A New Treasure & Artful Blogging

December 18, 2008 at 10:21 am by Claudia

I got this Currier & Ives Lithograph at an auction a while back. There is water damage on the print, but I was so taken by the vivid colors that I had to have it. When I brought it home, I noticed the glass was falling out of the frame and the whole thing had been taped together. So I looked for a mat that would cover most of the water damage and cut it to fit the frame. Then I secured the glass and backing. Now most of the damage is covered, and I think the remaining stains contribute to the charm of the print. Its hanging above the window in our den.

Isn’t amazing that the colors remain so vivid when the lithograph is so old and damaged? I love it. Pardon the glare from the glass – I took these photos rather hurriedly this morning.

Have you seen the latest issue of Artful Blogging? When I was first considering starting a blog, I bought an issue and I found it so inspiring! There are so many creative bloggers out there. Reading their stories and looking at their work gave me the push that I needed. If you haven’t encountered this quarterly magazine, I urge you to go to your local bookstore, or Michael’s (where I finally found it) and buy an issue. You will be inspired and amazed.

    Hi Claudia,

That’s a beautiful old treasure. There is another similar one that I love too, about peace. I love old things, and it seems especially wonderful when old paper, fabric and lace have survived. I felt the same way when I found that old astronomy book from the 1700’s. What a story it cold tell!
I have all the issues of the magazine, and I’ve been enjoying seeing so many of my blog friends included in it,and in the Sommerset Life magazine too. I really like that one, and the new one they have out now, Where Women Create.

Thank you for the book recomendation. The book store didn’t have it the other night, so I will reserve it, but….a new shipment of The Guernsey Literary Club had just arrived! I’ve only just glanced through it, but I can tell, it’s a keeper!

    Hi Claudia,
What a nice old lithograph you have found! I love the old things best (maybe because I’m old! lol).

I don’t get out much so I had no idea there was a blogging magazine! I’m going to Michael’s after Christmas so I’ll check it out if they have a copy left. We actually just got a Michael’s in our area so we are really coming up in the world! :)

I also love your new look here at MHC. I know absolutely nothing about HTML so I just mostly leave well enough alone! I’ve learned a lot of things since I started my blog, mostly through trial and error.

Mr. Riley is so cute! Our dog, Tobi, hates to have her picture taken. She acts afraid of the camera and runs and hides if I try to take a picture!

Have a great weekend and thanks for coming by to see me!

    Hugs,
    Hope

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
