Bloggers Create?

You’re right if you guessed the mirror hanging on the stairway landing. Actually, it’s not new. I’ve had it for years. My mom and I saw it in a little antique store in Rogers City Michigan (my parents used to live there) and she bought it for me. Somehow or other, during the move to this house, it ended up in the infamous shed. Don rescued it and said we should have it in the cottage. He was right.

I had forgotten how pretty it is. (Hi, Riley!)

I love the floral design on the frame and the etched glass. It’s very old. I like very old things.

I remember wrapping it up and carrying it home on the plane. Thanks, Mom!

Some of you saw the word ‘surgeon’ and assumed I was having my surgery tomorrow. I’m not. I’m just meeting with the surgeon. If only it was tomorrow. I have no idea when they are going to schedule it but I am pushing for ‘as soon as possible.’ It’s like jumping into cold water; I just want to jump in and get it done with.

We’re heading into a heat wave here. 95 degrees tomorrow and Friday with a heat index of over 100. Yikes.

I love older mirrors of all shapes and sizes. The older the better.

Very hot here too.. The news said it is a ‘heat dome’ over nearly the entire U.S. Strange, but at least we are all suffering together and Mother Nature is not playing favorites.

Yikes is right! We’re breaking all kinds of heat records this month and I’m the least bit happy about it! Gosh, that mirror is gorgeous! I love very old things myself. That is just one of the prettiest antique mirrors I have ever seen. Enjoy your day! Twyla

    That is a beautiful mirror!!!!!
My daughter who just moved from AZ to SC posted a photo of her car thermometer reading of 108 and said she thought she had left AZ. But, now she has the humidity, too! It’s been over 100 a few days here and in the mid to upper 90s almost everyday all summer. Miserable. We did get rain during the night, though.
I hope you can get your surgery sooooooonnnnnn!

I love old mirrors. We have a few in our home, too. You have such lovely windows in your house. I noticed in one of the photos. “Hi Riley….you have the same name as my 1 yr. old grand-daughter.”

    Love your blog, Claudia.

Claudia- I’ve just spent a few moments trying to catch up on your blog a little bit. Your garden is so beautiful- I love the liatris. I hope that you are able to have surgery very soon and that you start to feel tons better afterwards. I also just finished reading all about your studio a few posts down and it made me so happy. Even though I don’t have time to create much right now, just looking at your wonderful space for creating made my heart sing. I’m glad I visited you today- take care of yourself and I’ll be thinking lots and lots of positive thoughts for you on your surgery ♥

Lord have mercy on us. It’s a real scorcher here today. Tomorrow the worst and then a cool off. That water bill is going to be something. I may have to go in hiding.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

    Hugs,
    Kate

Oh that etched glass just makes the extra sweet. I wouldn’t have passed it up either. Sorry to hear about your gallbladder woes. Hopefully they’ll give you a quick schedule today.

Wishing you an easy and speedy recovery!

    Hey Girlfriend,

Come on out here and I’ll show you what hot is…….;o) 100 degrees is almost springlike!

That’s one beautiful mirror, so glad it’s not hiding anymore. I love old things, too, which is just one of the reasons I love my husband…….ooops, did I write that out loud?

Love your mirror; and my gosh, YES, I’m glad to hear something so beautiful is not buried away in the shed anymore! (0; I don’t know how this day is going to go, but with no air conditioning, I’m more concerned for the animals than I am for myself! I’ve set all the window fans to blow OUT-ward, and have double-stocked up on the ice cubes in the freezer. I’m hoping we’ll get to go for a swim later at Dear Daughters, but it’s a shame we can’t bring our poor furbabies along… Whatever you’re doing, hope you’re keeping cool and comfortable, and that you can enjoy your day! ~tina

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
