Number 7 in the Pottery Portraits series: Roseville White Rose.
I’m fairly pleased with it. When I finish a painting, Don always says “This is my new favorite!”
He’s adorable.
The rain continues, though most of the thunderstorms in the area spared us yesterday and for that I’m grateful. We might get one today, but so far, it’s drizzling off and on and it’s very gray out there. This will continue for this week and then it looks like next week might bring us several days with no rain…fingers crossed.
I admit it – I suffer from lack of sun and there has been very little sun for several days now. I’m more tired. My mood is not bad, but it’s definitely a bit dark. I obviously could never live where it’s cloudy and rainy most of the time. Anyway, this is no big deal in the larger picture of life, but I do have to force myself to stay upbeat. Plus, the constant rain plays havoc with my allergies, so I feel foggy.
Ironically, the garden is blooming like crazy so I’ve made a vow to get out there today and observe the flowers. I don’t want to miss them because of the weather. Bee balm, phlox, day lilies, balloon plants, hydrangeas, coneflowers everywhere, roses…it’s quite beautiful.
And mama robin patiently sits on her little eggs. I watch her a lot – every time I go into the kitchen (and sometimes from the bathroom as well) I check on her. So does Don. Yesterday, despite the fence that is now up, some of the chickens from next door got on our property – I think there were three of them on this side of the fence. I assume they entered from the place where the fence stops, but I’m really not sure as I didn’t see them come over. I just heard them and immediately knew they were too close. I let my neighbor know and in the meantime I went out there in my pajamas to try and herd them over to their property. Two of them flew over the fence, but one didn’t know what to do. In the meantime, the rooster was crowing, trying to get the chicken back on his side of the fence. He was clearly distressed. Eventually, my neighbors managed to herd her back. A few hours later, I noticed the fence had been extended. Hopefully, the chickens, who don’t like to get too close to the street, will no longer stray.
Anyway, I had to walk back and forth under the tree where mama is nesting and she didn’t like it. Just a chirp or two, but she let me know my presence was not wanted. We try to avoid that area as much as possible so she doesn’t have to worry, but sometimes it’s unavoidable, as it was later in the day when I had to go outside to clear lint off the dryer vent. You know, of course, that the minute there are live babies in that nest, those gentle warnings will be much sterner and some dive bombing will occur.

I wonder if, by now, you’ve heard who your new boss might be?
Fingers crossed, Kathy.
Stay safe.

I hope your rain ends soon. We just had a downpour this morning. I have been neglecting my flowers but I have managed to keep them watered.
I spend most days at my daughter’s house taking care of my granddaughter so they can work. They really need to work to pay the medical bills that are starting to come in. They have a large deductible, but at least they have insurance. We are waiting now for a neurology referral and hopefully some better management of her headaches. She’s very weak and will need physical therapy at some point too.
I think the new painting is very good. I hope you find the perfect place to hang the whole series.
Stay safe
Claudia says
Thank you, Marilyn!
Prayers for your granddaughter.
Stay safe.

Oh, I truly understand how the lack of sunshine can change one’s mood. I have always craved the sunshine and tell everyone it is my drug of choice.
Our Robin couple are on their 2nd batch as well. They made a nest in our Cedar tree which is right outside the garage service door. With the 1st batch they were much more protective. This time around I think we have gained a bit of trust. But, as you said, once those babies are hatched, they take up dive bombing once again. Good times I will remember fondly in the midst of winter.
I do so hope that the days ahead will bring you sunshine again, and just enough rain to keep watering to a minimum! We are being told we have chances for severe weather tomorrow into Thursday. That kind of rain we really do not need, but the weather doesn’t really take those things into consideration. “We get what we get and we don’t throw a fit.” Applicable to so many things, as we are beginning to teach the wee one. (At 15 months, she doesn’t quite believe that, and lots of times I don’t like it either.)
Claudia says
I don’t know if this is the same robin couple or another couple. But I guarantee we will be dive-bombed!
Yes, you want a steady rain, not an intense crazy thunderstorm, but we have had our fair share of those lately. More today, maybe.
Stay safe, Chris.

Well done, Mama Robin, holding on during the rain. I’m with you on gloomy days. One or two can be a break in the action but when it’s relentless it really brings me down. And it sounds as though your area has had more than its share. Of course then everything grows… Don’t you think we are all longing for a happy medium (all over the world)? I do. I don’t see it coming — we’ve done far too much to damage the planet. But long for it? Yes.
The painting is lovely and I’m glad you are finding joy in that on these rainy days.
Claudia says
A happy medium would be lovely. But, like you, I feel the damage is done. So sad.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

Oh…your latest painting is lovely.
I was hand watering yesterday when it was suddenly heavily misting. But, it’s so dry here, that I just kept watering. As Chris said…storms are supposedly coming. 3-5 inches of rain! But…it’s a wait and see as far as I’m concerned. This year they’ve been wrong many more times than they’ve been right.
We did manage to get a lot of work done in the yard these past two days. It was kind of nice, with cooler temps, cloudy skies and nice breezes. Pine trees were trimmed, ferns thinned out, flowers dead headed, weeds pulled, and mulch laid down. We are tired, but it’s the good kind of tired.
I crave sunny days, for my mental well being. I don’t think I could live where it’s too rainy. I need sunshine. I really do hope the rain stops for you, so you can get out and enjoy your flowers more! ;)
Claudia says
I so hope you get rain, Donna! More rain today but tomorrow should be dry. Cloudy, but dry.
Thanks!
Stay safe.

You always manage to get the background color spot on. Good eye.
I couldn’t live in the north again. I need the sun.
Claudia says
I need the sun, too, but I couldn’t live in the south – too humid!
Stay safe, Kay!

Oh so glad you are protective of mamma robin. We are plagued nearby with robin, blue jay and cardinals contracting a disease that is lethal. THey get swollen eyes and crusty eyes. WE have not had any reports here. BUt in Madison, just to the north, they have. We have been told to clean our feeders every 2 days or take them down altogether. Our little wren family is noisily growing and they will get protective if we get to close.
Claudia says
I am hearing more and more about this – in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and now in Wisconsin. I haven’t heard anything about it here but I’m going to go out and scrub my birdbath after I’m finished answering comments. I pray it doesn’t come here.
Stay safe, Kathy!

You are fairly pleased? Are you kidding me? That is amazing. So well done…So pretty
Claudia says
Well, you have to understand, I have worked on this for days and I see every little thing I didn’t get right!
Thanks, Sue!
